i cannot start the game after installation because i keep getting a message box that says:

Cannot locate the CD-ROM

CD/DVD emulation software has been detected. Please disable all CD/DVD emulation software and re-start the game.

i went into alcohol and disabled my virtual drive and emulation. as far as i know, i don't have any other emulation software on my computer, thoguh i've checked all my burning/media software anyway.

i'd prefer it if i didn't have to start uninstalling programs.

there is also nothing processes running that relate to this. just normal windows stuff, anti-virus, anti-spyware. i know where every process is coming from and what they do. so it's not even something i'm running.

help?

thanks!

I find the fact they want me to delete programs that I use daily very offensive. So my nice special edition disks are going into the desk, and I'm d/l'ing a crack now. Thanks for your wonderful copy protection scheme guys -- it keeps a legitimate user from running the game. But it sure slowed down those crackers (not).

I have Alcohol installed on my system, and so does my husband, and neither of us had problems with it - although it's not something I keep running all the time (I don't think my husband does either).

Hmmm... If this is the case, it should be listed in the system requirements that you cant have such things installed.

A firaxian said they weren't using starforce. So are they now using some custom invasive crap? My pre-order is on the way but I was planning to return it unopened if it had starforce. Now I have to wonder if they are installing invasive drivers anyways.

I just installed last night- Runnning Daemon Tools- (no- I paid good money for civ 4... I support good games by voting with my wallet)

It didn't give me any problems and runs fine.

I had the same exact problem with civ3 complete. Never did solve it, and just uninstalled alcohol 120 on that particular computer.

I was getting this error too, now that I uninstalled CD CLone as advised by someone else here I can now load the game without this stupid error msg.

Firaxis really should forewarn us of such practices. Making us install perfectly legal software in order to run your games is only a hassle for us paying loving fans of your games.

Get SafeDisk 4 Hider, I've tested it, it fixed my problem. (Yes, I own the damn game).

My problem seems to be greater  :it didn't work (and yes, I do have a legally purchased version of the game!)
