Welcome to the Isolation map.
I have been building maps for some time, but this is my first map for the community. I am providing a "spoiler" for what I like in critisism. This probably was already covered by the Mods, but still...
Because this is my first published map, I request the following:
I require constructive critisism only. If you see a way I can improve, please say, "You can improve this here". Put-downs like "this sucks" are not appreciated.
If you do not like the map, feel free to tell me so! I am including a poll to vote in. Please tell me why you do not like it, so I can improve in the future. Just be nice about it. ;)
If you do like this map, I definitely want to hear it! But flattery gets few points with me; I know my first published map can't possibly be my best ever.
If you spot a bug/exploit, tell me immediately. I have to know these things so I can update it.
Here is the story:
The galaxy has been in turmoil for some time. Colliding planets send hailstones the size of moons off into space. Earth has been no exception. The entire planet has been sunk beneath the oceans. This solar system has quieted down somewhat, leaving it possible for continents to re-form. But, as of yet they have not. Only a large number of archipelagoes remain. The terrain is still scattered. But civilization is beginning to re-form. Your tribe is one of the few advanced survivors of the wreck. Your job is to populate this new world, and take advantage of your chance to start again.
However, not all the nations are so advanced. Savage warriors inhabit the world. Only 1 Barbarian Camp per archipelago is present at the start of the game (4000 AD). However, a large island is inhabited almost entirely by the savages, who are determined not to allow invaders on their soil. They will fight to the death to keep that land.
The details:
This is a Large map, so 12 nations are possible. Of course, there are only 6 archipelagoes, so it gets rather crowded if you do that. Each island is unique in it's terrain, and, therefore, the resources. Some have Rivers or inland lakes; some do not. Also, no player has access to all resources! A few resources you may have more than one of (one island has two Iron, while at least one has none). Also, each archipelago is at least 5 tiles away from one another, so contact with other archipelagoes is restricted. Suicide galleys are possible in some cases, while they are impossible in others.
A single island has all of the resources in the game, but is populated from turn 1 by Barbarian Camps on all but one square. Conquering this island is difficult, but not impossible, especially in the Industrial Age on. Tiny micro-islands are useful for meeting other nations, and getting towards a Domination victory, if you wish. All victory conditions are allowed, so you can pick and choose as you desire.
I wish now to say this: The rules are tweaked just a little bit. There are only two rule changes, so I did not place this map in the Mod's section. If I am incorect in doing this, Mods, please move this thread. The rule changes are:
Although you may settle on the fertile Flood Plain, you are prohibited from settling on plain Desert squares. Settling on all Tundra is also disabled, but a single Grassland tile is present in the Tundra islands. Hills are also unsettleable. I have done this to encourage the use of Colonies, which, IMHO, are horribly underrated. Until now.
Barbarians have been upgraded just a tad: Their basic unit is the Archer, and their advanced unit is the same. I did this to add a little flavor to the game. :)I wish you all the best of luck! May your reign be long and fruitful!

And the (zipped) game.
This game has been updated from it's original version.
