Hi folks. I hope it is not too much to ask. But I am sure there are plenty of folsk like me reading these forums who have no idea what OOC or MAD suicide 1V1 mean (those are just examples)

I would greatly appreciate if you could give a little description of what your SG is all about, I know I have that problem with all of them except a couple that have had explanation sposted in the first post. Many thanks in advance.

Hiya Eyemaze, and welcome to the succession games side of civfanatics.

If you have any question on a specific game, don't be afraid to just jump into that thread and ask. The SG community is very friendly to newbies, as a rule.

OCC = one-city challenge. You play the whole game with only one city. Similarly, 3CC or 5CC. A big challenge in Civ3, but in Civ4? Yet to be known, except by the beta testers, no doubt. :)

Things like MAD or LOTR or RB in the title of a succession game are usually an acronym representing the succession game series in question. For example, in Civ3, LKendter ran over one hundred succession games. They were listed as LK1, LK2 and so forth. Most of those acronyms are based on the forum name of the person running the game (Arathorn calls his the LOTR (Lord of the Rings) series, for example, and LK is obvious), but a few, like the RB series, are based on something else. (Realms Beyond is a separate gaming community that happens to also run succession games here.)

Stick around for a while and you'll figure it out.

Hi Eyemaze,
Here's a list of acronyms people use for Civ3. I'm sure some will change for Civ4 as we go like AWN (all war noble).

Umm.... what IS a succession game?
A small group of members, usually ~6 or so, decide to take turns playing a single game. Most commonly, the 1st player will take about 20 turns (not much happens that early in the game), and then the other players take ~10 turns each "in succession". By the time everyone has played their set of turns and it comes back to you again, about another 50 turns have been played.

There is usually one person who sponsors the game, but often all the players discuss which Civ they'd like to be, what victory condition, type of map to be played, etc. During the game, they discuss what strategies and tactics might work best. With everyone giving their ideas and advice, an individual is usually able to play a level or two higher than they can on their own.

After each set of turns, the save file is uploaded to the thread for the next player to download, often some pics, and notes (turnlogs) on what happened during their turns and suggestions for the next player. It can be a lot of fun to share a game and interesting for non-players to just read. :)
