Is there something I need to do to access online games? It will not allow me to create a new account. Is this a problem that others are having too?

Quite a few people are having the problem. It won't let most users log in or create a new account. I believe we are stuck until a patch arrives.

new to all of this... not a big gamer but I've always been a huge civ fan since the first one. The 'patch' /fix we'll have to download.....where will we get that?

Then it's not just me.

Gamespy Arcade won't even recognize Civ 4 on my system, in addition to the game crashing my comp everytime I try to log on (I had to download the gamespy client to start an account).

I couldn't open a new account unless I used my old gamespy e-mail, name and password login. Also make sure the gamespy e-mail address is verified. At first I tried to uses a different password than my gamespy login password but it didn't work so the password had to be the same too. Try this and see if it works.

Tried using my old GameSpy account and it still wouldn't let me log in. Know everything is correct as far as username and password.... Just some thoughts,,,i'm behind a wireless router, would that keep me from logging on?? New to all of this,,, thx for the help!

Just went back and reread your post....."I"M IN!!!!!!!!" Need to go to create new account.... enter all old stuff in..... I'll be damn.... I knew all the reading comprehension would pay off when i got older...and all the other kids in grade school didn't believe me.... THX for your help!!!!

Bumping this thread because I still can't get it working... When i try to login, i get "The Login Attempt Has Failed" regardless of the data I enter or whether it's in Create New Account or Login. I opened all the required ports; still nothing. Any clues?

And the information you are trying to input is account info from a gamespy account you already have?

Yep. I verified my e-mail address, still no luck. I even downloaded gamespy arcade to see if that would help, but no dice.

When I tried to create an account it would say failed, but it turns out it actually does create it. Like some of you guys the game use to crash to desktop when I tried to login.

I checked my firewall and it looks like Gamespy uses a whole buncho ports, after I opened them up I could get into the lobby no probs. The ports are

6667 (IRC)
13139 (used to connect to peers after your into the lobby)
27900
28910
29900 (not sure what the last 3 do, but they all go to the gamespy servers. I'm guessing authentication).

hmm the problem is even with my firewall down ... login still fails

i had the same problem! the solution is to put your nick password an e-mail in the ''create new account''

i have to open port 6667? :\ My school blocks that one i think, will i never be able to play online?

This won't work becuase it really doesn't matter what u put in the login screen or the new account screen it still doesn't work i have tried this and it doesn't work :D but glad at lest fixed your problem :)

opening port 6667 may fix it butif it's the same problem as alot of us are having then the fact is ports are the problem.

WTf why u trying to play it at schoool lol proberly load and loads of firewalls in different departments of education that would block the game's ports from working

even if you fix the problem though i doubt if you can play a single game in gamespy! i have started almost 20 games and none of them finished! most of them didnt even start
