I was lurking through the threads (as is my job here) and I was noticing how many of you are wearing Mistfit Avatars.. I thought I'd compile a gallery of K.I.S.S. player avatars here and offer my humble services to the rest of the team...

Not all of the following avatars were Mistfit Orginals (tm). Many of them were touch-ups or refittings. Let me know what you think and post a request if you want me to try one for you

Note some of the Larger Avatars are ones that I have done for the crew at CDZ. They have much looser requirements for Avatars there and it allows me some lattitude when creating them.

That is 9 of our teammates that I have done work for (including myself). By the end of the game do you think I could get everyone? Prolly not as some of the avatars people currently wear are really neat.

Can you name all of the people without looking? Amazing how our brain instantly recognizes someone by their picture... (don't reply with a list of whose they are...I think we all know)

You do great work, Mistfit! Yes, I can name each of the avatars at a glance, so I guess that's the sign of being truly distinctive.

I'm very fond of the "ornery kitty" in my avatar, but sometimes think he looks rather plain compared to others. Any ideas for enhancement? I dearly love cats.

No rush, Mistfit. I think I got it from a site that specialized in kitty pics. If I can find it again, I may just post the link for you. I'm not even sure if it's copyrighted, and I'd better double check that. Lots of sites will let you have a pic for small personal uses, but want credit for commercial use. Not sure if changes to it are considered infringement. I've been using it for a couple of years as simply a "smiley" on a social bulletin board I co-own.

I couldn't find the site with my kitty...I have many, many graphics sites bookmarked and some of them are huge. I'm pretty sure it's public domain, because it's relatively simple compared to so many other cat pics. Even if I could find it, I don't think it had a larger sample pic, as it was just one of hundreds, but happened to remind me of a certain kitty I know very well. ;)

If you can't work with it or don't feel comfortable doing so, that's cool, Mistfit. I like it because the facial expression looks soooo much like my black cat, Poco, with that look of, "Oh, yeah? Just try and make me do it!" :lol:

Harriet I have no problems using the graphix. I have never worried about copy rights. I steal freely :D I have had quite a bit on my plate recently and I'd really like to do a nice job on yours. I'll definitely get to it next week. I promise. I work with a gal that has a cat named Poco...

Hello Mr Mistfit, as you have noticed and remarked, my avatar is at best funny, but pretty low-caliber. I've kept a habit of putting up bear avatars, since my screen name is one of a man-bear, so if you could fit a bear with a more convincingly violent glance in 70x70, I'd appreciate it. Plus, it would be less painful for yourself when I post stuff ;)

My company uses security software that won't allow any chat programs, internet music or access to certain banned sites (like CFC). I'm surprised they allow any internet access at all, but I am able to access my hotmail email account. :rolleyes:

But, I think "Civ" letter are a littler underemphasised. Can you make them bigger, brighter, shaded, or whatever to make them look stronger?

Also, can you get rid of the two orange things in the top-right corner, because you can't read them anyway. I can do it myself, but if you already have the file, it'll be easier for you.

The orginal one I used letters from the word Pentium to make up the word Civ so blame Intel :D

@ Mistfit - In the Site Feedback thread it was suggested that it might help speed up the board to turn off our avatars until the number of simultaneous posters from the Civ 4 release quiets down. I've turned mine off, but only temporarily. I see that Own has done the same.

I'll be glad when things go back to normal, because I love my avatar. :cry:

Actually I did nothing to this one. I just was wondering if Own liked it better with the black background or the transparency.

You make a transparent avatar by saving the file as a .gif. Most programs allow you to choose what color you want to make transparent when saving it.
I typically choose the really bright and gaudy pink color because I rarely use it for anything else and I can see that color pretty well.

Basically by saving it that way it tells the computer that on that image where ever it see's that color to let the background show thru.

It's actually a longer story. There are a lot of nights when I can't sleep, and then I think. I think about many things, but some of them are very, shall I say, unusual. For exaple, I though of waffles that I ate in Germany, and then I got a train of thought leading to LuftWaffel.

I though it's a great funny word, but when I showed it to my friends then didn't find it funny. I was sad and depressed, but then I decided to make it funny. And, thou shalt behold the result :)

Tubs, yours is very nice, but if I didn't already know what (who) it was supposed to represent, I couldn't make it out. Mistfit's is immediately recognizable. The size limitations make it difficult to use anything complex.

I have a favorite pic of one of my own cats that I'd love to use, but it wouldn't work in a small resolution.

I really liked this one because of the top scroll on it.
The color needs to be more golden, like the middle one.
The tree inside the triangles can be removed or covered up.
In the middle circle could either be the star of Texas or the outline of the state. I think the star would be easier. (Gee, a five pointed star on a six pointed badge. Idiotic.)
And as always, the words need to be changed; 'Ranger' to 'Idiot' and 'Division of Forestry' to 'Republic of Texas'.

No, I'm in Arlington, stuck between Dallas and Fort Worth.

And to further prove my idiotness: I work in Dallas but drive to Fort Worth to catch the commuter train to go to work. (Well, it's not that idiotic. Driving to work is a 60 mile round trip; taking the train is only 25 miles. But it doubles the commute time.)

The Lone Star flag background is a nice touch.

Sadly, the text does not look good.

But the state in the middle is quite clear and really removes the need for 'Republic of Texas', which cannot be easily read.

So let's remove the 'Republic of Texas' and try to find a way to make 'Idiot' more prominent.

My first thoughts are to move the state upwards and to move the Idiot scroll down under the state and then stretch the scolling to make it readable.

Second thought is to move both the state and scroll down and then stretch the scroll.

What do you think?

Well I decided the issue was that there was jut too much going on with the badge you supplied. I drew one myself in an attempt to clean it up a bit. It is not as fancy as the other one but I think it is much clearer and I personally like it. Let me know what you think.

Ahhh, memories of the church sound booth. In retrospect my days as a church 'sound guy' were my first experiences with KISS-type Idiocy. Personally, I think the average church sound booth has an Idiot/Grumpy quotient that would eclispe even our little forum.

Aw, thanks, Mistfit. You did a great job on cropping, but it makes him look purely mean without the contrast of the silly posture. He's the most affectionate cat I've ever had, but stubborn and mischievious. I think my current avie captures his essence best...maybe I'm just too close to him to be objective. The redraw cleans him up, but changes his look as well, so I'll stick to the old one. Thank you for your efforts. :)
