Snorken Oct 05, 2005, 02:44 PM Looks good. The hat in the medieval era looks a little weird, though.
Zion_Withrow Oct 05, 2005, 05:30 PM I agree the hat does look weird, but everything else looks great!
Plotinus Oct 06, 2005, 05:31 AM He could double as Calvin, were one to have a scenario featuring sixteenth-century Geneva...
SilentKnight Oct 07, 2005, 04:01 PM now we just need to know how to make his civ.
edit: i cant connect to the server to download it.
chaseclift Oct 04, 2008, 04:56 PM Haven't you read Swedish history? Its Gustavus!!!!
Stormrage Oct 04, 2008, 05:43 PM Gustavus? Sounds Roman. Anyway, I was about to scream and yell at you for making a useless bump, but now I am interested.
Since ED also made a Gustav Vasa LH, and we have lots of smart people here, how come now one noticed. Eh, smart people? How come?

How do you know chaseclift is Swedish? His profile states nothing of the kind.
Ares de Borg Oct 06, 2008, 02:30 PM I was referring to the authors of the wikipedia article. And chaseclift obviously doesn't know Latin. ;)
To solve the mystery: Yes, old documents were often written in Latin, and the names latinized (in this case, adding an -us) . This doesn't make them more correct than the "regular" name. So jorde is right.
Huayna Capac357 Oct 07, 2008, 09:21 PM Chaseclift: bumping a thread 3 years later over a trivial error that could be fixed in editor in about 2 seconds
Stormrage Oct 07, 2008, 09:43 PM And its not even an error..
ShiroKobbure Oct 07, 2008, 11:22 PM In the English Wikipedia about Gustav Vasa:
18th Century references in Britain
"In 1739, English playwright Henry Brooke wrote the play Gustavus Vasa, dealing with the liberation of Sweden from Danish rule. However, Robert Walpole, British Prime Minister at the time, believed that the play's villain was intended to represent him, and had the play banned - the first English play to be so banned under the Licensing Act 1737.
Later in the 18th Century, the name Gustavus Vasa was given to Olaudah Equiano, a prominent African ex-slave living in Britain and involved in the struggle to abolish slavery."
Gustavas was a fictional character based on Gustav Vasa.
Maybe you should research before trying to correct someone.

I can hardly believe my ears. Actually after looking over it, it would make more sense if it was Gustavus(Swedish), the figure head I would criticize as wildly inaccurate, if Jorde had made the figure head with african features in the face and darker, and named it differently there would be no trouble. The way that it was made it was decidedly european and more of a european complexion of a sea captain or one that was bronzed by the sun(outdoors as well). I read alot and read about the Thirty year war so that was how I came to know about Gustavus
Goldfool Oct 15, 2008, 03:46 PM Gustav I was known as Gustav Vasa and Gustav II was known as Gustavus.
Oskar Kahn Oct 17, 2008, 03:35 PM I´m a swede my self and i never heard anyone talking about some Gustavus Vasa even though i´m quite intrested in history. Gustav is the right name and no silly "Gustavus"!:nono:
Oskar Kahn Oct 17, 2008, 03:39 PM Gustav I was known as Gustav Vasa and Gustav II was known as Gustavus.
After Gustav come his son Erik XIV.:nono:
Goldfool Oct 17, 2008, 06:35 PM After Gustav come his son Erik XIV.:nono:
Gustav I, Gustav Vasa (known as Gustav Erikson before his coronation)
Born 1496 - died 1560, and was succeeded by his son Eric XIV
-------------------
Then four generations later Gustav II, Gustav Adolf (known as Gustavus Adolphus after his coronation). born 1594 - died 1632.
-------------------
Oskar Kahn Oct 18, 2008, 04:26 AM In sweden Gustav "Ericsson" Vasa is simply known as Gustav Vasa. And "Gustavus Adolphus" is simply Known as Gustav II Adolf. So what you call Gustavus Vasa was no liberator from danish rule.
Huayna Capac357 Oct 18, 2008, 07:08 AM Welcome, Oscar Kahn!
chaseclift Dec 01, 2008, 08:50 AM Gustav I was known as Gustav Vasa and Gustav II was known as Gustavus.
Thats who I meant Gustav II/Gustavus :)
