No I think he left civ for good! because hes last visit in civfanatics was in 2005 :(

Sep 13, 2006, 07:16 PM
Eh, what's the use moping about in another artist's creation thread?

Sep 20, 2006, 11:59 AM
Orthanc good luck in college, return soon.

Sep 20, 2006, 12:32 PM
Yeah! very very soon! ;)

Sep 20, 2006, 02:24 PM
Oh, you've started college, too! Well, like's been said, "Good luck!"

Sep 27, 2006, 10:49 AM
Hey Orthanc have you had any time to work on that Moblin?

Sep 27, 2006, 10:51 AM
Not yet, but I might this weekend.

Sep 27, 2006, 10:54 AM
Well take care and good luck with your studies man. You come first.

Sep 30, 2006, 09:06 PM

I'll see how much time I can put into this tomorrow:D>

Oct 01, 2006, 04:03 AM
Niiice! I see a future in the 40K mod for you, Orthanc

Oct 01, 2006, 04:39 AM
1# What the heck is that?!

2# I like your hands - can I have them? (they look better than the ones I've made up :) )

Oct 01, 2006, 07:59 AM
 It's the Windwaker version of the Moblin...

Sure you can have them, and thanks! You'll probably be surprised how simple they are.

There's 3 different types of hands I made, HandOR/HandOL (Open), HandCR/HandCL (Closed/Fist) and HandGR/HandLR ("Grab", like when grabbing a ledge, you'll see).

Oct 01, 2006, 10:45 AM
Hehe, "I like your hands." That sounded kinda funny the first time I read that. Yay! A moblin! I've been wanting one forever. Now, if Chris ever sends me the biq back, we might actually have a scenario, ;).

Oct 01, 2006, 03:44 PM

Suffice to say, he doesn't have a head yet, cause I haven't the foggiest idea how to make it in POV Ray. I'll prove it can mimic 3DS Max yet!:crazyeye:

Oct 01, 2006, 03:57 PM
Niiiice! The li`l legs make him less useable for a "realistic" fantasy mod, but Zelda will rule with this baby! :goodjob:

Oct 01, 2006, 09:04 PM
Niiiice! The li`l legs make him less useable for a "realistic" fantasy mod, but Zelda will rule with this baby! :goodjob:

 Not too mention he's going to have permanent lock-jaw:

The head's still not done (currently he's 'hockey-player' Moblin:hammer2:), but that was the hard part. As mentioned above, I can't fathom a way to make this jaw flop about like it does in Windwaker, but at least I can still model it!:D

Oct 02, 2006, 05:48 AM
It looks fantastic, Orthanc. As Stormy said, these units will definitely make the Zelda mod great.:goodjob:

Oct 02, 2006, 04:50 PM
Lookin good,. How about making him drool during the fidget or something?

Oct 02, 2006, 04:56 PM
Well actually they have this thing where they sniff the ground, trying to catch Link's scent, so I was thinking of using that for Fidget.

Just going to start the helmet:

Oct 02, 2006, 04:57 PM
Hehe, just like the game, :D.

Oct 02, 2006, 04:58 PM
maybe the default can have a bit of drool sort of going up and down a bit in time with his breathing?

Oct 02, 2006, 05:12 PM
Wow! Thats precise! Nice job, Orthanc!

Oct 02, 2006, 07:19 PM
Maybe Quinzy, I'll definately consider that. Wouldn't be too hard, just a partially transparent, white (with a hint of blue) sphere sweep would do it (there's another fun detail suggestion for you to aaglo!:D )

Meanwhile, while I'm working on the spear, which part/s do you think should be civ-colored? The fabric around the spear is definately going to be, but other possibilities along with that are:
-Armour (arm plates and helmet, but not the gold rims)
-Gold Necklace bits

Oct 03, 2006, 03:21 AM
I`d go with the armour :)

I wonder what they sound like..

Oct 03, 2006, 03:28 AM
:goodjob: Orthanc, but where is the tail!?

Oct 03, 2006, 09:25 AM

You can grab movies of someone going through all of Windwaker here:

To get one with Moblins (lots of em), try part 11.

Alrighty, I'll get to turning that armour red, then it's animating time! (right after I buy some groceries, so, hungry...)

Oct 03, 2006, 10:41 AM
Cute tail! :goodjob:

Oct 03, 2006, 02:08 PM
 Yeah, it's REAL effective at balancing that ginourmous head and upper torso.

Anywho, the lantern these guys sometimes hold is going to be in the civilopedia pics (which I'll withold until the final release;) ), but should it also be in the animations?

Oct 03, 2006, 02:16 PM
attach it to his waist.

Oct 03, 2006, 02:23 PM
Perfect, hadn't thought of that, thanks!

Oct 03, 2006, 02:29 PM
:) no problem

Oct 03, 2006, 02:42 PM
Me! thinks it should be in the animations, and in the victory animation hes tail should move like with the dog!

Oct 03, 2006, 03:40 PM
Thanks Orthanc, but no way I`m DL-ing a 60MB movie to hear them! I`ll just DL your unit! :)

Oct 03, 2006, 04:16 PM
Yay! This is great, :D.

Oct 04, 2006, 11:48 AM
Wow, that model looks very professional. Great work!

Oct 04, 2006, 12:43 PM
That thing is creepy looking. And waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too happy.

Oct 18, 2006, 09:16 PM
Sorry guys, this isn't an update on the Moblin, I wish it was, but I'm still busier than is morally sound. What it is is a look at a potential future project, I just scored this image, hopefully you'll recognize it:
I know, I'm nutz:crazyeye:

Holy Barnacles Batman! It's the Flying Dutchman!!

Oct 19, 2006, 10:01 AM
Very interesting! Will it move undersea?

Oct 19, 2006, 01:22 PM
Oh! Looks like a good pre-placed Barbarian unit for one of my scenarios.
A/D/M: High/High/Fast :p
Invisible, good lethal sea bombardment.

And maybe a couple of other little... surprises...

Oct 19, 2006, 04:36 PM
Im more interested in the unit which will follow the Skorl/ Moblin ;)

Oct 20, 2006, 04:47 PM
The Flying Dutchman! I could totally use it!

Oct 30, 2006, 12:09 PM
bumpa bump

Oct 30, 2006, 02:55 PM
I know, I wanted to finish the Moblin, but I'm still very busy, hang in there!

Oct 30, 2006, 03:47 PM
No, you hang in there buddy :) ()

I just notice arsenal gear on the list? :)

Tell me, did you play Front Mission 3? That Mobile Fortress thingy would make a kewl unit, eh? ;)

Nov 27, 2006, 03:10 PM
Bump bump bump

Nov 27, 2006, 03:27 PM
Thanks, yeah I think we're going to have to wait till Christams break starts (which is the 15th for me, woot) before I can really get back into my POV Ray factory. I need to go buy food now...

