Ok, here's a mod I completed:

UPDATE: I'm not going to update this mod here anymore- too much time, so you can always grab it from this thread at APOLYTON:

It's updated now 29 OCT 05

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=4093957&t=4900#post4093957

OLD text below:
Based on the NORMAL game setting (select that when playing). I'm not trying to change CIV in any major ways but wanted a few things to be better...

Adds 25% cost to all techs to slow those down a bit.
Adds 25% to the game length too; I made it proportional.

So game length is 515 turns (about +115 or so turns longer than normal was).

So what you should see is that you get amore units in each era (but not too many more), and more TIME in each era.

Other changes (ALL SHOW UP ON TECH TREE, so don't worry about remembering):

Made Fission reveal Uranium NOT physics:
Why? because the stupid AI will trade Uranium and mine it before it can USE it! -sigh- So that's fixed.

WINERIES possible with POTTERY:
Why? Well, duh!

COTTAGES NOT possible until Monarchy (was Pottery):
The economy heats up too fast too early otherwise. I figure you need a slighty betetr knowledge of civics before you have suburbs.

SPY & SCOTLAND YARD available with NATIONALISM:
Why? Because waiting until communism SUCKS.... and besides the plans for textile mills were stolen by "spies" in real life back in the 1700's or so... I figure an earlier tech should get you spies.

MAP TRADING with ASTRONOMY not with paper:
Why? Because I want larger black spots on the map a little longer... give my sailing ships something to DO!

TECH TRADING with PAPER not with Alphabet.
I think you need a place to write things down on betetr than clay tablets... and I want tech trading put off a little longer too. I may change this to Guilds since that makes seense too.

GREAT LIBRARY with ALPHABET not literature:
because alphabet needed something and because literature is NOT what was in the great library in real life- it was scientific texts and philosophy, etc... too.

CLEAR JUNGLE with MEDICINE not from the start:
Because jungles are FIERCE scary DANGEROUS places, damnit! It was medicine that allowed the panama canal clearing of jungle, no amount of slaves dieing in great numbers could do it! So jungles stay on the map until the 1800's or so... nice. :)

DRY DOCKS with ENGINEERING not with steel.
Shipbuilding is an ancient art really, and the concept of dry docks goes back to greece... so we'll compromise- this allows more sailing ships to enter the game if you want to focus that way.

I think that's it... just some minor changes along with the BIG focus: SLOW DOWN TECH and enjoy eras longer.

Well, everyone who uses it, please provide feedback on the experience- I'm particularly keen to balance:

That the year count seems to about match your level of tech.

That you get enough time to play in and enjoy each level of tech advancement, so that technology no longer rushes past in a blur.

And any problems with how things play out due to the changes.

I'll make the proportional adjustments to EPIC and QUICK game paces too once I've got the NORMAL level working right.

Rember this mod ONLY WORKS for NORMAL pace for right now.

Thank you sir!

I have to admit I was getting a bit bored - I'll admit I am learning to play, but it does seem that the techs fly by yet you cannot build units or buildings fast enough. (Noble Level, Epic speed).

I will certainly give this a try this weekend!
