I haven’t seen much about what file formats Civ4 uses other then they said something about “Studio Max”, although I do currently have access to 3D Studio Max and Maya, I may not always and most people here can’t afford them (including some of the best).
GMax is a free game modding version of 3DSMax and I think they should make a plug-in for Civ4.
What do you think?

What would the Civ4 plug-in do?
Well, this also raises the question of how exactly do we go about making Civ4 units GMax, 3DS Max or otherwise? I mean, I know how to make models in 3DS Max, but what I don't know is what one does after that to get the units into the game... I also don't know how I'd go about making some kind of skin or texture map for a 3DS file (I've always exported as .obj for animating in Poser).

gmax was cancelled and will no longer be supported or available. Not enough game companies were willing to pay the 50k to get an export module made to warrant Autodesk supporting it any further.