Nov 27, 2006, 04:54 PM
2 weeks, eh? K :)

Nov 28, 2006, 01:21 AM
Jeesh, Swoggy, leave the poor man alone.

Dec 05, 2006, 08:49 PM
Eager to see new naval units I am...

Dec 05, 2006, 08:54 PM
Orthanc said that he won't have time until his Christmas break starts so you're just going to have to wait a little longer. ;)

Dec 21, 2006, 05:39 PM
Yo! Alright, here's the deal, the Moblin's done, except that I STILL can't find any authentic sounds for it. I think I might release this one without sounds, since I really want to finally get on with the rest of the list (especially since there's nothing else that needs such specific sounds).

So unless someone can grab the collection of sound effects from Zelda Windwaker (thus, person responsible would pwn Santa ), I'll be bringing out the Moblin (finally) tomorrow.

To sum it up, I'm back!

Dec 21, 2006, 05:51 PM
WOOOHOOOO! finally!

Welcome back man!

Dec 21, 2006, 06:02 PM
I smell new ships a coming! Happy days are here again!

Dec 22, 2006, 01:03 PM
Alrighty, Moblin's ( up!

Which just happens to be your request Sword Of Geddon, from JULY:sad:. You wanted a cross between my Cipactli and aaglo's Mayan ships, so first question, what are we gonna name this thing?

Dec 22, 2006, 01:41 PM
Wait... Wasnt the Averov next in line? :/

edit: nevermind, i checked the list ;)

Dec 22, 2006, 02:46 PM
Alrighty, Moblin's ( up!

Something that means Mesoamerican Frigate or something along those lines.

Dec 22, 2006, 04:08 PM
How about Mextli? According to Wikipedia (so don't quote me on this) he's the god of war and storms, also the source of the name Mexico. Appropriate for a meso-american warship eh?

Varwnos, I have the images of the Averov to work off of, but I can't find the post where it was requested. Apparently this meso-american ship (July 10) and the Solaris (July 25) got in first...

Spacer One
Dec 22, 2006, 09:13 PM
If your going Ship building again, and doing MesoAmerican ships...Id like to request a currah replacement, and a MesoAmerican ship that could stand up with the Trident and/or Boade (asian Ship)

Dec 22, 2006, 09:20 PM
As in a meso-american curragh and Trident? Sounds fun, but I will have to just add them to the list for the moment. Might be a tad of a wait for them, but I'm hoping to speed through a few of the items at the top right now.

Oh, it's not much, but might as well show proof that the yards are open once more:

Dec 22, 2006, 11:43 PM
looks like a good start i can wait to see this one

Dec 23, 2006, 09:21 AM
Looking good so works methinks

Dec 23, 2006, 10:00 AM
Alrighty, here's a shot of the stern so far, I'm definately forsaking nautical plausibility on this one!

Dec 23, 2006, 10:10 AM
O man your good! :goodjob:

Dec 23, 2006, 11:00 AM
Remember cross between your ship and Aaglo's Mayan Quezalcotyl Ship is key.

Dec 23, 2006, 11:51 AM
Yep, I'm planning on throwing on some 'aaglo-esque' feathers here and there (you'll see where, hopefully later today), and I have some neat plans for the bow:evil:

Dec 23, 2006, 12:08 PM
Alright! I could use this beauty for my mod.

Dec 23, 2006, 03:35 PM
Looks great! I love it so far :)

Dec 23, 2006, 03:41 PM
Oh.. I get how this is supposed to work. Real sneaky. See, most people expect ships to float, but this one won't beable too so it'll catch 'em unawares!

Dec 23, 2006, 03:53 PM
Hopeing for some cool masthead to done this fine ship, I bet Orthanc has such in mind.

Dec 23, 2006, 05:39 PM
:mischief: Yep! But before the mastead, I have this stern design to finish up (it just needs it's 'nose' which is actually the rudder, which will basically be a wing):

In the water, the face will be suberged up to a little bit below the eyes, the plan is to show this part of during the death animation:D

Dec 23, 2006, 11:40 PM

Dec 23, 2006, 11:46 PM
Somehow, I think you're just gonna love what I've put up on the bow Goldflash:
Yeah, those are cannons in it's eyes and mouth:mischief:

Dec 24, 2006, 06:03 AM
O man this unit will be awesome!!!

Dec 24, 2006, 07:03 AM
I like it already...:)

Dec 24, 2006, 07:44 AM
Oh my, thats very imaginative.. In other words, OMG!, OMG!, its soo kewl! :D

Dec 24, 2006, 08:41 AM

Dec 24, 2006, 12:22 PM
wow...looks great...

where is the civ color?...I think it would look cool on the feathers...where its green now...

Dec 24, 2006, 12:29 PM
While I'm modelling, Civ-color is ALWAYS red, because the first thing I make once modelling's done is the civilopedia entries, which use civcolor red. Currently, the eyes of the skull and the face at the back are civ-colored, as well as the design wrapped around the hull, and the center of the small yellow feathers are also red. Once the sails are up, the design on them will be civ-colored as always.

Dec 24, 2006, 08:04 PM
I'm pretty sure this should win ana ward for the most nautically unsound ship ever.

Dec 25, 2006, 05:09 AM
I've got to agree with Goldflash there. Unless it's all polystyrene painted to look like stone, of course. But that's one of the most imaginative unit designs I've ever seen.

Dec 25, 2006, 05:19 AM
What if the temple was made of wood?

Dec 25, 2006, 11:14 AM
Its really the figurehead and the.. stern. There have been ships with big marble temples on their decks before. One of them Roman emperors had one. Of course, that one stayed on a lake, I think.

Blue Monkey
Dec 25, 2006, 05:03 PM
Actually there are various stones (of the porous lava variety) that do float on water if they're not too big. The samples i have seen were dark red in color. An imaginatively inclined MesoAm civ might very well decide that the psyops value of a stone war god attacking enemy navies would be worth putting stone facia on a balsa core or some such.

Dec 25, 2006, 05:26 PM
Don't forget that ancient Egyptians used barges to transport giant chunks of limestone and granite up and down the Nile. :)

Hikaro Takayama
Dec 25, 2006, 06:35 PM
Or the temples could be made of white pumice, a volcanic rock that, due to many air pockets actually floats. There are two varieties of pumice; a black and a white one. I have a small piece of black pumice in my rock collection (which I've floated to verify that there was, indeed, such a thing as a rock that floats), but I've seen white pumice in various places....

Or, as Blue Monkey suggested, the temples could be stone-cased wood (much like many modern "stone" houses).

Dec 25, 2006, 08:03 PM
...or it could be made out of witches...

Dec 25, 2006, 10:36 PM
 Yeah, I thought of the pumice thing too, it would make this thing bob like a cork with that much at the back. I actually have a tiny bit of white pumice somewhere around here, beginnings of the first real Mextlii? I think so.

