"Centuries later... archiologists discover the remains of once great civilizations..."

Welcome to the Civ4 Epic. This epic will play out the rise and fall of civilizations based on a map that I created a year or so ago for just this purpose. Below will be posts that will have shortcuts to signifigant events of this story.

4000BC - The First Culture

A cool wind blew across the northern lake, as the Cheoni (pronounced chay-oyh-ni) people - totaling 23 people in size - wandered towards the fresh waters. It was a yearly ritual for them, coming from the southern jungle. The time of year is the autumn, but the Cheoni have been frequently pushed out of the jungle by competing tribes. They were no strangers to the sudden cold, dry air that came off the northern lake, which to them, is a sea. Over the years, they scouted the land, and came across some maize, which would regrow every year. The maize that they planted a year before have grown, allowing them to settle down for a few months. The Cheoni knew that they can't stay in the jungle long, as if they went back, they'd probably be attacked. So, the elders gathered, and decided to set up camp.

The camp wasn't much - most "houses" were made of four sticks that formed something like a tall, 4-sided pyramid. The opening always faced south, to protect them from the wind. These "houses" were generally 6x6 feet (2x2 meters), and 10 feet (3 1/3 meters) tall. The top 3 feet of the opening usually had some type of covering. These houses were typically used just for sleeping. In fact, they weren't even called houses, but functioned more like tents. Children would have similar houses, but smaller in size (3x3 feet, and 5 feet tall). These would be placed next to each other, and would sometimes be connected. Several jars of pottery were also kept in some tents, which contains water, and sometimes maize.

These were simple huts, and crudely constructed - being made out of sticks, hay, twigs, and leaves, but it was meant to be temporary... or so they thought...

Year 1 begins, now.

It's not a civ that I'm playing as, but it's based on Civ4 (origanally based on Civ3, but I decided to wait and add Civ4 elements to it).

1st Year of Civilization: The Hunt And First Feast

Fall turned into winter, and winter to Spring. The winter had been surprisingly warm after the brief cold spell, and the villagers were able to plant their sparse crops for an early farming cycle. Several babies were also born at the end of the winter, and the village started to flourish. The scouts have made several expaditions to the west, and surveyed where the cattles grazed, the surrounding land, and searched for any competiting villages. After being gone for 3 months, the scouts have returned.

"Scouts,", the elder said while holding onto an old wooden stick, sitting in front of his tent, "Welcome back. Tell me what you have found.". "Great elder, ", replied the lead scout, "we have found many cattle to the west, and there appears to be no other peoples in the area.". The elder replied, "Good, I will gather up the hunters. Their families will give them food on their journey".

The next day, the elder gathered 5 of the village's best hunters. They would travel with a scout to where the cattles grazed, and find the two largest cattle to kill and bring back to the village. The hunt took on a greater urgency, as, even though the winter was almost over, their food supply was dwindling, and it was a good 3 day trek to the hunting grounds. In the meantime, the river, and fish would suffice for now.

The hunters took with them rather simple implements - 3 flame-hardened wooden spears (some with stone), stone knives to cut the cattle, herbs that were said to heal wounds, and some food from home. The trip was fairly uneventful, as it was a short distance to go, but they were able to kill two huge bulls, and carry them back to camp.

It had been a week since the hunters left, and the villagers could see them returning in the distance. The first signs of Spring were also begininning to arrive. Birds from the east were migrating to the west and north, a sign of the immenent growing season. The villagers gathered together, and threw a feast with the meat the hunters had gathered.

Hi chieftess,

Stories are always fun. If the Cheoni are human, they most likely would have children stay in the same family tent, not in separate tents. If cattle were found they would be better off bringing them back to camp alive and whole. They are easy to lead and very heavy to carry. They have milk and could be trained to do some work as well. Although, hamburgers are great too. I'll have a cheeseburger from the cheese you can make from the milk.

It's still going on, just I haven't had a chance to continue it. My favorite aunt died last month, and I've been grieving (getting better now), plus the Civ4 forum kept me a little busy just before that.
