They're good for goody hut hunt, science and culture. I hope you're not stuck in an island; otherwise, you'll lose the expansionist advantage. How about some pictures for those of us following the game progress.
Good Luck!
Ohwell Jan 04, 2002, 07:30 PM Yeah, I am following this game too, because Russia is my second favorite civ(I bet you can guess the first). Those Cossacks rock! Anyway, long live Muscovy!
LKendter Jan 04, 2002, 11:00 PM Lee's first order is to will the animators :lol
Second order - Moscow is to build the Colusus. I don't want the granary, as I want to see the pyramids.
2950 BC - Worker reverses direction.
2900 BC - Working begins mining near Moscow. We are in depostism, and the irragation is a waste at this point.
2670 BC - We find an empty village :(
2630 BC - St. Petersburg finishes the warrior, and starts a settler.
2470 BC - I realize why I am so confused, and wait at end of turn is ON.
2150 BC - My final turn, and I spot the English. We buy Alphabet for an expensive $80, and $2/turn. However, I can't argue with a chance to improve science this early. We also know that we are not alone.
Summary - Moscow finishes Colossus in 3 turns, and Masonary finishes in 3 turns. You can immediately start the Pyramids. Settler in St. Petersburg in 5 turns, so you get to build a city.
BrianJ Jan 05, 2002, 07:04 AM Year 2150: Despot Brianov takes the Russian throne.
Brianov reviews the land, and notices several things.
1. the land is small. (I'm used to playing on large/huge maps!)
2. we need more military. immediately switches from Colossus to Warrior. (Just kidding Lee, heh)
3. an Alemanni barbarian appears next to our settler on my first turn. Moves him to safety.
4. above mentioned Barbarian will kill our worker in 2 turns unless we protect him.
5. Brianov has developed a disturbing habit of referring to himself in the 3rd person.
Year 2110:
After 40 years of deliberation, thinking over his options, Brianov decides the following:
He will allow the worker to continue with his mine,
Will move the warrior out of Moscow to save the day
Year 2070:
After 40 more years, the ancient Brianov looks out from his palace (the stone hut up on that hill) and sees the Colossus! He immediately orders a unit of Spearmen to be trained. He is informaed that his Sages have discovered how to build stone walls. Great! He orders that they discover what to do with those little rouund discs the children like playing with.
As expected, the Barb has approached our worker. Brian sends out the warrior to protect the worker, temporarily leaving the city of Moscow undefended!
Years 2030 - 1990:
The Barb tries to sneak past our valiat warrior! Our warrior wins but takes one hit. Our scout moves back into position, hopefully will not run into another barb so soon.. This is really slowing down our exploration. Brianov decides that having a spearman in Moscow is important to free up a warrior, even if it slows down the future construction of Pyramids. Brianov recosiders and takes away the spears from his new troops, giving them axes instead.. an extra unit and pyramids one turn closer..
Years 1950 - 1910:
Moved scout into position, with a warrior backup. Worker now working on roads to St. Petersburg. Settler in a whopping 12 turns! While Brianov is following Lees building plan, he hopes that the pyramids dont slow our growth too much as Moscow cannot build settlers for a long time..
With some minor tweaking of workers in St. Petes, we now have city growth in 4 turns (Instead of 2) but a settler in 6! Also, pyramids in 50, instead of 59!
Year 1870:
Moved Scout and Warrior to the east. Haven't seen anything new yet.
Year 1830:
From a mountaintop our scout sees.. more mountains! and an English warrior.. Brianov wonders just how close that English civ is.. After a quick chat with the English warrior,, we discover that they are equal to us in tech and cities..
Year 1790:
Moved units, worker gets closer to St Petes,
Year 1750:
Warrior and Scout part ways, scout goes south, warrior north, around the huge mountain range..
Year 1725:
Our warrior spots the barb villiage! However, the English warriors will probably get there first.. Our scout sees some nice land to his north, with grasslands and wheat. Great land, if we can get past that jungle!
Year 1700:
A barb spawns and defeats the feeble English warriors! Our warrior rushes to avenge our fallen friends. Scratch that! The scout is close to the barbs not the warrior! oops..
Our settler is done, moves him towards the little island to the east, starts another one.
Year 1675:
Moves scout away from barbs, Warrior towards them..
Year 1600:
Our warrior clears the Barbarian villiage and loots 25 gold!
Year 1575: (17)
Our settlers build Briangrad!
Our warrior sees gems to the south, but surrounded by mountains and jungle.
We want to get settlers to the southeast and northeast of Moscow as soon as possible to stop English settlers from squeezing in..
Year 1550:
Our Sages discover wheels! directed to discover writing next. Note to trade techs with English if possible. Briangrad has horses next to it! Worker will build road there next..
Our scout discovers a strange yellow line to his north.
Year 1525:
Our scout discovers a town called Heliopolis! It apparently is ruled by a despot called Cleo. Funny all civs so far are led by females..
Our warrior to the south discovers the English border! They are hampered by the mountains to their north, but the Egyptians to the north can expand south very quickly.. we need those lands! Had a chat with Cleo, Nice lady. Seems she hasnt discovered wheels or alphabet yet!
