Cool! This guy is awesome. Looks like he could upgrade to Bebro's tiger warrior. One thing though; the civ color. It doesn't work. I think it's a pallette problem.

Ahh I like your units, but some of them have a little bit toungtwisting names...(But i know it's not your fault so you can't do much)

any chance you'll take up the slack on kal-el's unit requests? especially the African ones?

Really great work! I'll be using this fellow as a Nahuatal Mercinary.

You are making quite a good impression as a unit creator :)

Where could I find those?

Odin: Yeah I know...but whatever I do I can't seem to change it without screwing the unit up. I tried changing the civ-color black on the unit to a different color so it wouldn't be civ-colored(its not really supposed to be), but that didn't do didly squat....lol

This bad boy might go into the X mod. Keep up the good work. Your units look great, and I have faith you will get them to near-perfectness in time.

Other than the pallette problems...he's ok I guess. I'm going to try to get some help to fix that, soon I may have a perfect version availible... :)

Practice makes perfect - and you are starting off better than most IMHO.

Thankyou Ames, I really appreciate that my friend. Next unit should have less wrong with it than this one, maybe the odd animation quirk. :)

Nice - but what is it?
*cough* unit information *cough*

ShiroKobbure
Oct 03, 2005, 06:40 PM
good unit.
But do you test it in game? (the animation looks very slow)
I think you should slow down a bit and try to make everything perfect.
when he attacks his arm twirls around. Going into his head, and it doesnt look possible for his arm to move in such a way
the death is very strange
the clothing does not fit in the back.

but it is a very good model

I'm trying to stay away from typical animations, so we have something orginal with these. BTW, the clothing is ment to not cover the back...

I think it may be the ini...I'm not sure how to successfully adjust the speed.

I want him, i want him, i want him! ...for my mod, I mean. Will you have the civ-coloured version soon, do you think? Good work, Buddy!!

Lookin good Sword.

First, it's already quite a nice job. However, I think it still need some improvment. My advice would be to use your Samourai (for musket firing unit) and this one (for spear unit) as base, and try to improve them as much as you can from our advices. Once the unit is "perfect", save the animations, and start making new units, introducing relavitely small variation in the animations.
This way:
- Your two first units will reach a very fair status
- Your next units will be nice from the start.

The attack is indeed not so good, as the movement of the arms are not natural.
The death also needs improvment: perhaps if you have it go backward and upward to show he's falling? And not only upward?
The run is better thatn for you Samurai, there just a small glitch at the end of the animation
The fortify and the attack do not match correctly (last frame of fortify should be equal to the first frame of the attack, it seems your attack starts from the default)
Where's the shield in the victory?

For the speed: first, you still have too many frames (like 25 for the fortify animation, 15 should be enough). Second, you could try with CyberDreik Civ3FLCEdit, it's easy to change the speed with it

You are definitely starting a level up than most do with these initial units... great job and I like Steph's suggestion to really work on these first two before going on to more.

Traianus
Oct 04, 2005, 10:18 AM
I'll second that last comment. Steph has to be one of the top 'all-rounders'. Anyone could learn a lot there.
That run anim. looks cool. You should be proud of what you have done with this unit given how little time you have spent with unit making. Believe me, if it seems there is much criticism on this thread, it is simply because there is much interest in this unit. And it's your unit.
Well done again, Mate!

I will take your advice Steph. I fixed the errors preventing it from working in game btw(i also fixed the run for my other unit). I will make a new attack for this soon.

I can't seem to download. The link gives me an error page.

Yeah, me too. Since all downloads stored at uploads10 don't work and since I can't upload anything via easy upload, I suppose the upgrade broke something :-/

you are still fixing it right?

you fixed the attack animation arm and the other problems in the animation?

Sword_Of_Geddon

No, I fixed what prevented it from working in civ...:)

Whats wrong with the arm?

oh that arm thing. I thought you ment something else. Yes I'm going to update this and the other unit with new attacks and this one will get civcolor.

I got my Osprey book this morning so I'll post info on this unit later.

Steph
Oct 10, 2005, 05:14 AM
If you need info from Osprey book, just ask, I have about 350 of them

350? Whoah!

Oct 10, 2005, 07:53 AM
The Unit looks awesome but I think its name is actually spelled QUETZALCOATL, the feathered serpent, who the Aztecs thought returned when they saw Cortez and his men. But this could be entirely different so I won't to particular about it. I found it on this site:

http://www.crystalinks.com/aztecgods.html

Hope it helps! If not, oh well.

Traianus
Oct 10, 2005, 08:02 AM
No. I thought the same until I looked up the Osprey book. It's actually Cuextecatl.

Oct 10, 2005, 02:27 PM
Really nice unit, it works great.

Sword_Of_Geddon
Oct 10, 2005, 04:01 PM
Thankyou Righteous. I just updated the attack animation if you don't mind downloading it again, it now starts in the same place as the fortify, and isn't unrealistic looking.

Steph
Oct 11, 2005, 12:45 AM
Much better!
Now you have to redo the death, and the unit will be quite nice

Traianus
Oct 11, 2005, 03:58 AM
Good man, Sword! I'm waiting for the final version and will definitely be using it.
A little info.
This particular unit represents a triple alliance warrior who has captured two enemies in combat. The suit he wears is a huastec battle suit so, conceiveably he could be used as a Huastec also. It has been awarded to him for the two captures. The suits are given by the huastecs as part of their annual tribute to Tenochtitlan. This particular warrior is armed with a tepoztopilli spear who's point is festooned with little edges of obsidian and a chimali shield with added leather straps to protect his legs.

And the Final version is now posted...:)

Steph
Oct 11, 2005, 03:48 PM
Don't want to be to much a bother...
But in the Death your little guy is jumping forward, when he should be projected backward by the blow of the ennemy deadly strike

Sword_Of_Geddon
Oct 11, 2005, 08:25 PM
I've seen worse deaths. Sorry it isn't perfect but you wouldn't believe how hard it is to do a good death animation.

After I'm done with my next unit after the update for one of my pre-poser units, I'll start the Indian pack for you.

Steph
Oct 12, 2005, 01:28 AM
Well, I think if you just use your current death, but inverse the translation of the body (ie move back instead of forward), it should be enough

Sword_Of_Geddon
Oct 12, 2005, 10:12 PM
I actually did try that, but it ended up not looking that different from the camera angle civ uses....

Steph
Oct 13, 2005, 12:23 AM
That's perhaps because the camera angle used by Civ is the right one

It's nice to try to make something different, but sometime it's not possible.

Sword_Of_Geddon
Oct 13, 2005, 11:15 PM
I will have to settle for a more mundane death next time. You will be happy with my next unit btw Steph. You could use another unit for your Mexican civ's Napolianic era right?

Steph
Oct 14, 2005, 09:12 AM
I could always use more units

Sword_Of_Geddon
Oct 14, 2005, 03:33 PM
Good news. I e-mailed you again btw. Don't know if you have seen it or not Steph.
