In Civ3, there is a Great Wonder dedicated to someone called Artemis. Does anybody know who is this "Artemis"?Sounds like he/she came from Greek History.

Greek mythology. Forget what she did if anything.

Sister of Apollo, the sun god. So she was a moon godess. Also the godess of the hunt.

Also a virgin goddess, like Athena. If you see her naked, she'll turn you into an animal and have her dogs chase you. Latin equivalent is Diana.

I believe that's the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus. Artemis was the Greek goddess of the hunt. She was the twin sister of Apollo and was often identified with the moon.

A theory suggests that Artemis is the Greek equivalent of Kybele. Another theory says that Virgin Mary was indeed Artemis because of the Ephesus link and virginity link. Ephesus resisted christianity strongly because the Temple`s huge following.

A story on the Temple:

When Alexander the Great saw the unfinished(or devastated) temple he wanted to donate money to help finish the temple. However priests did not want this because they thought a God can not donate a God.