Year 1500:
The ancient Brianov line runs out. Coughing and sputtering, he whispers to his successor:
Settlers.. We need those lands before the Egyptians or English get them.. Don't trade tech yet, we have a lead ~~cough~~ ~~ack~~ Unless.. ~cough~~ they have something to trade with.. ~~gasp~~ English have Mysticism.. ~gak~ ~aaauughh~
BrianJ Jan 05, 2002, 07:12 AM I'm attaching the picture, hope it works!
We got slowed down in exploring by that barb.. I should have been able to get more mapped. However, not a bad start. The English and Egyptians, and everyone else I guess, are on that big continent. I didnt find a single village, but maybe the English and Egyptians beat us to them. Keep looking!
Briangrad is on a forest, so production bonus, plus full food! Not a bad site for a city, but we need more to the east fast!
have fun Mother Russia! You are up again right?
BrianJ Jan 05, 2002, 07:27 AM Oops, one more thing..
I suggest trying to tweak the production in Moscow to shorten the wait for Pyramids.. maybe get the worker back to mine the cow square..
Give me more soldiers, noble leader, that we may sheathe our swords into the beating hearts of our enemies! :D
LKendter Jan 05, 2002, 08:34 AM We have an interesting decision for city directions!
We want to those silks from the north, but our competion for good land is in the east. I think I heard the word gems. St. Petersburg will be building settlers for a long time. We probably will need a second worker soon.
Get use to wonders from me. I have more then once pulled of a 20000 culture city. The world will just love me.
BrianJ Jan 05, 2002, 09:30 AM I know, if I had my turn to do over, I'd send our settler to the wheat fields.. I think the silks can wait a bit anyway.. noone has mapmaking yet so cant get up there for a bit!
Our production sucks.. maybe switch St. Petes to worker?
Good luck Zed-F!
Zed-F Jan 05, 2002, 02:38 PM Hey guys, I think I'm gonna have to skip this turn, my HD threw a sector right in the middle of the Windows OS last night & I'm not going to be able to do anything until I can repair the damage.
Cya next time 'round the loop!
LKendter Jan 05, 2002, 02:45 PM I think ST. Pete needs another settler. Then we may want worker #2. We are mainly in expansion mode.
If Mother Russia finishes fast, I can move tonight.:king:
Mother Russia Jan 05, 2002, 10:30 PM 1500 BC- After the death of Brianov I, Mother Russia II took control of Russia. Her first act as Czarina was to change the city in the northwest's name. Briangrad was not it's rightful Russian name and so it was changed back to Kiev as it should have been. Sorry Brian. I had to, it was driving me nuts.
1450 BC- Russian Explorers discover horses near a lake, south of Egypt. Mother Russia proclaims that "She will ride one of them before her reign is up." Unfortunately, she won't.
1425 BC- Workers complete a road bringing precious dyes into Moscow. The people of Moscow rejoice.
1400 BC- More gems are discovered just north of London. When Mother Russia finds out she wails "Wretched English, how I loathe to see them filling their pockets with those precious stones that belong around my neck!"
1350 BC- Wine is discovered in the hills east of Russia and south of Egypt. Mother Russia is overjoyed with the news as she is a heavy drinker. To celebrate she has a glass of cheap wine or two or three or.........
1325 BC- Kiev (Formerly Briangrad) builds warrior and can now defend itself. Production is immediately changed to settler.
1250 BC- The English call upon great Russia to accept a trade of Iron Working for 70 gold. Mother Russia finds this to be acceptable, but would like to see if they could get more out of the deal. The final deal ends up being that the English give Iron Working and Mysticism and the Russians give a total of 158 gold. Mother Russia immediately goes and has a suit made of iron made for her. She puts it on and discovers it is much too heavy for her weak bones and ends up hiding it in a closet.
1225 BC- Iron is discovered in the hills on the peninsula north of Moscow. Mother Russia is overjoyed and proclaims "Russia will use the iron to build mighty armies with swords and armor! But this iron is not for suits!"
1175 BC- Work begins on a stretch of highway connecting Kiev to the already established Moscow-St. Petersburg route. Mother Russia cannot wait for it's completion as she has not visited Kiev yet, only Briangrad. LOL
1075 BC- Russian warrior attacks a barbarian that had been pursuing a Russian Explorer for quite some time. The warrior wins uncontested.
1050 BC- St. Petersburg completes it's work on a settler and begins working on a worker. Mother Russia immediately begins plans for a new city in the east.
1025 BC- It is discovered that Egypts border in the north now stretches from one coast to the other, forcing Russia to remain in the south of the continent. "We must stop the Egyptians from coming down into land that is rightfully ours. If they come, I will not hesitate to attack!"
975 BC- Mother Russia dies at her 536th birthday party after choking on a some dye from St. Petersburg that she thought was the precious wine from the east. She never got to ride her horses nor did she do anything very productive during her 500 year reign of power in Russia. She is looked down upon for centuries as being the Czarina who talked but did nothing.
NOTES:
-There is a settler that is on it's way to whatever spot you want
-The Pyramids will be completed in 5 turns and Moscow will become the envy of the world.
-Writing, which will open up a huge window of opportunities, will be discovered in 1 turn
MOTHER RUSSIA
LKendter Jan 05, 2002, 11:45 PM 950 BC - In honor of his glorious relatives, Moscow is renamed Kendterville* for the visionary who foresaw a town of great cultural wonders. Embassies established with our neighbors.
