I wrote "I call all lovers of good strategy to join me!"

And the target group for the site are people who can understand the language, so I wrote it that way.

What language is that?

Croatian.

All south slavic languages (Serbian, Slovenian, Bosniak, Macedonian, Bulgarian) are very similar, so if you speak any of them you should feel right at home too. English speakers are also wellcome, but will have a hard time understanding what is going on ;)

Well I don't know any of them, so I can't join. Sorry.

Wait, don't most Slavic languages use the Cyrillic Alphabet?

Anyway, I may have to update my info but as far as I know Croatian and Serbian are the same language, the only difference being that Croatian uses the latin alphabet when Serbian use the cyrillic alphabet. :)

All Slavic languages have the same roots, and in fact all indoeuropean languages do.

The question is how much have they diverged from eachother over time. Croatian and Serbian didn't diverge much, but have diverged nonetheless. They developed independantly until 19th century, when efforts at unifying and standardizing them were made. Some voluntary, some not.

For practical purposes, if you are fluent in one, you'll have no trouble understanding the other, however, they are not completely the same, nor are their differences artificial.

So, Croatian is like a dialect of Serbian that uses the Roman alphabet?

Guys, pls post back on-topic i.e. regarding the Civ site, rather than about languages. Thanks.
