Sorry if this has been asked before but I wondered whether civ 4 will feature natural disatsers like in Sim City. The added depth, realism and strategy this would allow would be very compelling.

Rexflex Oct 12, 2005, 07:05 AM I think there is a thread in the suggestions forum, but as I understand it there won't be natural disasters in the normal game. Though I'd say it shouldn't be that hard to set some up as events in moded games (provided you weren't after cool accompanying graphical effects). aahz_capone Oct 12, 2005, 12:46 PM considering that floods and disease were in civ3, and easy to simulate (just a random decrease in population or someting) I don't see how they could not put it in civ4. Volcanos would be a bit different as there is no pollution anymore.... if not, there would be a way to mod some natural disasters the likes of sim city: - create an invisible barbarian or animal unit with nuke power which could simulate a surprise volcano erupting. - create some invisible barb workers which go around randomly cutting down forests would simulate acid rain. :cringe: - create some barbarian super marines which would simulate an alien invasion. :borg: - create some barbarian naval units with seamonster graphics to simulate a godzilla attack. :nuke: any more ideas? Cyberstar Oct 14, 2005, 08:02 AM I just think it would be really cool if my enemy had an earthquake or hurricane in the middle of a war. Tommy1234567890 Oct 15, 2005, 06:37 PM this is another thread wit the same question started by me http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=129018&page=2 p.s. i started the thread first so it was y idea!!!!!!!!!!! na na na na booooooooooooo booooooooooo Vael Oct 15, 2005, 08:30 PM I just think it would be really cool if my enemy had an earthquake or hurricane in the middle of a war. But would you reload the game if it happened to you in the middle of a war? ;) lost_civantares Oct 15, 2005, 08:36 PM But would you reload the game if it happened to you in the middle of a war? ;) Ahh, but what what would happen if your enemy was in the middle of a war ?:D Anyway, as said in other threads, how much area does a square represent? Even for a hurricane/cyclone, unless it is huge, it wouldn't really affect a whole square that much. Earthquakes do have a large areas of damage, so they could work, if they are considered under natural events. Another problem is how long does a turn represent? If it represents a whole year, than you would have to be having multiple hurricanes going through areas every turn, and think about how it would be if you were in the begging turns, if you go for about 7 hurricanes, that would be 350 hurricanes in one turn! Almost :nuke:!:D. So really, it just wouldn't work with a turn based game unless it was a scenaro, and that's a lot of work just for 7 scenaros. |