925 BC - Barbs kill one of our exploring warriors :(
875 BC - A barb camp spotted by our settler. He runs away, and a warrior is dispatched to kill it.
850 BC - Kill a barb north of Kiev. I watch the English scout get killed.
800 BC - Briangrad whips out a settler. $48 gets our horseback riding from Egypt. Communications with the French for $2/turn + $5. Nothing of interest from France.
775 BC - Again, Kill a barb north of Kiev.
730 BC - Displace Phoenician camp, money goes away to establish an Embassy with France. Kendterville completes a temple, and begins the Oracle.
710 BC - Barely kill a barb north of Kiev. Come one, why isn't this warrior promoted yet?
690 BC - Minsk is aggresively formed near the wine source. Temple is order as I don't want to have the city culture flipped.
670 BC - St. Pete shield output doubled to 2.
630 BC - Our worker starts fixing things up by Kendterville. Missing road is item #1. Smolensk is formed, and start a temple. I want the Iron source to get within our borders. Since Smolensk is food heavy, start another worker. We have a lot to connect to our network. Horses now in our road net.
Summary - Kiev has been overwhipped. Don't crack it there again.
I would whip out the Barracks in St. Pete so that we have two source of veteran spearman. Our weakness right know is lack of military. Kiev or St. Pete should be dedicated to vet spearman before the world decides to beat us up.
The settler by Moscow needs escort There is a nearby barb camp.
Good luck - If we can get Oracle, and Great Library ... I went for Literature with the GL in mind.
*Just joking - Mother Russia, since you desire to be boring with city names.
BrianJ Jan 06, 2002, 09:20 AM After the death of Brianov I, Mother Russia II took control of Russia. Her first act as Czarina was to change the city in the northwest's name. Briangrad was not it's rightful Russian name and so it was changed back to Kiev as it should have been. Sorry Brian. I had to, it was driving me nuts.
 Oh, thats too funny! Thats ok, the next Emporor/Empress has complete despotic control over their cities :king:
:D
Is it my turn again already? What happened to Zed-F? If he shows he can play after me as I've taken Lees save.
BrianJ Jan 06, 2002, 11:02 AM After 20 years of searching for an heir to Mother Russia, Brianov II takes the throne in 510BC.
510 BC:
Barb Horsie tries to attack Kiev, our fine warriors rush out to do battle. They perform so well that they are promoted to Veteran! Brianov decides to close our borders with the Egyptian kingdom by sending the settler up to beside Minsk. This will take 160 years! (8 turns)
490 BC:
Kiev is in unrest! Most likely because of the name change from their beloved Briangrad, although more enlightened administrators may say it was because the valiant warriors rushed out of the city to defend the workers.. ungrateful wretches!. Brianov provides some entertainment until the troops get back.
470 BC:
Smolensk finishes gathering a worker and immediately recruits for a warrior to guard the fair city.. OK, its not really fair, just a gathering of mud huts, but it WILL be fair! The English dare to attempt construction of the Oracle! The mighty Kiev warrior is sent to deal with the barbarian villiage to its west.
450 BC:
Kiev completes a spearman and starts a settler. The scout reports that the English are sending another settler east of Coventry towards the gold-laden hills. Brianov considers using the whip in Minsk to complete the temple but decides to wait a bit.
430 BC:
Nothing happens, Brianov takes a nap.
410 BC:
The worker by Kentnergrad finally completes the road through the forest. In a fit of madness Brianov orders them to mine the cow pastures south of the city!
390 BC:
Our sages learn about Literature and are directed to study Map making. Our scouts tell us the French are also building a rival Oracle!
370 BC: Our Valiant Warrior is still searching for the Barb camp near Kiev.
350 BC:
Smolensk finishes its warrior and starts a settler.
330 BC:
Our settler approaches its city site!
310 BC:
Our scout sees an English settler and escort heading north to our city site, but too late! Odessa is founded, realizing a dream of Brianov's great grandfather. Odessa should grow very fast! Immediately starts on a temple.
290 BC:
Oh no! The English settler is heading for our Dyes! This may mean war!
270 BC:
Our veteran Warrior defeats the Barbarian camp!
Smolensk starts on temple in hopes of a culture flip of the English city about to be built in our lands!
250 BC:
zzzz
230 BC:
Kiev experiences unrest upon reaching size 5! Citizens are still angry over that name change! Entertainer hired.
210 BC: (16)
The Oracle is completed in Moscow! Immediately starts a settler, then on to the Great Library, as Brianov considers this one of the most important structures to get.
200 BC:
Oxford is founded in OUR territory! It is too early to go to war over this outrage but Brianov leaves notes to future leaders to decide what to do about this. it is very close to Moscow, so may flip eventually.. The Moscow settler will settle close to Oxford as well and build a temple.
190 BC:
A Jute Barbarian attacks our mighty warrior to no avail!
St. Petes is experiencing civil unrest! A juggling act is commissioned to appear each year in the city, getting the popultions minds of the growth of their city. The English ask for world map trade in addition to us giving them Literature, I decline, wanting to get a good head start on the GL. :D
170 BC:
Kiev builds a settler! Starts a temple. Minsk experiances growing pains, Hires a circus to perform in the city. Our valiant warrior is next to a Barb camp which mist be taken out! A settler is on its way from Kiev! It is up to the next leader to decide where as Brianov is once again on his deathbed.