Merry Christmas!

Jan 02, 2007, 10:46 PM
Mextli is done! Board here. (

Now onto that Solaris (yet another fictional Meso-American ship:lol: But now form the FUTURE), I'm hoping I can time manage to get that done while working on my portfolio before the holiday ends. I'm back at college by Monday, but depending on how fast the courses start up again, I might squeeze a little unit making time in there:religion:.

Jan 03, 2007, 08:13 AM
is it gonna be a space ship or a futuristic boat?...

good luck with school...

Jan 03, 2007, 09:53 AM
The Solaris has a sailed mode so that makes it very very versatile as a unit. BTW Othanc thankyou for making the Mesoamerican Frigate! I appreciate it!

Apr 25, 2007, 05:17 PM

So we've got a good amount of Solaris progress. Might be a stretch, but I'm aiming to finish up the model tonight. I'll be doing the solar-sail version first, then do the normal sail version.

And POV Ray is like riding a bike, once learned, you never forget. Though, having never rode a bike myself ( ) I should probably find a different reference...

Apr 25, 2007, 06:01 PM
OH YEAH! So, did you learn any new skills at animator school?

Apr 25, 2007, 06:14 PM
Actually it was just an art fundamentals course they put me in, and I'll be taking the second year of that in September. Still trying to get into the actual animation program (they didn't let me in again this year), but still, the course I've been in was very good. Probably won't change too much of what I'm doing with units, but I can draw and paint a boat-load better.

Anywho, modelling is surprisingly close to being done: (

Apr 25, 2007, 07:01 PM
Probably won't change too much of what I'm doing with units, but I can draw and paint a boat-load better.

Nice pun, ;)

Apr 25, 2007, 11:28 PM
Yeah, I say boat alot for totally related reasons. Cause, in case you never noticed, I like boats...

Anywho, solar-model is done, even set up so that the big panels can fold in, should make for a neat fidget animation. And now, despite not being allowed into an actual animating course, I shall animate none the less. *maniacal laughter*

Oh, I switched from a light blue hull to a light grey hull. One reference picture I have has it blue, the other white. I figured the blue was from the light off the water. Also the blue made it look a little too much like a toy.... (

Apr 26, 2007, 09:10 AM
I'm anxious to see what kind of attacks you give this ship, may I request one with cannons? I might use the sail variation for a Incan Galleass.

Apr 26, 2007, 09:19 AM
Yeah I was thinking about that too, I'll definately have a cannon attack, then optional arrow, and maybe some sort of 'solar laser' attack.

Apr 26, 2007, 10:10 AM
That looks beautiful.
Hope you'll do a few ancient ships, there are very few of the ancient era available.

Apr 26, 2007, 01:32 PM
That looks beautiful.
Hope you'll do a few ancient ships, there are very few of the ancient era available.
I second that, though without solar sails hopefully. ;) That model looks very nicely streamlined. Very pleasing.

Apr 26, 2007, 05:39 PM
Oooh, the sails could collect the death rays of death from outer space and then the boat shoots them from the.. the thingies, the sticks you put in teh water... oars?

Or maybe not :crazyeye:

Apr 26, 2007, 11:49 PM
Yeah I was thinking about that too, I'll definately have a cannon attack, then optional arrow, and maybe some sort of 'solar laser' attack.

Solar laser attack...:hmm: :mischief:

Apr 26, 2007, 11:58 PM
I agree with the canons idea. They were not on the original "concept", but this ship is begging for canons on its sides!

Thanks for doing this boat. In the cartoon were this boat appears, it was made by the lost civilisation of Mu or something like that

Apr 27, 2007, 09:53 AM
Solar laser attack...:hmm: :mischief:

Yep! That's about exactly what I had in mind.

Animating should be done sometime today!

Apr 29, 2007, 11:49 AM
Alright, the solar-sailed version is complete! Find her here: Solaris Thread (

Normal sailed version should be out fairly soon.

Apr 29, 2007, 02:37 PM
Thanks Orthanc! :D

Apr 29, 2007, 02:44 PM
Hey, nice to see you back at the docks. Will there be some more realistic ships as well?

Apr 30, 2007, 09:19 PM
Yep! In fact a VERY realistic ship is going into the yard now! The Averof (emphasis on the 'f', cause the original requester spelled it instead with a 'v'. Right or wrong, Wikipedia and other search engines spelled it 'f', and fixing that let me find all my reference pics. Meh)

It's a good ol' fashioned Dreadnaught-era vessel. Always wanted to put one of those together, should be fun! Here's a reference pic I found: (

Apr 30, 2007, 09:52 PM

How time is accompanied here by groups of insects.

Indeed i had requested that months ago ;)

May 01, 2007, 09:01 AM
Ack! So it is you delaying the Rex! :p Fortunately, O. can slap boat-thingies together in a few hours :)

May 01, 2007, 05:29 PM
Yeah, sorry Stormy, I am looking forward to Rex though!

Anywho, Averof is in the drydock, main hull is essentially done: (

May 01, 2007, 07:14 PM
what happened to the sailed solaris?

May 01, 2007, 07:15 PM
Check out the regular Solaris thread.;)

May 02, 2007, 08:36 AM
Ooo, nice looking hull Orthanc!

Unfortunately I don't really play Civ 3 ,but I was inspired by you and started making different ships for Civ 4. ;)

Love your stuff btw! Wow!

May 02, 2007, 09:02 AM
Orthanc, when you finish this ship will you get to the next in the line or are you getting back on college?

May 02, 2007, 09:35 AM
Thanks GeneralMatt, I was thinking about making Civ4 units myself, decided to stick with Civ3. Isn't a chance of using POV-Ray for Civ4:(

To Partizanac (and everyone else) I'm not just on break, classes are done. I start my next year of college September 4th I believe. That be a long time away yar. Now I am hoping to get a job this summer, but jobs don't have homework:D

Progress: (

I've noticed this thing's propeller shafts are surprisingly exposed...

May 02, 2007, 04:02 PM
Shaft! He`s a complicated man, that no one understands.. but his woomaaaann.. Shaft!

May 02, 2007, 08:25 PM
Thanks for the musical moment there Stormrage.:crazyeye:

Anywho, just got the main mast (which for this ship is really just the aft mast, and, a crane seems to be it's only use...) to put up, and animating can commence. Which will be fairly simple for this ship, lacking doom weapons of any sort. Progress: (

May 03, 2007, 01:27 AM
It looks so beautiful :)

May 03, 2007, 04:31 AM
She`s pretty :) (aft! its a complicated thing, that no one understands, but its maaaaast.. aft! :crazyeye:)

May 03, 2007, 01:27 PM
:D Thanks! Model's done, Part way through the animations, which will definately be finished soon, seeing as this thing rendering much faster than I thought it would (17 seconds to make 12 150x150 pixel frames, always fun!)

