View Full Version : Floodplain graphic shows up in the fog playshogi Oct 26, 2005, 02:33 PM Obviously, this shouldn't happen. My video card is Gforce4 MX420 with the latest driver. Mercade Oct 26, 2005, 03:47 PM Can you show a screenshot with the foodplain in the fog? What map are you playing? Random, preselected, etc? Can you post a save game that shows this behaviour? If you quit and reload the same game, does it show again or is it a random fluke? This is the type of information that would help the creators to track the bug. playshogi Oct 26, 2005, 05:14 PM I'm playing a standard, pangea, with natural (?) coastline. If I reload, it's still there. The floodplain is the splotch in the upper left. 101781 Distraction Oct 26, 2005, 06:22 PM I have that problem too. GeForce 440 MX. Bugs bugs bugs... The Beastmaster Oct 26, 2005, 07:16 PM I just started the tutorial... and have seen the same thing... and YES, I have the same GeForce4 440 MX video card. It's obviously not a game killing major bug, but it is surprising. What version of Forceware Driver are you using? I'm currently using the old 56.72 version. Eastian Oct 26, 2005, 07:49 PM I'm glad to know you got the game working at least! I thought my GeForce 4 MX wouldn't make it... anyways, still at least a week to wait for getting the game. playshogi Oct 26, 2005, 08:09 PM For my card, I had to download the latest driver, because the game wouldn't work prior to that. For some reason, you have to uninstall your current driver and virus programs, before installing the new driver. I'd think that installing a new driver would automatically uninstall the old driver. SlayerofDeitys Oct 27, 2005, 06:42 AM I saw the same thing but I have a Nividia, for me though when you zoom in or out it goes away. Distraction Oct 27, 2005, 05:46 PM I just rememberd that when I upgraded my video driver, the water in Battlefield 1942 turned a radiation green. Perhaps that particular shade of blue is used on the floodplains and is causing something really wierd to happen? Comraddict Oct 27, 2005, 08:17 PM I know cause for this bug. It is not driver problem, but Firaxis coding. GF4MX cards lack pixel shaders (not required but recommended for CIV IV). This game renders incorrectly parts that are supposed to be drawn with pixel shaders. Yep I have GF4MX Go, and same thing. Shepherdboy Oct 27, 2005, 10:27 PM I see the same think on my laptop with a Radeon Mobility 9000. Shepherdboy jened Oct 28, 2005, 10:41 AM same here - geforce4 mx420, windows 2000 advanced server spopeblue Oct 28, 2005, 05:31 PM Exact same thing happens to me, Geforce MX4000, running latest Nvidia drivers. I figured it was something related to pixel shaders. Weird thing was, when I first launched Civ IV, it told me my pc was below the reccomended requirements. I am running Athlon 64 3000+, 512mb, XP w/SP2, loads of hard disk. It then turned all the graphics settings down to low. I turned them all back up to high, and haven't any slowdown issues at all until I got to fairly late in the game, and even then, my turns were taking about 1/10th the time the Civ III did. mash Oct 28, 2005, 07:03 PM It seems that those of use with this flood plain problem also have another simultanuous problem: the terrain squares show only food, no hammers or coins. If all you of you can confirm this then it's probably a card problem. the image posted above has only food as you can see. check out this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=133141 Chieftess Oct 28, 2005, 07:06 PM Hmm, is that on the edge of the map? (i.e., the seam) Explore a bit and see if you can see any other foliage on the seam of the map. Distraction Oct 28, 2005, 07:16 PM Nah, at least with my copy it has nothing to do with the seam. Everywhere there's a floodplain it shows up. And yeah, I have the toast-only city screen too. I swear, I'll never buy another game from Take2 again. mash Oct 28, 2005, 07:32 PM initially I really wanted to support this game, but not buying it was the best decision I made. When I pay a lump of money, I expect that someone did the testing before releasing the game instead of having me waste my time on forums and emails trying to get a patch released. This is ridiculous. And it's clear that many people have complaints. Perikles Oct 29, 2005, 11:50 AM I'm having the same issue + the only-shows-food bug. I have a geforce 2 card, which should run the game according to the requirements. conehead234 Oct 29, 2005, 12:45 PM Same problem with only food being displayed. Chieftess Oct 29, 2005, 01:33 PM Same problem with only food being displayed. Someone posted that in another thread. It's a video card problem. Read the stickied threads on the forums and find out how to fix it. (Civ4 General Discussions and Tech Support) mash Oct 29, 2005, 02:10 PM Someone posted that in another thread. It's a video card problem. Read the stickied threads on the forums and find out how to fix it. (Civ4 General Discussions and Tech Support) I can't seem to find that thread... Are you saying someone actually found the solution? does anyone know what Chieftess is talking about? Perikles Oct 29, 2005, 03:37 PM I can't find it either. conehead234 Oct 29, 2005, 03:45 PM Cheiftess, I tried that but it didn't work. batteryacid Oct 30, 2005, 09:51 AM Got also the toast only city screen, additionally I have white terrain with agp disabled and the black terrain with agp enabled; made the newest driver / art0.fpk trick; didn´t help. I know about this toast city screen trouble from users of GF440, 420, 460, GF2, ATI mobility 7500 (which I have) as well as other Radeons, and the game is UNPLAYABLE with this bug, because City Management is impossible. I am really (as well as my friends) upset about this bug since nearly every laptop in use has one of these graphic cards (did they any beta tests by the way??).  Newest drivers (ATI or omegadrivers) won´t help either. mash Oct 30, 2005, 09:56 AM I'm sure this can be easily fixed with a fix or patch but the question is how long are we going to have to wait? |