150 BC:
Brianov manages to hang on for 20 more years. Reports of his demise were apparently exaggerated! (Mixed up on number of turns and dates!) Our settler is complete and heads from Moscow towards the plains to the south. GL started in Moscow. Road from Smolensk to Moscow is complete, worker sent back up to bring that iron online! The feeble Barbarian camp is destroyed.
Finally, the heirs to the Russian thrown are rewarded! Brianov II passes. This time he leaves no suggestions to his trusted Heir.
LKendter Jan 06, 2002, 12:07 PM The big question -
Will we get the Great Library?
With Regent - no chance, the time to build the settler & regrow the city is to much.
With Warlord - we shall see.
I generally HATE building any settlers / workers from a city that plans to build a wonder. I have lost to many wonders by just one turn  The settler cost of the several turns to build, AND who know how much because of Moscow's smaller size.
My worry is lack of military! I didn't see any sign that Brian J added much.
BrianJ Jan 06, 2002, 12:49 PM You are right, I didnt add much military. St. Petes took my whole turn to build that barracks.
I'm not too worried about missing the GL because, like you said, this is only Warlord.. However your point is taken.. Hopefully Moscow will grow faster.
I think we can rush the temple in Minsk. Then maybe grow some military.
Zed-F Jan 06, 2002, 02:44 PM Ok, comp is back up & limping...
Looks like I'm on deck, so I'll take a crack at it. We need military, hmm?
BrianJ Jan 06, 2002, 06:44 PM Welcome back Zed-F
Yep, we need military! St. Petes is finished a barracks the next turn, and Minsk can be rushed for its temple.. Good Luck!
Zed-F Jan 06, 2002, 09:26 PM Not sure how many turns I should be taking, so I took 20 (bringing us up to 250AD.)
150 BC (end of Brian's turn): Minsk whips temple. We have 3 workers in the whole empire??? This has GOT to change...
130 BC: St Petersburg completes barracks, starts spearman. In town workers are all on squares with food but no shields, but no growth, and we have an entertainer... Need to get a spearman to reduce unrest right away to get that entertainer back in the fields. Accept a temporary food deficit to get workers on dye forests (spearman in 4 turns!) Minsk completes a temple, starts worker. We start researching Code of Law.
110 BC: Warrior N of Kiev kills a barbarian & locates an encampment. Worker by smolensk starts building road to Iron. Odessa grows to 3, whips temple.
90 BC: Odessa completes temple, starts worker.
70 BC: Warrior N of Kiev smashes barbarian camp, becomes elite. :) Scout spots barbarian camp S of Oxford (near where new city is to be formed,) warrior from Moscow sent to investigate.
50 BC: St Petersburg builds spearman, starts another. Starvation ends as spearman stays home to quell unrest, entertainer put back to work. Sevastopol founded S of Oxford, starts temple.
30 BC: Maps traded w/ Egypt (got 27 gold), France (got 30 gold), and England (got 21 gold.) England & France are building Great Library but all their towns are too small to offer serious competition unless they've already stockpiled most of the shields they need. Temple whipped in Kiev. Barbarian horsemen capture our scout S of Sevastopol (didnt need it anymore anyway.) Lack of military in the region a problem, we just have the one warrior from Moscow moving to Sevastopol. More military coming online at St Petersburg, but slowly...
10 BC: Kiev completes temple, starts spearman. Barbarians ransack Sevastopol for 47 gold. Warrior N of Kiev kills barbarian.
10 AD: Moscow grows to 7, needs an entertainer since warrior left. Englan establishes Liverpool S of Sevastopol (by sea!)
30 AD: Tsibili established N of Kiev on Silks, starts building temple. Warrior by Tsibili kills barbarian. A worker is building a road to Tsibili.
50 AD: Odessa completes worker, starts another. Warrior by Tsibili sacks barbarian camp. St Petersburg completes spearman, starts another.
70 AD: Minsk completes worker, starts barracks for lack of anything better to do (may need to be able to build/whip military here eventually.) Spearman arrives in Moscow, entertainer moved back to the fields.
90 AD: Smolensk completes temple, starts settler. Minsk whips barracks.
110 AD: Minsk completes barracks, starts spearman.
130 AD: Kiev completes spearman, starts worker.
150 AD: St Petersburg completes spearman, starts Galley (for exploration.)
170 AD: Odessa completes worker, starts Library for lack of anything better. Sevastopol whips temple. Minsk grows to 5, needs an entertainer. Maps traded with Egypt (-18 gold, got Philosophy), France (+7 gold), and England (-1 gold.)
190 AD: Barbarian camp S of Sevastopol sends horsemen to attack Liverpool. :) Code of Laws researched, starting Mathematics (figuring Great Library will eventually get us Republic for free.) Odessa & Minsk change production to Courthouse. Sevastopol completes temple, starts Library.
210 AD: Kiev completes worker, starts settler.
230 AD: Spearman scatters barbarian village S of Sevastopol.
250 AD: Nothing much happens. The worker building roads to Sevastopol is returning to Moscow to improve the lands there, since Moscow will soon be big enough to need more improved tiles.
