Yesterday I started a game with Civ 1... :)

I had to relearn a few things, such as "home city", "upkeep"

What is your opinion here at CFC, are there elements of Civ 1 that could/should be carried over to Civ 4 (or the latest Civ), but were left out of Civ 3 (or the one before the latest)?

Yeah, civil war was excellent.

Another was civ-specific music, in diplomacy. Though I think I heard something about that actually being in Civ 4! Yay.

Random disasters? I like the idea, but hated it whenever it happened to me in Civ 1...

Who can forget the pirate attacks that urged you to build a barracks?

And civil war would be great to have again. I remember starting Civ 2, and beelining for the enemy capital to start a civil war and being very disappointed.

There were civil wars in civ2..at least I think there were...regardless, they should be back in!

there was..but i think the civ had to be larger then your own for it to end in civil war. anyway...i would love many of the features from them to comeback...my personal favorite...the at least somewhat custom space ship

Heh, I played the Canadian civil war scenario for Civ 2. Very dumb. 3 nations: Canada, Quebec, and USA. Quebec is smallest and wants to be free, and starts at war with Canada. USA is naturally the largest by far, but is neutral to both parties.

On the first turn, whichever Canadian you are commanding, your opposing Canadian sues for peace, AND THEN the US declares war on you instead. Holy crap that's retarded! it's supposed to be a scenario about Canadians fighting each other, the US is just supposed to sit back and keep you from using nukes or something.

So as Canada, I said, "Ok, you want to DoW me, fine." I sent a spy to an American city (Detroit, I think it was) and was thinking I'd steal some tech... then I get the option to plant a nuke... Hmmm... Yeah, I think that's a better idea. Goodbye, Detroit, nice knowing ya! I don't remember if this caused it or if it was something else I did, but the Americans broke apart in a civil war (the new nation was the Souix), and after that, it was fairly easy to conquer the whole map once enemy at a time.

I tried again as Quebec, and bam, same thing, the Canadians sue for peace, the Americans declare war. But Quebec doesn't have but half the resources of Canada, so I couldn't do a repeat; all I could do was get crushed quickly.

I'm sure this was a problem with the Civ2 engine, and not with the actual scenario, but surely the maker had this problem happen?
