View Full Version : Anyone have a map of the world? fmweiler Oct 26, 2005, 01:08 PM Just wondering if anyone has or is working on a Map of the world yet. Thanks FM TreeFoot Oct 26, 2005, 01:22 PM WELCOME TO CIVFANATICS CENTER! and i think a map of the world is included with the game. tdpatriots12 Oct 26, 2005, 02:29 PM WELCOME TO CIVFANATICS CENTER! and i think a map of the world is included with the game. The following maps are included with the game as scenarios, and as someone who prefers to play on BLANK huge world maps (with the right starting locations and resource of course) these will not do: - A large world map 1000 AD scenario which has development already and limited choices for civs - A localized "World" map that includes mostly Central Europe, Africa, and Western Asia, which isn't a full world map - An ice age map that doesn't resemble Earth at all - A few other maps and scenarios that are otherwise not a blank world map w/ the stuff listed above I'd love to see someone make one like the ones made by third parties for Civ3. Fox Mccloud Oct 26, 2005, 03:49 PM Someone should remake Teturkhan's map (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=29279) For Civ4. :D Ekmek Oct 26, 2005, 04:20 PM ... as someone who prefers to play on BLANK huge world maps (with the right starting locations and resource of course) ... isnt that a big chunk of the community. I know I'm one so I'm just shocked this wasnt included. i thought they learned from the civ3 mistakes (IIRC the first box didnt have earth at all!) bman003 Oct 26, 2005, 06:48 PM Yea I'm dissapointed I wanted a map with starting locations for all the civs. And all this civs on one map! NateDawgNY Oct 26, 2005, 07:28 PM Someone should remake Teturkhan's map (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=29279) For Civ4. :D An excellent idea. tbear2520 Oct 27, 2005, 11:42 PM Actually all the maps listed above are complete. Scroll in and out and move left to right. When you zoom in you free up memory and then move left and zoom out this will display some more of the map. Using this on my XPS Gen4 system with 256 PCIx nvidia gforce 6800 ultra and 1gig of memory I could but still had to do this which was pretty frustrating. But the maps of Earth are all complete. See the thread about First MOD to post. It has a rapidshare link to Earth with additional Civ's in it. Basically it combines two parts of Earth for a better Earth. gunburned Oct 28, 2005, 01:11 AM Someone should remake Teturkhan's map (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=29279) For Civ4. :D YES THAT WAS THE BEST EVER! HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING How are you supose to remake a map of the world when you cannot put that many cities into the game anymore??? I dont even think the maps can be big enough. paulnath Oct 28, 2005, 08:54 AM Darn... that TETURkhan map was AMAZING. Do you guys know that I was discouraged to play Civ3 upon seeing and learning that no Civ2-like world/earth map (where you have an adjusted Great Britain and Japan to sustain these island civs, and hitorically/politically correct starting locations and accurately-placed resources) was originally bundled with it? I just realized now (that Civ4 is out and upon seeing this nice forum) that someone actually filled that crucial vacuum for Civ3 with a very well done earth map (TETURkhan's). *SIGH* Civ4's blank earth map is pretty well done, too--IT'S JUST THAT: I'm again frustrated because not all of the civs can be chosen in the Earth scenario... WHY OH WHY? =( Does anyone have or share the below DEMAND SPECIFICATIONS of mine? 1. Blank Earth Map (adjusted in such a way each civ can be sustained for a reasonable number of turns--crucial for britain and japan) 2. NOT only SOME, BUT ALL Civs can be chosen (I've always wanted to play America--you know, dreaming of dominating the Americas as the rest of the world powers squabble for the old world; i'd later on intervene/interfere, heheh...) 3. The rival or AI civs will be randomly selected so as to add surprise flavor to the game (of course, their starting locations would still be politically correct) 4. Map can/will contain the maximum number of players possible in Civ4 WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT... Anyone else who shares my vision/demand? Or does Civ4 already has this, and I just overlooked it? *PS* What's the maximum number of cities per game? homegrown Oct 28, 2005, 08:59 AM Rhye's Earth map is available under Scenarios. It only has 7 civs, and all start in Europe/Asia with the "New World" being controlled by barbarians. A creative and industrious modder could add in additional start points. paulnath Oct 28, 2005, 09:07 AM Any "creative and industrious" modder out there who can fill this vacuum? I really can't start playing Civ4 all because of this limitation *sigh* Sorry really demanding... Tinkering with the editor was somehow dizzying =/ *PS* Rhye's Earth map was pretty neat, it just fell short of demand spec #s 2, 3, and 4 (described above) Rhye Oct 28, 2005, 11:41 AM I will do the work. The standard release had to contain ancient civs only, but my map was designed to be able to contain up to all 18 civs, though a bit tight. Rhye Oct 28, 2005, 11:44 AM - An ice age map that doesn't resemble Earth at all That's how Earth was :) tdpatriots12 Oct 28, 2005, 11:45 AM I will do the work. My map was designed to be able to contain up to all 18 civs, but the standard release had to contain ancient civs only. Fantastic work on the map btw. Interesting decision by the powers about only certain ancient civs though... Thanks in advance for taking on this workload, like the above poster my Civ4 playing is pretty much dependent on maps like the kind outlined in earlier posts. tdpatriots12 Oct 28, 2005, 11:50 AM That's how Earth was :) Oh I know, plus when I wrote that I hadn't discovered how to do a total zoom-out in the builder yet - but what I meant to say was more along the lines of "that doesn't resemble the Earth map I want to play on" at all. The 1000 AD map is perfect apart from the existing development and limited choices for civs, is all I really wanted to get across ;) Rhye Oct 28, 2005, 11:57 AM here it is I had told you, it was already designed, so it was quick ;) http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=134245 Oldomil Nov 08, 2008, 12:39 PM but there could be only one leader per civilization. How can I play for Bismarck, or Napoleon? thanks JEELEN Nov 08, 2008, 01:16 PM Those are easy: open the WBS (Worldbuildersave file) with Notepad, replace the leaderheads listed with BISMARCK, NAPOLEON or both. Save as WBS and you have a custom made map. Wolfshanze Nov 08, 2008, 01:19 PM but there could be only one leader per civilization. How can I play for Bismarck, or Napoleon? thanks Open-up the scenario's save-game file in notepad and change the leader name... it's that simple. Rhye Nov 08, 2008, 07:46 PM wow, 3-years long bump MadmanOfALeader Nov 12, 2008, 07:22 PM I've been looking for a map of the world with random leaders on random starting locations... you know, have Gilgamesh capable of starting on any square on the map. deanej Nov 13, 2008, 07:13 PM Thats actually easy to make. Simply make a copy of one of the earth maps that ship with the game in notepad and copy the player and team data from the vanilla Ice Age map over the player/team data for the map you copied and save the file. If you did everything right you should be able to pick any civ/leader and start at a random location. |