Notes for next player: A settler is about to be built in Smolensk. It is intended to settle N of Moscow, just E of Wheat square and N of river grassland square. This should be the optimal spot for that city - leaves wheat irrigable and gives fresh water access, so no aqueduct needed. A settler is being built in Kiev which could fill in the plains NW of the city, but this production could be changed if you like (I just didn't want England grabbing it since they are sending settlers via ship these days.) There are now quite a few workers on various projects, but that doesn't mean we couldn't use more... we are still somewhat light on military as well but not as bad as previously. A priority should be completing the east-west road link between Odessa and Smolensk once the road from Odessa to Minsk is completed. This will get our grapes and horses west, and our iron, silks, and dye east. Sevastopol needs to keep building that library to be able to culture-flip Oxford and Liverpool. It might be worth rushing, but I'll leave that up to you.
Mostly defense & infrastructure that turn...
BrianJ Jan 07, 2002, 08:45 AM Good work Zed-F!
At least now we are getting some defense so the AI doesnt see us as a pushover..
Oxford shouldnt take too long to flip hopefully, since we have both Sevastopol and Moscow putting pressure on it.. (with all those wonders!:D
Mother Russia Jan 07, 2002, 04:00 PM Okay I'll get on it as soon as I get offline should be up in about an hour or so.
Mother Russia Jan 07, 2002, 05:42 PM Here's the game. My summary will be up later tonite but I have to get some dinner first! Lol! Be back later
Toasty Jan 07, 2002, 06:47 PM Any chance I could sign up, or are you willing to have more than 3? I'm only running on one other succession game, so you don't have to worry about not being able to play.
Well, good luck on your game.
LKendter Jan 07, 2002, 07:53 PM Lee the culture monger comes back.
Yakutsk switch to temple. I dislike regular troops. I cancel the mine by Yakutsk, as it is currently a 1/1 city. Our core cities need help.
I see my goals - More veteran spearman, & workers.
I tend not to trade techs, but Currency to England for $286 & $1/turn is to much to pass up. It leaves England BROKE!
470 AD - Mine is built by Smolensk adding 2 production there. St. Pete, Sverdlovsk whips out a temple at 1 pop point. This is my favorite whip crack, as the temple offsets the whip penalty.
500 AD - Vladivostok is formed - Crap location, but 2nd Iron source. They do deplete :( It starts a temple as a cultural defense. Whip again in Sverdlosk - Barracks completed. 3 luxuries is very nice. Plenty of rush building ability.
510 AD - The Germans are in the game, and complete the great wall.
540 AD - Fuedalism ordered to be researched. I am not sure how much we will gain with Monarchy / Republic right now. I love the Scientific - Monotheism for free. We are already ahead with tech :), and this helps even more.
570 AD - Golden age is over.
610 AD - Sevastopol orders up a cathedral. Our borders do cross Oxford, I want the flip.
630 AD - As I was hoping - GL gives us Republic. REVOLUTION.
640 AD - The road below Vladistock is completed - Time to trade! Wines to France for $145, Silks to England for $137.
Summary - Get ready for Republic. I imroved our military a lot. I have the workers mostly near our core cities. What I am up to -
1 - The Irragation on the wheat should get a very large city, near Moscow, putting even the mountains to work.
2 - The stack clearing the jungle is to eventually get to Sevastopol.
3 - I think the Great Lighthouse will complete a handfull of turns before Fuedalism. Moscow is our only heavy weight production town. Next up - start something, then when Sun Tzu is available go for it.
Mother Russia Jan 07, 2002, 08:13 PM 250 AD- After the demise of Czar Zed-F, Russia looked towards the great family that had once founded Russia over 4000 years ago to supply them with a new leader that would lead Russia to a new age of industry and culture. Mother Russia III, great great great great grandaughter of Mother Russia I, took power over Russia in 250 AD.
260 AD- Smolensk produces settlers and begins work on swordsman to strengthen Great Russia's military.
270 AD- France establishes, Rouen well in rightful Russian Lands. Mother Russia III is outraged. "One more infraction like this and I'm afraid we will have to teach our neighbors a lesson they shant forget." Sverdlosk is also established north of Moscow where Czar Zed-F had asked for it to be.
280 AD- St Petersburg produces a galley so that Russia can expand beyond it's current continent. Sevastopol builds library and the citizens become literate and well-read.
320 AD- Russian wise men unlock the secret of Mathematics. The Russian people begin counting, adding, subtracting, but haven't quite mastered multiplication. The wisemen decided to look into another great science, Currency. After adding and subtracting to her hearts content, Mother Russia III hears news of yet another French city within rightful Russian lands. She is outraged once more and is already planning an offensive.
330 AD- Kiev builds settler and begins work on a library.
360 AD- St Petersburg builds swordsman and begins work on a library.
370 AD- Yaktusk is established north of Kiev on the Russian Penninsula. Citizens from all over the world flock there, as it is on the ocean, has a decent food supply, and is near Moscow, not too shabby. Smolensk builds swordsmen and begins producing a settler. Mother Russia III becomes as angry as she has ever been when she hears news of yet another French city in rightful Russian lands. She vows to destroy them as soon as her military builds up to it's proper strength.
380 AD- Moscow finishes the Great Library! The people in Moscow are smarter than ever and scientists immediately discover polytheism and cannot wait to learn even more! Then suddenly Mother Russia III is told that she has led Russia into a Golden Age where culture and science shall blossom! To continue her reign of great achievements Mother Russia begins the construction of another wonder in Moscow, The Great Lighthouse!
