View Full Version : Weired game....
Brota Oct 27, 2005, 11:10 PM 9 Civ on Large Map. I played as the Chinese.
China - Hindu
Germany - Judaism
India - Christian
France - Confuouis
Russia -Hindu
America - Islam
Arabia - Taoism
Japan - Islam
England - Islam

The Caltrop Oct 27, 2005, 11:41 PM How is that wierd? The only thing even remotely humourous is the Germany=Judaism... but that would be promoting a stereotype against Germans.
So... I'm confused.
chinesefireball Oct 28, 2005, 03:58 AM America - Islam
i did laugh at that one
Kamilian Oct 28, 2005, 10:17 PM I think he means that it seemed pretty weird to have Japan be Islamic and Arabia be Taoist, and so on and so forth. When you look at them in the real-life, the religions and countries that matched in his game don't match at all.
Maybe he was expecting the religions to be a bit more culturally-affixed as well (such as Japan will [i]not[/b] get Islam so early or Arabia will have the Islamic faith spreading in it faster or something like that)
silver 2039 Oct 28, 2005, 10:38 PM Yes that would have been good. Of course the developers obivously lack the foresight to do that....and I hear that Civ 4 is'nt very moddable either.
The Caltrop Oct 28, 2005, 10:50 PM Civ 4 isn't about realism. I mean, where in world history has an empire exsisted for more than 1500 years, let alone 6000? And with immortal leaders? Etc.
Civ is not a history sim, it is a strategy game with historical elements. It was not a lack of foresight that allows this: it is simply all in the game's design.
Traxis Oct 28, 2005, 11:43 PM and I hear that Civ 4 is'nt very moddable either.
It is WAAAAY more moddable than any of the previous civ games.

When units, buildings, graphic terrains, scenarios and mods start coming out then I'll believe that. Until then...we'll just have to wait and see won't we?

The greek states have existed for more than 2000 years. Egypt existed since beginning of civilization. You can argue about when byzantine actually become their own civilization but they come out pretty close to 1500 years. China, of course, has existed since the Shang dynasty since 16th B.C. Japan also exceeds 1500 years. India also lasted for more than 1500 years.
I guess the longetivity of an empire isn't the best argument for Civ 4 not being realistic. I'd say it is very realistic in this respect.

I kind of miss the simple world editor in civ 3, I could have easily generate a map a mod a super city location for a 1 city challenge in Sid level. Now I can't really do that anymore.
Red Door Oct 29, 2005, 05:56 AM i had Arabia-Judaism in my current game.

I said MORE than 1500. Let alone 6000 years of history.
Greece and Egypt have constantly been parts of other empires, China's dynasties were, in effect, separate kingdoms entirely. India has NEVER been a fully unified state (the Mauryan Empire lasted what, 200 years? And even then it didn't even close to have control of all the 'Indian' nations around it).
Empires do not last for 6000 years.
Furthermore, stop being a know-it-all. Civ is not a realistic game. The religions are in it only for their strategic value in diplomacy. That was the main gist of my previous post.
TreeFoot Oct 29, 2005, 09:05 PM it's actaully the most moddable civ yet... if you don't mind tampering with the game and you know XML and Python (let's see how many leaders each civ REALLY can have...)
Civfan333 Nov 02, 2007, 04:57 PM That's so funny. The Arabian-taoism and the America-Islam.     :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
rabidveggie Nov 05, 2007, 11:28 AM I find it odd that the most wide spread religion is Islam. That shows up way to late for that to usually happen, and no Buddhists? Strange indeed.
Patricman Nov 05, 2007, 02:33 PM Normally Im lucky if ANYONE gets Islam. But those countries getting it is a very odd coincidence. Unless of course, you lied and just said those things to draw attention to yourself. ever thought of that. JK
Gooblah Nov 06, 2007, 02:12 PM Strange. I assume "Choose Religions" was on, but wahtever..
The only "strange" religious choice I've had was a Christian India and a Hindu Rome.
Krick19 Nov 08, 2007, 01:34 PM lol major thread resurrection
Civfan333 Nov 13, 2007, 04:20 PM Yeah. I was bored so I decided to post on this one.