This is what the finished model looks like, but this isn't the same angle as the civilopedia picture:mischief: (

May 03, 2007, 01:39 PM
civilopedia icons while firing are nice! ;)

May 03, 2007, 10:09 PM
She's done! Currently docked here: Averof Cruiser (

Onto Metal Gear Rex, AT LAST. Yeah, I've wanted to make this unit for a long time too. Not sure how long it'll take, but given the geometric, POV-Ray friendlyshape (and dozens of reference pics I have) shouldn't be too bad, nothing like the organic craziness of Ragnarok or Metal Gear Ray:crazyeye: .

May 04, 2007, 03:13 AM

Da King of Metal Gears is on teh way! w00t!

May 05, 2007, 06:38 AM
Finaly REX!!!! Ive been waiting for him for so so so so so so so so so long.
I have few requests for you I hope youll accept them:

Don't request things that will take months for Orthanc to complete....

May 05, 2007, 11:19 AM
Yeah sorry HunterAnubis, reason you (and everyone else) has had to wait so long for Rex is because it's taken this long to get through other requests. I already have a very long to-do list after Rex, and plenty of things I want to do after I'm done all that.

Matter of fact yesterday I was thinking I should hold off taking requests until I get through the current list, or rather IF I get through the current list. I will eventually, the real question is if I can get through it before school starts up again in September, cause if I don't, the requests remaining may have a very long time to wait.

For those not looking in my signature for the list, here's the current to-do list I have:

In Progress:
-Metal Gear Rex

To Do:
-Ship of the Line
-Asian Dragon
-Meso-Amercian 'Trident'
-Meso-Amercian 'Curragh'
-The Flying Dutchman
-Arsenal Gear
-Meso-Amercian 'Trireme'
-Meso-Amercian 'Galleass'

May 05, 2007, 12:30 PM
Sorry to bother you then but I thought this was a thread for requests so I just done what it was created for and please hurry it up I want arsenal as soon as posible Im looking forward to as to the rex
one more thing keep up the good work.
hopefully youll get to my list someday and skip the freeman it was just an idea coz I didnt know what else to request

May 05, 2007, 07:07 PM
It is, thanks for requesting here, and I will keep your list in mind (thanks for reducing it a little at least). If I do get to it, try and have some references pictures (preferably lots) for me to work on.

May 06, 2007, 01:56 AM
How is the rex coming?
Ill start colecting picteres as soon as I can. Since you done ff units I gess you dont need garden pictures or do you want even those?

May 06, 2007, 04:51 AM
here are vids to see then in action garden explosion vs jehuty and anubis

I have the pictures of balamb and galbadia in case you would like those to.
Please tell me if you decide to do any of them

May 06, 2007, 08:58 AM
Actually I especially need Garden reference pics. I don't have a single one. Thanks for the videos, but still photos are still preferred, especially since I don't know how to save the videos from YouTube to my computer:scan:

May 06, 2007, 09:30 AM
Saving YouTube stuff?

I`ll fetch you a link to a thread that explains that, when I digg it out :)

May 06, 2007, 10:38 AM
Im not sure how to upload pictures here so it would be better if you gave me your email so I could send those pictures to you

(not sure if this will work)

May 06, 2007, 10:44 AM
you can always use hypercam 2 to save video and everything on your screen or use MWsnap to cature whats on your screen

if you need more pictures Ill try to get you some

May 09, 2007, 06:05 PM
Send me more Garden pics via PM if you can find anymore, if you can';t I'll try to work with these (when I get there).

Meanwhile, Rex has begun! *ROOAAR!!!* Ahem, well there isn't too much done yet, but I have the waist, joints between the waist and the legs, and almost done the kinda awkwardly-located laser. So here's the 1st WIP preview, and a little something related I found on deviant art while looking for more reference pics (I should draw a Coca-Cola version to compete). ( (

May 09, 2007, 11:32 PM
can you show me a pic of the thing you are making? Whatever it is, it's looking good :) (nice prism :) )

May 10, 2007, 11:09 AM
Here's a real model someone made of it, it's called Metal Gear Rex. You can't really see in these pics the parts I've built already: (

Yeah the blocks are just boxes with a boat-load of other boxes subtracted.

May 10, 2007, 11:54 AM
 The pepsi one is great! :D

And yours is coming up great too! w00t!

May 10, 2007, 01:00 PM
sure but whats pm?
Oh man if my PS2 wasnt broken I would record you 3D model and send it to you by mail

May 10, 2007, 01:08 PM
PM = Personal message. Top right corner of the site :)

May 11, 2007, 08:36 PM (

"Whose footprints are these?"

Yeah, so a new Orthanc unit is out! A PAIR OF LEGS!

*Ahem* Anywho, so got most of the legs done. They still need the real feet, the retractable heels, some flap thingies, and of course, you know, a TORSO. :D I've also cooked up a new set of camo textures for this unit, and with an inane amount of moving parts (there's 13 already at this stage), this is definately looking to be quite a unique unit for Mr. Boat Man over here.

May 11, 2007, 08:38 PM
I never thought I'd say this about a pair of robot legs, but those look pretty badass.

May 12, 2007, 05:44 AM
Woo! Kicks ass!

Odin - its actually a vehicle - walker* :)

*no, not the texas ranger :crazyeye:

May 12, 2007, 06:56 AM
hmmm what is that REX missing.......I know I know pair of bots!!! I knew I would figure it out :D

great work so far

May 12, 2007, 10:19 AM
Woo! Kicks ass!

Odin - its actually a vehicle - walker* :)

*no, not the texas ranger :crazyeye:

Snake: The new Metal Gear.

Colonel Cambell: Yes, it's Metal Gear... NORRIS!

Colonel Cambell: Yes, a pair of massive, armored legs. It doesn't need nukes, it just roundhouse kicks its target for the same effect...

May 12, 2007, 11:01 AM

May 13, 2007, 05:14 AM
I can say only one thing at this moment

Otacon: Snake? Snake? Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake

May 13, 2007, 11:47 PM (

Legs are all done, still working on the head, but got enough of the basic shape down for an update to be warranted. Jaw/Cockpit, 'engines' at the back, Radar-thingy and Ginourmous-Uber-Rail-Gun still left to do.

What's interesting is they expect a mostly male military population to be able to control a walking robot, that's essentially wearing high heels. Thank goodness those are retractable...:crazyeye:

May 14, 2007, 03:14 AM
Yeah, but the has a huge dangling.. laser between its legs...

Metal Gear Transvestite! :crazyeye:

May 14, 2007, 05:39 AM
those hight heels are tehre becose rex is capable o fireing a nuke and if they werent there he wouldnt be stable so he could fall down and fire it on the ground blowing him self to ...... :D

May 14, 2007, 08:09 AM
almost done the kinda awkwardly-located laser.