390 AD- Sverdlosk builds spearman and then begins work on a temple. The completion of the Odessa-Smolensk roadway system marks the first time in thousands of years that all of Russia is connected by roads. Every resource is being used up to it's full potential.
410 AD- Sevastopol builds barracks and begins working on a courthouse.
420 AD- Joan'd Arch of the wretched French offers to exchange maps with us, we agree.
430 AD- St Petersburg builds a library and begins work on a temple.
440 AD- Kiev builds library and begins work on horseman. Egypt offers Russia 10 gold pieces for our world map. We accept. England then offers 150 gold for Mathematics, we accept.
450 AD- Smolensk builds settler and then begins work on a library. Odessa builds courthouse and begins on a library. Sevastopol's culture expands and Russian scientist uncover the secrets of currency and begin a new technology, Construction. Mother Russia III commissions the first Russian Coins to be made and while admiring one, she slipped and dropped the coin down her throat and choked on it.
Notes: I hate those idiot French! I want to kill them. Anyone else have any ideas?
BrianJ Jan 07, 2002, 08:29 PM Brianov III the Unsteady takes the throne. The first thing he does is peruse the Great Library. Tsk, the history volumes are out of order! ;) Finally finds the one he wants and starts his reign
I'll try to play tonight, if not then tomorrow morning.
BrianJ Jan 08, 2002, 10:07 AM As Brianov II takes control he notes that there is anarchy in the land. He advocates a representative government where citizens vote for.. him.
660 AD:
Anarchy!Brianov reviews the empire. he notes that the dates are now counting up, rather than down, unlike during his ancestors reign. What a novel idea..
670 AD:
A Republic is founded in Russia!
The English in Oxford move 2 troops out of the city. They have not crossed the border however. Brianov is not worried, they will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. Brianov notes that the treasury is losing 15 gold per turn. Frowns and looks into ways to improve this. Although his predecessor left him a huge treasury (1200 gold!) this bleeding cannot be allowed to continue.
680 AD:
Brianov takes a much needed snooze.
690 AD:
Minsc finishes its worker, starts a swordsman.
St. Petes starts a Galley after completing its spearman.
700 AD:
Odessa finishes Spearman and starts a worker. A road is started to link the Egyptian empire to Minsk so that trading can be done.
710 AD:
Zzzz..
720 AD
The Lighthouse is completed in Moscow! Moscow starts training an archer, in preparation to switch to Sun Zsu in one turn. Sverdlosk completes a library, starts a spearman. Odessa completes a Worker, starts a Swordsman. Our wise-men/women have discovered Feudalism! Now we can put those serfs to work! Chivalry is started, as Brianov wants some knights! Moscow switches to Sun Zsu. Spearmen all upgraded to Pikemen, except in Moscow, as no barracks! arrg! Lowered the science rate teporarily, still losing 7 gold. will take 1 turn longer for chivalry.
Tried trading dyes to Egypt, but they are too cheap, world map and 20 gold!
730 AD:
Moved worker by Odessa up near El-Amarna to steal water! (Still in our territory)
740 AD:
Zzzz
750 AD:
Trade territory map to Egyptians. Trade World map to French. We have nothing to hide.
St Petes finishes a galley, starts Marketplace. (15 turns) Moved city workers to forest to get extra shields since pop is maxed out. Minsk finishes Swordsman and starts Marketplace.
760 AD:
Smolensk finishes Aqueduct, starts Barracks. Odessa finishes Swordsman, starts Marketplace.
770 AD:
Zzzz..
780 AD:
St Petes is maxed out in Pop.. switches to Aqueduct. Sverdlovsk same. I thought this city was by a river? Apparently mountains with rivers dont count.
800 AD:
Zzz
810 AD:
Traded World maps with England to keep good relations. We have nothing to hide at the moment.
Smolensk finishes a Barracks, starts Horsemen.
820 AD:
Zzzz
830 AD:
Learns Chivalry! Studying Engineering. We are rocking as far as tech goes, the other civs are not out of the Bronze age yet! They dont have Construction yet.. Temple in Yakutsk bought for 68 gold, not too much and it gets our borders growing faster..
840 AD:
Still losing about 11 gold, despite science rate dropped. If someone has money making ideas please let me know! I cant trade with Civs because they are all broke.
Kiev completes a courthouse. Starts Aqueduct. Yakutsk starts a barracks.
850 AD:
Vladivostok completes its temple and starts a pikeman.
860 AD:
Monarchy retrieved from the GL! Strange, the game doesnt actually say that this is here we got it.. Some uppity wannabe king wants to start a revolution, but Brianov crushes the movement.
Brianov decides his time is up and retires to a peaceful villa near Kiev (Briangrad).
Money seems to be our biggest problem right now.. the other civs are broke. Hopefully we can use the galley to go out past France in the east or west side to find other civs.. I built barracks somewhere and started one in Yakutsk, before remembering Sun Zsu will give them for free.. I guess we can sell the ones we have once Sun Zsu is complete?
Smolensk will finish our first knight in 3 turns!
Feel free to change production.. I started what I thjought we needed. Actually started a few marketplaces but then some of the cities maxed out so switched them back to Aqueduct. If you want, switch them back to marketplace if it will significantly improve our cashflow..
