View Full Version : MP Hard to Run - Anyone Else Dealing w/ This?
FattyLumpkin Oct 28, 2005, 09:16 AM Single player runs fine...Not counting the lock-ups. However, that is not the case for multi-player. I have started a MP game a couple times just to check it out and its unplayable due to lag-type movement. It's as if I'm connected to another server with a ping of 500! Anyone else having this problem? Am I missing something?
I have a cable modem and other MP games are fine. Thx.
Cyan Winters Oct 28, 2005, 10:02 PM I'm having the same problem.
Single player works fine but all Multiplayer games I've joined I lag horribly and cannot play.
I have a GeForce6800 and am behind a router..
FattyLumpkin Oct 29, 2005, 08:49 AM My system (below) is on a cable modem and also behind a router. This is troublesome since I planned to play this with a friend...and can not currently do that.

mabusciv Oct 29, 2005, 11:20 AM The multiplayer is simply awfull to get off the ground. I spent a good hour today trying to join any game. Everyone is complaining about it
Cyan Winters Oct 29, 2005, 11:29 AM Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this? It seems the majority of people that can log in can play fine. I was in Teamspeak with a group of 8 people and I was the only one unable to play due to this lag issue.
Kevinicus Oct 29, 2005, 11:34 AM I couldn't connect to GameSpy but I could play Direct Connect and that was quite fluent.
Nothingman Oct 29, 2005, 01:30 PM I had a couple of friends over last night and we played a 3 player lan game with 4 computer opponents fine. Well, by fine I mean no worse than single player graphic lag and multiple crashes to desktop.

I have not tried a LAN yet but will. My attempt was to host a multiplayer internet game. Tried agian and it was just unplayable...and no one else even joined :)
Cyan Winters Oct 30, 2005, 09:35 AM Well I installed SP2 and restarted and the problem was fixed for one game. Then I went to join another and the problem was back.
I think it may have to do with internet/gamespy games and I'm going to try a direct IP or LAN game today.
Edit: LAN games had the same problem. No end in sight :(

HUFF...Well, I'm going to try and get my friend to join with direct IP and see what happens. Will post results.
enchanter100 Oct 30, 2005, 03:21 PM Piece of cake, Opened up port 2056 TCP and UDP on my router. My friend who lived across town did this also. Finally, my wife's computer was on my network so it didn't matter. I started the Direct Connect game and they all joined by typing in the routers ip addy (the port is forwarded to my computers local IP addy). We played for over 3 hours without a single hitch and there was no lag at all.. Send me an email if you need help with routers and ports.
TheeLord Oct 31, 2005, 03:21 AM Goto your router's settings and add your IP to the DMZ setting if its too hard to open up the ports for you.
Cyan Winters Oct 31, 2005, 06:49 PM The only thing I have gotten to work is lowering my settings. That seemed to work as long as you don't minimize out. That sucks because in a turn-based gam e I like to minimize out and do stuff while waiting for others.
But then I tried again (with my IP in the DMZ thing) tonight and no dice, even on low settings.
I'm about to give up and wait for a patch.
Alistic Nov 03, 2005, 09:37 AM I find that once someone quits there is an endless stream of joiners who dont know their joining a game in progress. Its like for the rest of the game your just watching people join, realize its an in progress game, then leave.