Yes Stormrage, this I have noticed about Rex.:shifty: I'm thinking it was intentional on the designer's part, crazy video game people.:shifty:

And yes HunterAnubis, I'm aware of the purpose of the heels. What I actually find impressive is that Rex can walk, or even stand at all without them.

May 14, 2007, 08:16 AM
Arent the heel thingies there all the time?

May 14, 2007, 09:19 AM
I not sure its been a long time since I played it like 5-6 years and the camera angle wasnt good if I only had my PS 2 in working condition I would look on the 3D model with whith you can turn around spin do anything you like

Oh and REX is not a fast walker kidna slow motion hes like one legger man against pro runner in a race for 1500 m so you can imagine his so called fast walk lol

May 14, 2007, 09:32 AM
I think the one that Snake fought was not fully operational.. and they were fighting in a (for Rex) small hangar.. I think he could achieve 90 km/h like a T-rex would ;)

May 14, 2007, 09:39 AM
wow check this out they made a remake of MGS 1 but not for Pc and they change the scene before you fight REX or Im so dum and dont remember it anyway this uncovers the heel thing hes not using them normaly or Im blind

May 14, 2007, 09:53 AM
I don`t remember the part where Snake takes the sword, and I`m not sure there was so much Matrix stuff going on with GreyFox, but anyway, yeah, REX has no heels at that time...

Orthanc- scrap the laser strap-on if you can`t make anything with it that doesn`t look outrageous or hillarious ;)

May 14, 2007, 09:57 AM
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes 001
searh that on youtube and change number on the part you wish to see its realy a remake!!!! some new in vids and better quality Im on part 4 from xxx parts
no game play just vids and comunications I want to recal the story

May 14, 2007, 01:28 PM
Nah the laser's gotta stay. I watched those movies before (plus I remember from when I fought it myself), they'll sure be handy in figuring out the animations. Anyways, in both the old Metal Gear Solid, and the remake for Gamecube, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, the laser cuts off GreyFox's arm which, understandably, seals his fate. I think other fans might be peeved with it's absence in the attack animations.

The sword was added in for the remake, as was the 'bullet-time' stuff, you can find the original version of the battle on youtube to compare directly.

I remember finding a site once with loads of technical details on all the Metal Gears (up to Ray and Arsenal, MGS3 wasn't out yet). Wish I could find it again.

May 14, 2007, 03:05 PM
Ive seen whole story and I can say that the remake is more blody then original and more matrix like
I hate that tho coz snake is more like an acrobat now on the other side story has been improved

May 19, 2007, 02:54 PM
So hows it comming I its been few days and I cant wait to get my hands on Rex.

by the way how do I upload my own avatar?:mischief:

May 19, 2007, 03:00 PM
Yeah I just moved so twas a little pre-occupied, but everything's back up and running again. I'm working on the jaw, just the back, the Rail gun and Radome after that! (

For your avatar, look at the top left of the website for a link that says "My Account". Then look for "Edit Avatar", at the bottom of that are options for uploading an avatar off the web or right off your computer.

May 19, 2007, 04:45 PM
you might laugh but I didnt find it I might need a screenshot to find it or better glases lol.

IM realy looking forward to seeing it in action coz I cant stop using Ray. So I gess it will be the same thing with Rex but I dont know where to place him in tech tree. its kidna hard when its already full of units

May 20, 2007, 05:02 AM
Heels or no heels?
I ges hes using them only when standing styll or when fireing nuke but I have no idea how nuke lounch looks like. So i sugest using him as transport for 5 nukes as was said in one of the vids

May 20, 2007, 05:11 AM

sorry for putting on so many posts but I think I ran into the site you talked about.
since there are few metal gears maybe you could do them

Ill be looking for more metal gear pics some more detailed

May 20, 2007, 09:22 AM
Well I've also got Metal Gear Arsenal in the to-do list (the least Metal-Gear-ish Metal Gear of them all).

Yeah they never showed what the nuke launch looks like. But what we do know is that it's fired from the rail gun, and in Metal Gear Solid 2 we see EXTENSIVE (uber) rail gun usage, MUCH smaller scale, and minus the nuclear rounds, but same concept.

From all the movies of this thing in action, it only had the heels down at the very start. It pulled them up and they stayed retracted (even when just standing around) for the entire battle. So my plan is, keep the heels up for every animation except they go down in the Fortify, staying down for Attack A, which will be the rail gun firing, and maybe they'll drop during the death as well.

And no, wikipedia isn't the site I was looking for, though I have been using it. The site I'm thinking of still had much more information for each Metal Gear.

May 20, 2007, 10:16 AM
Snake has to go one on one against these things in these games? Poor guy!

May 20, 2007, 11:53 AM
Snake has to go one on one against these things in these games? Poor guy!

actualy snake is not the poor guy as far as I know raiden went against most of metal gears ( more then 10 on top of arsenal gear) so I gess raiden is the poor guyon the other side Snake (and big boss - they look same to me) went up against varius metal gears.
I dont know how it is in new mgs but I think I saw raiden in trailer
I bet tehyer having metal gear nightmares :crazyeye: :crazyeye: :crazyeye:

if this isnt the site Ill look for other one once Ill have a free min or 2

sugestion: since he can fire nuke I would use that as bombardment but as was said he has a long range with that thing 50 * 50 squares?
Or the nuke ability should be disabled and replaced with nuke carier ability making transport out of rex and removing nukes move command :mischief: :nuke:
PS: anyone uses ICBMS? I removed them from my game becose of theyer annoing ability to strike anywhere on the map

May 24, 2007, 08:27 PM
What I suggest is just make Rex a nuke carrier like a Nuclear Sub. The advantage is he can reach in-land targets over any terrain. Keep tactical nukes the same, bombard range 6 (unless your map is truly enourmous and you want to scale that up appropriately), that way you'll actually have the need to load them into Rex and have him carry them over. And while you're at it, best give Rex, and the Nukes he carries, Hidden Nationality.

Gee, I should know this, does SDI shoot down tactical nukes too? If it does, that sucks, makes Tactical nukes useless except that they cost $200 less, which is really only $60 less when you put in the Nuclear Sub (which can always encounter the good old 'getting sunk with nuke aboard' syndrome). If it doesn't, that's perfect for representing Rex's rail gun beauty, ie:

SDI: Is that a CHALLENGE!!!?

Rex: Yeah, try finding, tracking, and shooting down a warhead, travelling somewhere between half and close-to the speed of light, with no exhaust, fired from any random location on Earth.

ICBM's might seem cheap that they can hit anywhere in the world, but that's the point of building them, and that's what they can really do. That's what the Cold War was all about of course, both sides could use this 'cheap stuff', making it not so cheap. Then in MGS Rex came along, now you can't tell who's firing, so you won't know who to shoot back!

Anywho, got the back of Rex done, working on the Radome, then that uber rail gun, and then it's animation time! (

May 25, 2007, 03:25 AM
Weeee! Aaargh!