If you guys have any suggestions to improve on my decisions, just let me know. We have a huge tech lead! If we go to war, we should roll over whomever we choose, with spearmen against knights! :D
Good luck!
Zed-F Jan 08, 2002, 12:25 PM Ok, got the ball. I'll see if I get a chance to play tonight; if not, hopefully tomorrow.
Zed-F Jan 08, 2002, 07:45 PM Didn't take detailed notes this time... not much happened. Only took 10 turns.
Construction
- Tried to get marketplace going in a number of cities to improve cash flow. Once marketplace built, typical follow-up is aqueduct. St. Petersburg reversed this order.
- Rather than building an aqueduct in Sverdlosk, changed to marketplace and rushed it (since it would take forever to build normally) so it could start pumping out workers, which we still need more of -- it will never have really good shields so we might as well use it for its food.
- For the most part let military slide. Our army is not really impressive but none of our neighbors seem to have much better. We need more infrastructure (especially cash!) if we want to start pumping out any more troops.
Diplomacy
- Couldn't get much cash out of the AI, but didn't check at the end of my turn, they might have built up a small reserve we could siphon off with maps/right of passage.
- We might need to trade for more luxuries soon as some of our larger cities are starting to experience unrest.
- Grenoble (French) near Minsk and Vladivostok overthrew its governor and joined us!
Research
- Engineering discovered 940 AD, started on Invention. If Theology is more important we could easily change directions. Theology for Sistine Chapel would be nice but that would kill our Oracle, exascerbating our budding happiness problems, and we still have a ways to go on Sun Tzu.
Military
- Our galley went south exploring sea tiles since we have Lighthouse... doesn't look like there's anything but Ocean to our west but we might as well keep exploring around England & France toward the east. Maybe we can get contact with some other Civs.
Mother Russia Jan 09, 2002, 06:26 PM Got it! Should be finished in a couple hours!
Mother Russia Jan 10, 2002, 05:22 PM Sorry, I didn't get around to playing last night and I have a buissness dinner tonite so I seriously doubt I'll get around to playing tonite. So if the next person wants to take over that's okay, but I'll definitely be ready again tomorrow afternoon. Thanks guys!
LKendter Jan 10, 2002, 06:24 PM OK - I am moving right now.
LKendter Jan 10, 2002, 07:15 PM A distant relative of Cultural Lee come back to the throne, earlier then fortold.
Order #1 - Make a profit - the science rate is reduced.
Order #2 - More military. Sverdlosk switches to Pikeman.
Order #3 - Avoid food surplus. The worker by Odessa is allowed complete its project, but no more irragation here.
Order #4 - Grenoble must grow. Cancel the mining project, and the worker to jungle.
Order #5 - Culture is more important, and the switch is made to research Theology.
Order #6 - Greed is good. Trade silks to England, wine to France, and dye to Egypt.
Order #7 - Never mind. Order #1 is cancelled thanks to order #6.
Order #8 - Spend our profits. Pikeman is rushed in Sverdlovsk.
Order #9 - Begin playing!
980 AD - Continue to upgrade our military. Luxury rate to 10%, science to 40%.
1020 - Change irragation to mine near Sverlodsk. Far to much food.
1030 - Sevastopol is growing again. :)
1080 - Novogorod is formed. OK, it is a jungle wates for now, but those 5 squares will become usefull 1 day. Plus is will be a low corruption city. Kiev starts a harbor. At some point we will find the rest of the civs, and I want to be able to trade with them.
1110 - Oxford expands it borders. Less of a chance for a flip.
1160 AD - :flamedevi: Just as I was moving a lot of troops by Oxford for war, Oxford surrenders and joins Russia :flamedevi: I guess they knew there destiny. ;)
Summary - I saw Sun Tzu academy completed. I started Sistine Chappel.
Start a city building up shields for the workshop, I may not have done it.
Sending workers to our new dye source :) Maybe we can trade it to England
BrianJ Jan 10, 2002, 09:03 PM I'll probably play tomorrow morning..
Alright! We got Oxford!
Lee, were you planning on invading Liverpool with that stack? ;)
That would be evil, and oh so wrong..
Great job on getting us into the black. The civs were broke on my last turn.. And I didnt want to have to lower the science rate any more than what I did.
How did we get so far ahead in tech with the science rate at 4? Not that I'm complaining or anything!
BrianJ Jan 10, 2002, 09:13 PM Lee, another thing, just having a quick look at the game. You said you started Sistine Chapel? uh uh.. Moscow is building a cathedral..
Smolensk is just about to finish a cathedral so I'll start Sistine there.
PS And now only if Dijon will join us, I like Mustard..
Zed-F Jan 10, 2002, 11:49 PM I won't be able to play my turn this round after Brian. See you next round...
BrianJ Jan 11, 2002, 12:15 PM Brianov IV, known as the Explorer takes the reins of the Russian Empire.
1170:
Brianov reviews the empire and sees that all is good. Moves workers around.
1180:
An Egyptian War Chariot just across the border makes Brianov nervous, even though it appears to be just protecting a worker. Brianov Directs a few knights to go east.
Smolensk starts Sistine Chapel.
1190:
Moves workers around again.
1200:
The same.
1210:
Our Sooth Sayers enter the era of Invention. Many good things should come of this. They immediately start working on a strange white powder which they say will go boom if lit.
1220:
Liverpool expands! Liz complains about our troops suddenly in her territory. We back out.
