Hate to cause a panic, but I was checking our release dates at work (EBGames) today and noticed that Civ4 has been changed from October 25th, to October 26th in our systems. This indicates a one-day push for launch... not a huge issue in the broad sense of things, but just a heads-up to not be too surprised if you see a one-day slip elsewhere.

It's entirely possible that one of our programmers goofed though.... So I could be wrong...

Why not just kill me? I'm already bleeding. Kidding. I guess I'd rather have them use that extra day to fix some critical error than not use it at all.

I wonder if this will be like that cult who all committed Mass Suicide with the approach of the Hale-Bopp comet-just because they thought there was a UFO in the tail waiting to pick up their spirits? I can see the newspapers already 'October 25th: Authorities are baffled by mass suicides which seem to have occured-almost simultaneously across the globe. Though the death toll won't be known for at least a week, the police in the various countries assure us that the number could be as high as 15-20,000. The only clue to the cause of these deaths is a cryptic note saying "Sid, why couldn't it have gone Gold on the 12th, rather than the 13th of October." Cryptographic and handwriting experts are working night and day to crack this strange code, fearful that it might point to some looming disaster. More details as they come to hand.' :mischief: :D.

If it's merely one day delay, it could usually be absorbed by changing 2nd day air to overnight air, at least for some of the shipment. I feel that Oct 26 isn't going to be the final date...

We still haven't gotten a gone gold announcement. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a 1-2 week delay. It's disappointing to have to wait longer, but it will be worth it in the long run when the game ships with fewer bugs/more polish.

Well, since the release date is the 25th, getting it in stores the 26th makes sense and is when they told me I'd get it when I pre-ordered long ago.

No offense Rayanth, but EB games system seems to be all messed up these days. I think the site still says it's coming out 11/14/05. Either way I wouldn't mind a one day delay or even a week or two delay. As long as EB gets me my game sometime in the near future, I have no complaints.

The stores are often more accurate than the website. FYI, the website is run as a seperate child of the same parent company -- we're not really as related as people think we are to the website. They have entirely different promotions and sales, etc... our informational databases are probably different, on release dates and stuff... why theirs is wrong I don't know, but I have confirmed that the in-store databases display October 26th as the release date. (In fact, they showed this date at my store before anyone had announced it on this forum... we knew just as soon as anyone else did)

Addendum:
Given that we are in the process of merging with GameStop, however, I wouldnt' be too surprised if there are glitches. The bulk of the merging will take place after christmas, but to keep it from affecting business too much, I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to get less important stuff dealt with in advance. Our comptuer systems in-store will still be seperate until at least February, but the website could possibly merge sooner... I really don't know. But the merger is very likely to cause a little chaos here and there.

That's fine with me - I have a paper due the 26th - won't be able to fully enjoy the game until I get my work out of the way!

When I pre-ordered through Amazon (US version), my confirmation email said ship on the 25th with estimated delivery date range of the 27th-29th.

Rayanth, I think the date says 26th because that's the day that it'll be on the shelves. I remember you saying before that people will be able to get it from Brick and Mortar stores on the 26th, and my local Gamestop also said my preorder will be in on the 26th. Maybe they've put the pick-up date as opposed to the shipping date?

I just went to Software Etc. and preordered my copy. They swore they would have it on the 25th; one guy even said, "Isn't that the shipping date?" and the boss said, "No, that's when we will have it."

It's probably gonna be:

Shipping date: Oct 24th
On shelves: Oct 26th

(but since it ships on the 24th, stores will have it sometime on the 25th, and will probably let you pick it up if you pre-ordered, imo)
