View Full Version : No Wonder Videos
fpstream Oct 28, 2005, 06:19 AM The game runs fine, but every time I build a wonder the video is very glitchy. I can hear the music but the video I can't even see. It's covered with the black and green square thing. It's not a graphics card issue, I know that for sure. Just got a bad disk? Thanks.
WarDoggie Oct 28, 2005, 06:42 AM For me, I see the video fine, but the sound is very glitchy. Weird...
fpstream Oct 28, 2005, 06:57 AM So if we put both our disks in at the same time, it will be fine! It has to work...
Bast Oct 28, 2005, 07:09 AM I hate this game already.
fpstream Oct 28, 2005, 10:26 AM It's a great game, and that's my only issue. Even the religion "videos" are fine. The start-up is bad though.
adv_dp_fan Oct 28, 2005, 11:16 AM I have the same problem, sometimes. In the current game, sometimes I get the green garbage and sometimes I get the video. Sometimes the leaders video plays and sometimes it's just a black or red square. Other than that the game plays fine. Using an ATI 9600 XT video card.
sfuller Oct 28, 2005, 11:52 AM Have to add that I have this same issue. Check out my machine:
Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe, AthlonX2 4200+ via XP 120, Corsair XMS 2x1g2xHitachi RAID0, MSI NX7800GTX
Hmmm. I'm crushing HL2, FEAR (well, kind of), COD2. Running 82.87 on x64 XP. Downloaded new codecs.
Seems to me that the Bink Codec is messed up. Working on it tonight. Maybe someone got it fixed before. Can't be the only people with this issue.
clubber2k Oct 28, 2005, 07:07 PM I had that error along with the rivers turning black
I've updated my geforce drivers and set anti-aliasing to 0
looks the same but works better wounder movies too of course :)
try turning anti-aliasing to 0
sfuller Oct 28, 2005, 07:12 PM AA=0 but no dice with the wonder movies, I'm using the startup movie to gauge if the movies work. Still sucks.
ron_stalker Feb 05, 2006, 09:41 AM Here is how I solved my problem:
Find file called CivilizationIV.ini. This is a plain text file with some game settings. I would make a back up copy of the file just in case something goes wrong.
Then find the following sections :
; Don't skip frames if falling behind
BinkNoSkip = 1
; Copy entire image each frame, not just dirty pixels
BinkCopyAll = 0
; Show movies using hi-color, not true-color (may be faster)
Bink16Bit = 1
; Copy ever other scanline during movie playback (faster)
BinkInterlace = 0
I have these options set in this way and the video started working. Well, except for the opening scene but still it was not too bad.
If it is still bad try to set BinkNoSkip=0 . this should help.
Zanmato Feb 05, 2006, 10:00 AM Green garbage sounds like a driver issue or the card isn't getting enough power. The setting in the ini file that Ron gave so help the movies play correct but it isn't a sure thing. Turning the AA off in the video card control panel rather than the game settings might help also. There are also some low-res movies in the pipeline which should help those still having issues. All movies play perfectly on here since upgrading the card and power supply.
Inspector Javert Feb 06, 2006, 11:19 PM My only problem is that when a wonder starts it will play for awhile then just stop. Everything else goes on but the video ain't workin'
Oh and by the way is Dr. Spock supposed to narrate the begning of each era or is it just supposed to be a still.
