VENERABLE MONK TO CELEBRATE BIRTHDAY

Please join me in hoisting your beverage of choice in celebration of the venerable one's birthday. Said occassion does not take place until 3/16 but I thought I'd get an early start. This national holiday is typically celebrated by donning green undergarments and running amok on or with a cape. this year it will be celebrated to coincide with St. Patrick's Day.

I've been nerding out on space stuff lately. For those of you in the ~Middle East or Northern Africa.. There is a TOTAL elcipse (http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEmono/TSE2006/TSE2006.html)coming your way on March 29. I really wish that I could fly to North Africa or Turnkey to watch it. For those of us in North America, there is a Total Eclipse that will happen in Aug 21, 2017 (http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEplot/SEplot2001/SE2017Aug21T.GIF)that will cut across the US.

Also there is a big concern among amateur (and I presume professional) astronomers about light pollution. There is a website that is trying to get some reports about Orion and how many stars you can see in that constellation. Go to the GLOBE's website (http://www.globe.gov/GaN/index.html) and report how many stars you can see.

Pentium
Mar 24, 2006, 12:19 PM
Yeah, it's gonna be just above 50% here  .

The MIA build pattern is starting to p me off. The time has come to start gathering the clan for the war to end all wars.

This is for discussion, but how bout we put a couple of trebs into our border towns and then build the offensive forces?

MIA has had a free ride so far on the wars. Let's ask them to declare on TNT and then make peace with TNT in a PC manner.

Let's also, in a sweet lovable way, ask nuts what they want for war with MIA

TNT Practicing Biological warfare on the idiots:

Originally blogged by Tubs (sorta):

It was time to put youngling Rower to bed and Mrs. Rower went to get her some water. It's all a bit fuzzy but we noticed a HUGE wasp looking thing up by the fan. I told her to take the youngling and put her to bed (I was going to do it). I didn't let them get near the kitchen after I saw it. Youngling Rower has been bitten by a wasp already and she didn't even fuss. But this thing was monsterous and I didn't want to take any chances.

So after they were in the bedroom with the door closed and reading books, I started hunting for a can of bug spray. I never found it. So I started trying to figure out what to kill it with. I got the fly swatter and thought "well if this doesn't work I want something in my other hand". Then fell off the chair. So I got the dust pan out too and put it on my head for protection. So here I am in my kitchen with a flyswatter in one hand, a dustpan on my head and a huge bug on my fan. As I move closer my heart started getting faster because I noticed the wasp had neon yellow letters on it's back. After the thing took flight, my heart was racing because I saw the letters said Dinsog Bug Works.

I swatted at it with the swatter. Bah! It's like King Kong swatting at the airplanes, never would I hit him. After a quick offering to the Meleet, I remembered I killed half of a nest of carpenter bees (the size of bumble bees) when I put out our new mailbox. So I was in good form. I swung and with the first swing the collosus flew accross the room, hit the wall and landed on the floor. I used the dust pan to pin him down and looked at him. Then I broke him so he couldn't fly. I thought that I killed him and then I put him in a plastic bag just in case I didn't. As I type this the thing is trying to escape the bag. Anyway, I did some research on what my foe for this evening was and it turns out to be the Ovorp Hornet. It's the only true hornet native to the other continent.

Actually, this game began earlier than that. I found my original "I'm Here" post dated August 10, 2005. I believe we were already on turn 7 or 8, and I was as totally lost then as you feel now, jb. The answer is zero completed. :p

I think this is the first MTDG that K.I.S.S. has played as a team, and it seems like it was the first time ever for this type of game on CFC. I'm not sure if the idea originated at Apolyton with inter-site games. Whomp or Tubby could probably give you more background.

If you put game related stuff in it, they'd likely just lock the topic if it gets too spammy. If it has 51% relative matter I think that you are ok.

well i dunno why it got moved when it has been allowed elsewhere but i spoke to the mods about it and not heard much back yet.

I dunno why either. Some of my responses were definitely meant for this group to see only, like "inconceivable -----> birth control". And the stuff about my being born in 4001bc or 3500bc was just an inside joke for this group. I'm a bit embarrassed to have the whole board reading it.

@ gma, you can edit all of your responses and delete the text.... but whoever has read it... well we'll just kill them.

blame this on harriet for firing up the brain cell. my tooth also hurts.

Well, other than getting our posteriors whooped by MIA, we haven't done anything stupid in a really long time. therefore i suggest we adopt Tubby's avie for one day just to confuse people.

Tubs if you would kindly post the link?

We'll begin on or about 12:01 GMT on SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY (if everyone else thinks this is semi amusing) and continue for 24-48 or until rik, gm or rm get annoyed.

Thats a bad indication of my question...I know it's silly, but should I change my name to just "ansar"?

Mods: please delete if this is spam.

Well you can't spam but post what you'd like and we'll let Rik Meleet decide. We talk about a lot of junk as you can see.

1. These are discussions between teammates. these discussions build esprit d'corps.

2. I'd go with just Ansar.

gmaharriet
Aug 28, 2006, 10:21 PM
I agree with Bugs on both points. I like Ansar as a simple name to use, and nobody else has it.

So far as the esprit d'corps is concerned, the somewhat off-topic conversations bring me closer to my team mates. As I get to know the other members of our team better, I care more about them and how we fare as a group in the game. Just discussing builds or unit moves wouldn't likely accomplish that.

in the spirit of non-related questions....

Should I wear jeans or khakis to work? I have to wear long pants due to ... well I guess we're a manufacturing plant so I'm going with safety. Jeans are supremely comfortable after wearing them for 3+ days without washing and durable. Well-fitting khakis are comfortable but will get dirty more. Also they will force people to ask me "Who died?"

I was told by my 1st boss that it doesn't reflect well on me to wear hole-y tee-shirts that I got for giving blood in college so I have to wear a collared shirt. I was upset at this one.

sadly no... my favorite part of that article in wikipedia is Because of the fabric used and the cut of the pants, it has been cited that they are akin to "a crockpot for your pork."

Booti I stood in a wedding Sunday and the priest looked like that guy!

Man it must get hot under all that Holiness....then having to say stuff three times every time. Fortunately, the ceremony was only an hour. Pretty good by Greek Orthodox standards from what I understand.

Here is one of our teammates modeling a very stylish form of footwear for our intrepid band of idiots.

Due to the nudity and general lack of clothing, I cannot determine which teammate this is.

Would it be spoilerish to make Igor our Sec. of State work this picture into the official seal of all foreign treaties and make our diplomatic motto "Nuke 'em 'till they glow then shoot 'em in the dark"?
