View Full Version : No human players
RDomico Sep 28, 2005, 12:58 PM I would like to have the AI control all the civilizations and watch history unfold without my influence.
In Civ 3, there had to be a human controlled civ.
Not a big deal, but I think it would be neat to see. I am sure the game could easily do that because I would imagine the developers do that to test the game.
vStauffenberg Sep 28, 2005, 01:00 PM cool idea!
Mrdie Sep 28, 2005, 01:20 PM Neat idea, this could also be usefull for AI testing, like if someone made a new AI script and wanted to test it.
Varelse Sep 28, 2005, 01:33 PM You could do that in civ2. It was fun to build up your own world with the cheat function and then have no human player and watch the world you've made develop.
dc82 Sep 28, 2005, 01:33 PM yeah i missed that - letting them go on their own and seeing what happens.

I bet it's already there for precisely that reason. They had to test whether AI mods helped or hurt, after all, and making the game all AIs meant it could happen a lot faster. Whether they include that in the released game is an unknown.

If you read the german article that is how they tested the game....let the AI go at it and then study the stats. .
jcikal Sep 28, 2005, 04:51 PM I just know I'm gonna love Civ 4. Watching the AI go at it is something I thought I could do in Civ 3 but was dissapointed to find out I couldn't. The minute you lose, the game ends. I also wish we could watch it again in the form of replays to make videos of funny/cool stuff that happens while playing the game.

It should be fairly easy to make a video of what happened, being turn based, tile based movement, etc. I think I could even do something like that in BASIC with a text file, if the rest of the game was that way.
Anyhoo, this would be really cool.
HourlyDaily Sep 28, 2005, 06:07 PM I'm pretty sure if you use debug mode you can see everything.
From there, an idea might be to create a civ (name it whatever you like) and start with just one unit "The All Powerful One" with a strength of 1,000 and plenty of movement. Then just walk around observing and smiting whomever you like.
Stilgar08 Sep 28, 2005, 06:14 PM Ok I'm a comlete idiot when it comes to modding or enabling a debug-mode. Nevertheless I would like to see that as well. Does anybody know whether there will be a useable debug-mode included or not?!???
microbe Sep 28, 2005, 06:18 PM Hey, how about every civ could use a different AI? I mean they use different python scripts and DLLs, etc. So we could have a contest of "whose AI is the best".
We did this in our AI class back in grad school playing "The Lost Cities".

Hopefully they will let you "watch" a game like that rather than just the replay at the end.

There was another thread about that somewhere quite recently. I think some of the guys kinda halfway agreed they would see if they could make it happen. AI Wars..!
Carver Sep 28, 2005, 10:19 PM I'm glad this is (apparently) in; it's gotta be a great instructional tool for civvers, to see what the AI does. I know in Civ3 when I flew recon missions I was quite entertained by some of the AI actions.
stickciv Sep 28, 2005, 10:20 PM This (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=128878) thread kinda talks about this topic. But still, that one is about modding the game to have ai wars

That's the one I was thinking of... :)
Gr3yL3gion Sep 28, 2005, 10:40 PM It'll be a good idea, just to compare two games on a same map with same settings:
1) One with human player
2) One without human player.