May 25, 2007, 01:59 PM
your right with ICBMS but still I dont use them coz they ruin the pleasure of war

what about rails or whatever that is (0 move cost thing) I dont use that as well its imposible to travel around the world in 1 turn.....

Rex looks good so far but Im not sure if that thing on its back isnt to big Ive never examined him so much tho. Anyway keep working day and night I want to be the first person to test it :D

May 25, 2007, 02:32 PM
Yeah, I've tried to stick as close to the artwork as possible, that whole thing really does stick out like that back there, it must be the engine, which really would need to be quite huge to power a rail gun plus the insane amount of hydraulics in the legs. It'll look more balanced I think when the rail gun is done. Also there's the fact that this thing changes its posture alot when the heels are up. It'll be a job to animate, but I'll definately be keeping an eye on trying to make this look balanced.

May 25, 2007, 02:43 PM
I'll be glad when your done with this and back in the water......

May 25, 2007, 02:45 PM
well its old rex its not so modern as ray so I gess it needs big engine and hydraulicks but that huge back and heels are killing me. Im realy looking forward for your animations how long do they usualy take to make?

Back to the water? I agree with that but it has to be an arsenal so I would have 3 most important metal gears if I wount count that metal gear from mgs 3

May 25, 2007, 02:54 PM
I really hope to have this all done before the end of this month. With a bipedal unit like this that might be wishful thinking, but about a week should do if nothing gets in the way.

EDIT: Modelling is done! I might fiddle with that camo texture a bit more tomorrow (if I have time tomorrow, since my sister continues to conscript me into painting her house for her) but other than that, it be animating time: (

May 25, 2007, 11:40 PM
Model looks great I wish I could do that as well.
I gess you could try to make it in original colour and in some camo.
Would you mind retexturing ray to original colours? Becose colours you made are for massproduced rays (those without tail) and prototype is grey
Mass produced ray would be great unit to slightly weaker then prototype and cheaper

May 26, 2007, 07:21 AM
Woo! Rex looks great! Thank you, Orthanc!

May 26, 2007, 11:23 AM
Looks sweet.

May 26, 2007, 07:15 PM
I was in fact considering fixing a few things about Ray, namely the walk animation and a missing joint in the wings, but the Prototype was painted green, granted it's quite desaturated, but it's green for sure. The mass produced versions were tan (as you can tell, the following are in NO way my models!): ( (

So I won't be retexturing Ray, especially since it wasn't designed to be retextured, it would add a lot to an already large job. I had the idea of retexturing Rex from the start, so he's set up approriately. Speaking of which, time to have a crack at those...

May 27, 2007, 01:59 AM
oh Im sorry to hear that I was always hoping for retexture. I ges that means you wount do mass produced version

by the way its obvios that those are not your models they are from bonus dvd but it would be great if those were yours :-)

May 28, 2007, 06:11 PM
hurry up the Rex and move Arsenal to the top and Ill give you link to special reward pirates of the caribian 3 full movie I just run acros it :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

May 28, 2007, 09:10 PM
:nope:Sorry, bribe is ineffective cause I'm sure I could find a free download (I'm assuming that's what you've found) for that on my own, but I'd rather watch it in theatres first (which should be tomorrow) and then grab an official copy later.

Besides, Ship of the Line is next, and there's 4 other sailing ships before Arsenal, kicking those back would be plain un-Orthancy.

Have patience grasshopper:pat:, I'm working at it.

Ares de Borg
May 28, 2007, 10:06 PM
Great to hear about the Ship Of the Line. At the moment I'm using your Trident as such, but it's too large. While you're at it, what about a new Frigate? The rusty old Vanilla Frigate deserves an update, by the master of sail himself. :)

May 28, 2007, 10:33 PM
This is in fact in the plans, as I've said in this thread, I plan to swap out every sailing vessel (maybe the ironclad too) with my own versions. I figure Wyrmshaodw, vingrjoe and others have the modern era taken care of inside and out plus backwards. Probably mirrored too.

Frigate is now officially on the to-do list then. At the bottom, but it's on there. I guess you'll just have to make due with a new Ship of the Line, Carrack, and the Flying Dutchman (as well as 2 new Meso-American ships) till then.;)

Certainly have my work cut out for me here.:crazyeye:

And to not leave you guys with nothing on Rex, here's the Fidget anima-nation. Yes, the textures are different: (

I'm currently working on the tricky fortify animation, involving the switch from high-heels to no-heels. I think now I'll keep the heels away for all attacks, and have Rex take a step back to absorb the recoil of the Rail Gun. Otherwise I'd need to give 2 fortify animation options.

May 29, 2007, 02:47 AM
It looks wery good I cant wait for it to be done. COme on man Ill do anything for arsenal and rex and maybe little retexture of ray to its original colours :D and mass version
thats a little bribe I found yestrday there are several movies and several seson of some stuf
PS: I would kill for arsenal and Rex :D

May 29, 2007, 04:12 AM
OK, we undesrtood you want those units :deadhorse:

Orthanc, its looking great! You do realise the victory animation has to be a freaky T-rex roar? :D

May 29, 2007, 01:33 PM
Yes Stormy, the victory will be a classic T-Rex roar. Maybe I should also include a guy fleeing in a jeep saying "Must go faster, must go faster, must go faster.":D

I'm doing what I can to get Rex done (really doubt it'll be ready for the May Unit of the Month), I'll probably fix the Ray animations before starting the next unit, since it'll be easier to do that after creating a good walk for Rex. As for Arsenal, to avoid a homicide (w00t! no spelling errors!) I'll consider moving it up to next in line, but only if the requesters of the units it'd be budding ahead of don't argue. Have to play fair in the shipyards.

PS: That 'beating-dead-horse' smily is classic.

May 29, 2007, 02:35 PM
No we want ships we want ships wait for arsenal.....I miss your boats, its like me asking for you to move up my drawing based requests, I have to wait its only fair man...

May 29, 2007, 02:56 PM
My asian dragon is in front of it too! And I`m pretty sure Par won`t wait for his Hajduk a second longer than he has to ;)

People, stand in line! Thats why our poor Orthanc made his to-do list in the first place ;)

May 29, 2007, 03:17 PM
Alrighty then, democracy is the selected government, so no-can-do on the Arsenal budding in line.

May 29, 2007, 03:32 PM
I gess its time to change goverment to despotism :D

PS : you should add this sound when Rex goes bom: Its not over yet Snake!!!!

May 29, 2007, 03:49 PM

Find the ENTIRE sound file collection for Metal Gear Solid, (and MGS2 while your at it) and I could. Unfortunately, I've looked for such a collection for hours, and having that as the death sound would really limit the useability of this unit.

