I found a neat touch yesterday. Instead of building a wonder to get the +1 naval movement, you get it if you are the first to actually have a ship circle the globe. I sent a ship to explore out east, and I eventually got back to my land to the west and got the message. Sort of how CTP did it.

I knew about refrigeration giving the bonus, but didn't know that circling the globe first gave a bonus as well. I wonder if its only for the first player? I suppose I will find out, as I am sure there will be games where I do not make it first.

Yes, it's only the first player. If it's not you, you should get a message about it anyway.
