I will probably check out the editor and make a map before I even play. Although the beta people will already have some good stuff made, I thought I would see if anyone wanted a map of something in particular. Although I will probably make a Europe map first of all. :mischief:

While in a Wal-Mart bathroom today silently sobbing about having to wait another day for Civ IV I came up with a POWERFUL map idea!

Grout Civilizations!

The map would consist of thin little strips of horizontal and vertical land going all the way across the map (grout) with vast square deep seas taking up most of the space (tiles).

I'm not well...

How about a Israel-Arab war(s) map. Israel, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon.

I've always wanted to play a 1974 Arab-Israeli war map/scenario. Bar Lev line fortifications. Arab dominance in armour numbers, anti tank missiles and mobile SAM's vs the superior Israeli air force and reserves.

I'm wanting a Californina map, So I can do stuff to it, and actually work on making a full mod, like I planed on doing for civ 3 but never got around to doing. If it is somehow possible to convert maps from civ3 to civ4, that would be lovely, because there is a link in my sig to one.

I like custom made random maps.

Not sure if this is a joke but being able to make random map scripts (the parameters for your random map) should be awesome! I'm hoping the Civ folk go as crazy as the AoE folk did with its random map community.

Here is confirmation from Firaxis:

[19:54] <+FIRAXIS_Trip> the scenarios that come with the game are: American Revolution, Greek World, Earth 1000 AD and Desert War WWII

[19:54] <+FIRAXIS_Trip> there are some maps that went in also

[19:54] <+FIRAXIS_Trip> I made a map of Europe and other ones like South America and Africa

They may have a world map, but do they have one with correct civ placement? Can someone make one with cities, usually it turns out that spread out civs have an extreme advantage over bunched up ones, but with the new strategy and with cities costing money it might turn out differantly...

I think a British Isle map would be pretty cool, and an Africa map would be pretty nice.

I think Rhye, who's famour for his Civ3 mod, has been invited by Firaxis to make his own world map (which is supposed to be included with the game). According to Rhye, that world map will have a slightly enlarged Europe, but the oceans will still be better respects than its Civ3 mod. As such, it's supposed to not have a thin Pacific ocean as in Rhye's mod (he made it so to optimize the memory).

I have no confirmation that Rhye's Civ4 map will indeed be included though.

Any chance you can take a long map from spain to china but cutting off after northafrica and england? kind of keeping the roman borders but allowing for a what-if alex scenario in china or roman empire versus china (and a little india too)

thanks,

I'd love to see a generic, huge, real world map without any development but with proper starting and resource locations. There are no such maps included with the game (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3214031&postcount=3) unless I missed something.

*Chant* WORLD MAP, WORLD MAP, WORLD MAP *chant* large and with correct starting locations for all the civs. Some developers can be such idiots, leaving that out of all things! Sheesh!

I like that idea, especially the Alexander part, but could you have a little bit of England (up to Londen) and Japan?

Also, I would enjoy a American Revolution and/or a Civil War Mod!

Thanks!

Can we put to rest this notion that "world maps" in the form those of us that are asking for them want are in the game? Because they are not (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3214031&postcount=3).

Most definitely. IIRC, Mr. Black made a similiar scenario for Civ III.

A world-map with real-world civ placement, says I.
Agreed. This is the only way that I like to play.

another vote for a HUGE realistic world-map. i just tried playing as the japanese on the pathetic world map that was included and found its impossible to even squeeze 3 cities on the island without sharing tiles with another city. other people maybe happy with a handful of cities but im of the opinion that a civ game is no good unless each civ has at least a dozen good sized cities to its name.