Edit: Hrmm, Fortify animation is done, but I'm finding that railgun going off-frame when facing north. So he's smaller than the previous animation preview, let me know how the size and animation is looking (this is just the fortify): (

PS: If anyone DOES find those sounds, tell me!

May 30, 2007, 01:17 AM
Why is he raising heels and walking backwards? I thought he was suposed to stand and put down those heels

Ill try to look for them but I cant promise anything

oh and theres a way to get the sounds but its complicated. record it in game with some program but in tahta case tehre would be few background sounds maybe I cant check its ziped in sit file I cant open that and Im to lazy to look for program to do so

May 30, 2007, 05:23 AM
Looking great! It think the size is OK too..

May 30, 2007, 10:08 AM
No, the heels are down when it isn't doing anything. In combat, and running, the heels were up. I don't think it really can run at all with them down. He walks backwards because when he 'stands up' his feet stay planted, so the body moves forward alot, and is thus off-center. Especially for the rail gun attack, I need as much frame space in front of him as I can get to show off the attacks, so he walks backwards to re-center himself in the frame.

Now I did have both MGS and MGS2, but that was before my brother took the PS2 to college, then sold it for an XBox. Anyways, I've tried getting sounds for a different game out of a recording before, the background sounds are always far too intrusive. And, the program for opening that file you sent costs money, LOTS (gee, can't everyone just use WinZIP like normal society?:crazyeye: )... Keep hunting!

May 30, 2007, 10:59 AM
maybe you should try mininova you can find many things that cost money for free but you have to spent some time downloading....I love torents :D

Ill keep hunting for now.
Question : what kind of attacks can arsenal do anyway? I relized that I havent seen it attack anything....

May 30, 2007, 12:51 PM
Well it's a ginormous sub, so it'll have torpedoes, as well as missiles it'll launch from its top. That's about it, the rest of Arsenal's, arsenal, was stuff it had stored in it, the army of commandos, mass produced Rays, and a nuke or two.

May 30, 2007, 01:28 PM

nuke or 2? I think there is more then one or 2 after all its not a small sub.
Its gona look strange seeing cruiser big as arsenal. oh well nothings perfect. after all ray is bit bigger then a solider in civilization.

May 30, 2007, 01:32 PM
And foot soldiers are as big as cities! Taller than battleships! Able to leap over skyscrapers in a single bound! It's Super Civilization Man!:crazyeye:

The amount of nukes it can carry is your choice when you add it in the editor, as I've never included stats with my units. That part of the unit making process has little to do with the animations.

May 30, 2007, 02:38 PM
I think you should add some stats just for orientation coz my friend done this with Ray
att 50
def 50
mov 3
aa 8 (anti air)

hp bonus 10
cost 700

You better not know what kind of stats he gave to prometheus and x304

I plan to use arsenal as masive invisible transport but slower then ships on the other hand

Jun 01, 2007, 12:05 PM
Well I'm working on the rail gun attack (might need to break into aaglo's yard afterwards to get those sweet machine-gun effects off of his battle barge's for Attack B:mischief: ), in the meanwhile I though I should put up the run, since it is really the trickiest of all animations: (

A little off topic, last night I finished a game of Civ, a game I've been playing since before this thread was created. I won it via conquest, because I had 7500+ Units or so. Because I stopped the tech tree after steam power, Diplomacy and Space Race victories were out, and I disabled Cultural. But Domination proved impossible too, because I had so many units I couldn't build anymore, and so couldn't make settlers to take the last 2% of the planet I needed for Domination victory.

Total playing time: 284 hours, 17 minutes, 1 second.

I've been wondering, did I just set a record?:crazyeye:

Jun 01, 2007, 12:14 PM
The Run is great!

Off topic - you are insane. Any screenies? :)

Jun 01, 2007, 01:34 PM
Yeah sure! All these are taken from right before I attack the last city. As you might guess, my Civ color is Green:mischief: :

Here's the last city left, some middle-o-nowhere Chinese town. 3 Chinese Riflemen, against 3 Cavalry Armies and 44 Cavalry: (
Here's my capital, I was playing as Canada. The name Ottawa is buried somewhere under those "Gaurdian Armies" (which never saw any action:D ). You can also see my Titanic, standing in as an Oceanliner, and aaglo's Ghost Ship, standing in as, Ghost Ships: (
That unit total, doesn't include captured units does it? I certainly had WAY more than 32 (7500(suspected unit cap)-7461(My Units)-7(China's Units)=32) captured units, so the grand unit cap must be over 7500. 7750 or 8000 I'd accept: (
Tech tree stops at Sanitation so I can have 12+ cities, Electricity so I can irrigate anywhere, Industrialization so I can have Factories: (
Just before I finished 'em off. China had the 2nd highest score and not just because they were last to go. They took a lot of land themselves (from other civs), but they were no Spartan's, 400+ units don't stand well against 8000: (
This is one of my 'Galleon Piles'. These guys were too far away to get to the last war. There's over 200 Cavalry stored on this one spot, which when including the Galleons, holding 4 units each, equals so many units that the game didn't allow me to scroll to the bottom of the list...: (
That's the Averof in-game. The unit it's standing in for is called Iron Frigate, I've changed the graphics for it about 4 times over the last 4 years. Most powerful unit in this game, came with Steam Power, if I were to start fresh ( ) I would leave them out and stick with just sailing vessels, they were too powerful for my sails to be any good against. Anyways, here you can see, I've made a wall of them. The ocean to the right on the map, the one surrounded by my continents, is completely sealed off with similar walls made by my navy. It even covers the two continents at the south west: (
And a bit of Geography Lesson of where was who: (
You'll notice that India, Germany, Rome, Japan and China are mostly void of cities. That's because I got too lazy to want to bother defending and managing them, so I used the good ol' 'Clear Cut' strategy:devil:. I was trying to resettle Germany for a domination win, but el Unit Cappo el stoppo, that-o.

Jun 01, 2007, 02:50 PM
You`re insane .. I`d grow bored after building or conquering just a quarter of your empire..

Now start it again, only this me with using Rex

Jun 02, 2007, 10:54 AM
why didnt you conquer whole world? I never leave a spot I always conquer whole map
Walk doesnt look bad good job

Jun 02, 2007, 11:14 AM
Well as I mentioned above, didn't want to bother managing that many more cities (I've never tried counting how many cities I have as it is). Plus, my standard garrison for each city (in this game) was 5 Riflemen, 1 Cavalry and 1 Cannon. The computer used this setup often as well, it was a little concerning how easy it was sometimes to get through those garrisons.

To conquer instead of destroy all those cities, I would've had to either put less men in each city (making them more vulnerable) or use my offensive forces to guard the cities (greatly slowing down my victory). Remember, I was at the Unit Cap even without taking and defending all those cities. Also, keep in mind this map is set at 300x300, where the regular Giga maps are just 160x160. Given the map size and unit cap, I think it would be simply impossible to adequately defend all my cities.

