View Full Version : Unique Units for everyone when everything is researched?
Mackson Sep 17, 2005, 05:17 AM I think each civilization in this game should be given a unique unit for the latest era as well as one for the past eras. (2 unique units per civ). It is only fair that when you have reached the top of the technology tree you get something for yourself, despite your choice of civ. And something for the era when your civilization of choice did many historical events, ex the British Man-O-War for the past and SAS troopers (Marine Unique unit) for the present.
If there ain't going to be unique units for everyone when they have reached the top of the technology tree then what's the fun in playing anyway? What's so fun with having just 1 or 2 nations getting the superiority over all the other nations that no longer possess unique units that gives them tactical advantages?
Unique units for just some and not everyone, means unbalanced gameplay.
Mackson Sep 17, 2005, 05:34 AM Or they could just change the game so that nobody gets unique units for the latest era, just a second thought.
I am the Future Sep 17, 2005, 06:36 AM first that last little bit probably should have been eidited into you last post, but I will 4give it since you are a n00b(who says post counts arnt useful)
The reason UU's exist is to help along with the historical acuraccy of the game, So that in the early days Mediteranian People have the upperhand, then Europe then America. If Germany has a panzer for there UU it allows for a possible world war with a major power defeating every one else till the other major power America steps in with there modern UU. Another Example The romans couldnt expand without the Legions but once the legiaons became obsoleate they fell apart. One last example is that the rusians needed the Cossacks to expand and become a power. Thiswas the only time in history when they were a real nation. SO if their UU was in the AA then tehre would be no late rusian expansion would there.
Finally what Modern Unit could you give teh Aztecs? They dont exist anymore so they cant have a historicaly accurate UU. It is a good Idea but it is against he point of the UU's. And in the end you should be able to mod it in.
Quinzy Sep 17, 2005, 06:47 AM i completely agree. and anyways, i'm usualy waaaaay more technologicaly advanced then the AI anyways... but you could give them a gurilla unit ( or would that be more for the inca (peru) )...

This is where the "what if" argument comes in, what if the aztec still existed? The makers of Rise of Nations made a Jaguar Assault Infantry as a unique Assault Infantry unit for the aztecs which is faster and has more attack points for the latest era and I quote:
"Jaguar Infantry and Jaguar Assault Infantry are a "what if," as they represent Aztec troops as they might have been had that empire lasted into our time. They are named after a special class of Aztecs (those who had taken more than four prisoners in battle). In Rise of Nations, these units are fast-moving infantry that appear in the Modern and Information Ages, and are superior to any other foot unit in the game."
Sadly they made the same mistake of leaving some nations without unique units for the latest era as well. I thought games like this was about changing history, not repeating it. Should this be the case I might as well give up playing this series and read history books.
I also usually develop my way thru the tech tree so fast all the time, so it would be swell to have a unique unit which lasts and can still be useful even when I and everyone else have everything researched. You think?

give them a unit based on thier culture (in this case, soem sort of unit that is better at offence then defence), and specialized for desert, and plains terrian that you would find in Mexico (although hill for the mexican highlands is also an option) if enslave is an ability brought back to units, any aztec unit is qualified to have that ability, based on thier culture.
its not hard ot make a modern UU for ancient civlizations at all really.

Well Mexico City is Built over Teco-whatever so maybe we could use the modern Mexican unit (Non PC joke comming up!!!!!!)
the border jumper!!
sela1s1son Sep 23, 2005, 11:26 AM If we *were* to use a unit based off Mexico, instead of the Aztecs, couldn't we base one off the partisans in the hills? My memorry is very fuzzy, but isn't that one of the ways they better resisted the French in 1862, or is that a slightly later incedent?
Quinzy Sep 24, 2005, 06:25 PM or an Alamo rifleman unit mayby?? (sombrero, poncho, rifle)??