With 'clear cutting', you save offensive and defensive unit power, make it impossible for the enemy to recover their factories (which won't be really useful to you until the resistance ends), the loss of enemy territory often lets you get in range of more cities. Raising big cities gives you a ton of workers to fix the land up, disband for sheilds in your own cities, or make quick colonies for resources you free from enemy land. Plus, if an enemy takes a city, they get a tiny percentage of your treasury, which in my case, making about 12000 per turn (that's right folks!) means ALOT of gold goes to the enemy. My strategy was to take just one shoreside city, so I can land troops quicker and also heal faster. Then clear cut the rest of the continent, and if I can, use that initial city to rebuild with my own people after the enemy is extinct.

Holy crap! That's awesome!

Jun 02, 2007, 01:45 PM
you know what? I challenge you so much smart talk lets see how good you realy are!
Didnt you want to use heels for this attack?

Jun 02, 2007, 01:53 PM
I'm currently working on the tricky fortify animation, involving the switch from high-heels to no-heels. I think now I'll keep the heels away for all attacks, and have Rex take a step back to absorb the recoil of the Rail Gun. Otherwise I'd need to give 2 fortify animation options.

I also tried having the heels drop during the rail gun firing and act kinda like springs, but that didn't look good, so I just had the foot under the gun slide back (yes, slide, not step, tried stepping too, but that required rotating Rex, which pulled the railgun away from the effects, so that didn't look good either).

Not trying to out-smart you here, just explaining everything to avoid confusion.

EDIT: That strategy I gave earlier probably isn't totally valid in normal games anyways. There was extensive modding in that game I played, I just found that was how it worked in my scenario.

Jun 02, 2007, 02:29 PM
Hey Orthanc just a request, but when your done in the not to distant future with your list, could you maybe take a crack at making a future era battleship with laser weaponry? Neomega made a laser destroyer, and a cruiser, it would be cool to have a battleship. Your call man.

Jun 02, 2007, 02:42 PM

What's funny is, that's actually the very FIRST thing I ever tried making for Civ 3, using a watered-down version of 3D Studio Max called GMax, almost a year before I took a crack at POV Ray.

Here's what the plans were:
-Orion Class Battleship
-4 Turrets
-4 Guns each
-Longer than Titanic
-Aircraft hangar underneath the stern-most turret
-Nuclear Powered
-Missile rack cluster in deck
-Giant Rail Gun (gee, wonder where I can get references for that one?;) ) unfolds from mid-ship hangar

It's on the list! If you want anything added, removed or changed, you've got plenty of time, so feel free to ask.

Jun 02, 2007, 02:53 PM
Could you maybe replace the railgun with a giant laser cannon that charges up and releases a ginormious beam of energy and fires it broadside? Just an idea.

Also I'd set the color close to Neomega's Laser Destroyer:

Also you no doubt could probably do better lasers than neo's ;) especially after seeing your railgun attack...

Jun 02, 2007, 02:56 PM
As in you want red lasers? Alrighty, and laser instead of rail gun is alright too, I mean they're not far off from eachother (visually) anyways.

Jun 02, 2007, 02:59 PM
No I ment the hull color(must be more specific Swoggy..end of thought) lasers can be any color but red is a good choice to match the destroyer's, i'll leave that up to you.

Jun 02, 2007, 03:10 PM
It's all good, anyways not many modern ships are painted different than the standard various greys. And with all this talk of lasers, here's the final attack, AttackD, just have the death animation left! (

PS: I really hope ImageShack doesn't have a way of keeping track of how much stuff you're uploading in total:mischief:
PPS: I think the designers of Rex (the real life ones, not Otacon) intentionally positioned this laser in it's rather awkard location. Don't know why, but it couldn't have not crossed their minds that where this thing shoots from is rather, disturbing...:dubious:

Jun 02, 2007, 03:15 PM
It looks like Rex is scanning for lifeforms rather than doing an actual attack lol, but it is an attack nevertheless. How are you going to do the death? Just a big explosion(the easyiest route lol)

Jun 02, 2007, 03:20 PM
Just figuring that out myself! I figure one big initial explosion, a few small ones, with Rex wabbling and finally falling over, whether it falls towards the Radome or Rail gun is a good question...

Jun 02, 2007, 03:23 PM
You could have both its "Arms" fall off, and the rest of the body topple forward and be engulfed in a huge explosion.

Jun 02, 2007, 03:23 PM

 Great !

Jun 02, 2007, 04:36 PM
maybe he could just kneel like in the game. When it was destryed Snakes were fighting on top of it so you could ad 2 man fighting animation on top of Rex :D
That laser is there so no one can hide under Rex so theres no blind spot where you could hide in the game.
Anyway its a strange place for a lasser on robots body maybe you could do attack E when you replace the lasser with some yelow water :D

Jun 02, 2007, 08:41 PM
Yay! The attacks are great! But where are the missiles? The Vulcan cannons?

Jun 02, 2007, 10:58 PM
You can be at ease Stormy one, your missiles and guns of several kinds can all be found on the new walking battle tank found here:

Jun 03, 2007, 08:04 PM
Where do you get the unit models from?

Jun 03, 2007, 08:12 PM
All the units I create are models I created myself. They may be based off images of other artist's models, but the model I release is my own. You can go back a little in the thread and see a few stages of Rex as I was making the model.

Jun 03, 2007, 08:26 PM
And you are darn good at it :D Thanks again for Rex!

Jun 04, 2007, 05:42 AM
Stormrage is right your realy realy good better then that guy who makes x units a day I tryed talking to him but hes mean.

Thanks in advance.

Jun 04, 2007, 03:09 PM
Great! That model of the hull-only is very valuable, the Carrack's going to be fun! (As will Ship of the Line before it).

Jun 04, 2007, 08:36 PM
Orthanc I was browsing for you and got this page with tons of pictures of Ships of the Line: m%3D1&start=1&sa=X&oi=images&ct=image&cd=1

check it out!

Heres a classic picture of two ships of the line fighting, an english and a french ship(go figure):

As far as designs go I favor the triple decker Ship of the Line myself.

Jun 04, 2007, 10:12 PM
Ah, the call of the sea...

Yep, thanks for those Sword_Of_Geddon! Some very nice designs (of course, one might notice aaglo's good ol' USS Constitution in there ), good find!

This reminds me, I need to get my Master and Commander DVD back...

I dont think thats the SOTL...I think the big ones are closer to the Trident...

[edit] I count 17 cannons per row, 3 rows...thats definitely "bajeezus" shooting numbers

Jun 06, 2007, 08:19 AM
one thing is for sure I wouldnt want to be its enemy if I were on the small ship on the left side

I stand corrected...I thought the Trident was more of a fictional ship, and that these were also...I thought SoTLs were a bit smaller than the Trident unit...

Notice that Orthanc hasn't responded in awile? I hope hes alright.