Odessa completes Knight, starts Pikeman.
1230:
Cleo complains about our troops pestering the women and molesting the chickens! (From a galley?) Our ship continues up north around the Egyptian homeland, finding nothing.
Sverdlosk starts an aqueduct.
1240:
Trades world maps with Cleopatra. Oh no! Our galley was lost in trecherous waters! Building another one. (moved to the wrong square. I didnt know how you guys feel about restarting so I didn't.)
1250:
Moscow completes its cathedral, starts Leos Workshop.
1250:
1260:
1265:
Brianov spends the past few turns adding to structure and military. A new galley is formed.
1270:
Brianov moves troops near Dijon. If Dijon expands its borders, our empire would be cut in two! We cannot allow this!
1275:
A tribe we have never met, the Germans have completed something called Hanging Gardens. Brianov dreams about visiting the gardens some day, in the company of HORDES OF MIGHTY RUSSIAN COSSACKS.. oops. errrm.. never mind.
1280:
Zzzz..
1285:
Christofen Culumbuski visits the great Brianov in his Summer palace in Kiev. "Sire," he says, you have a great lighthouse and a galley just itching to explore, let me go west, I can find new lands and new people to trade with our empire" Brianov considers, and tells Columbuski "We have already lost one galley in treacherous waters, what makes you think you can risk it? No, I forbid it!"
After some negotiation, Columbuski convinces Brianov to agree to his plan. He sets sail directly east of Kiev. For the first month of sailing, there is no sign of land to the west. However, the overconfident Columbuski keeps sailing, with the Lighthouse lighing the way. The intrepid sailors lose sight of land. Columbuski is discouraged, however they had past the point of no return. The first mate was just about to string Columbuski up by the yerdarm when the shout went out. "Land-Ho!" A seaman hollars. All eyes look west as land cones within sight! Redcoated workers scurry about the fields, harvesting what Columbuski learls later, is spices! A barbarian Minoan conscript galley plies the coast threatening these unknown people!
The red-shirted workers introduce themselves as Romans! A land of Green-shirts can be seen to the south of the Romans. The Romans appear to be a backward but polite people. Columbuski promises to help them with their 'Barbarian' problem. he declines from introducing them to the others on his continent however.
1290:
Brianov trades territory maps with Liz, but doesnt give them the world map!
Trades world maps with Rome, as well as getting 20 gold in the bargain. Hears talk of Germans. They must share the same continent as the Greeks and Romans. Trades contact with the English with Greece for contact with the Germans and 1 gold per turn. Trades contact with the Egyptians to Germany and 5 gold per turn.
Trades France contact with the Germans for 3 gold per turn. Trades the English contact with theRomans for 15 gold. All AI Civs are flat broke now!
During its return to Russia, our valiant galley fights off the Minoan barbarians!
Columbuski returns to Russia to a hero's wecome, his galley laden with gold and treaties. Brianov rewards him with a Dascha near Kiev.
Brianov looks with some trepidation at the new world map. This second continent is about the same size as ours but only three Civs, and Greece holds a large chunk of it!
1295:
Our Sooth Sayers discover the uses of Gunpowder! Starts studying Education. This will cancel the Great Library, but we are already so far in the lead in tech that it doesnt matter. Brainov dreams of reaching the stars! Sevastopol has saltpeter as does Grenoble! There seems to be only 1 patch of saltpeter in the other continent, while it is liberally scattered around in ours.. (Egypt 2, France 1, us 2, England none)
1300:
Nothing happens.
1305:
Brianov accidently blows himself up while playing with the black powder in the labs. He is buried in his extensive family Duscha in Kiev, and a search for an heir begins!
BrianJ Jan 11, 2002, 12:27 PM Here is a picture of the empire with the new continent showing on the world map.
I got lucky with exploration. I have to confess, I played a few extra turns myself, after posting last time, and found Greece. I didn't know if I should tell you guys as it was an alternate timeline kind of thing, since Zed-F was playing his turns from my previous post.
Anyway here it is. I traded contacts with the world until everyone was broke! They didnt have much to start with but we got a bit more for our coffers.. and now they have nothing!:D
We can trade dyes for spice with Rome but need navigation first, otherwise can't trade across oceans.
Germany is building Sistine chapel. We may want to switch Sverdlosk(?)'s production with Moscow as Sistine will finish a few turns faster in Moscow. It may have better culture value than Leo's as well, to build up Moscows culture.
Good luck Mother Russia!
BrianJ Jan 11, 2002, 12:42 PM Guess you'll be needing that save!
I realized that I didn't include it right away, but then my ISP went down!
Anyway, here it is:
Zed-F Jan 11, 2002, 01:24 PM Trading over ocean squares requires Magnetism, I believe, not Navigation. It'll be a while before we can trade with them...
BrianJ Jan 11, 2002, 01:39 PM Actually, I just checked, Navigation allows harbours to trade across ocean squares, Magnetism allows Caravels to cross ocean squares..
Are you still not playing this turn? We could wait until the weekend if you want. If not, Mother Russia will be next.
BTW, what is our goal here? I'd like to get an alliance with the English to get Dijon from the French, however, attacking the French across England would be a pain. Does anyone have ideas on this?
We will eventually have to take Dijon anyway as it threatens to cut our empire in two.
Zed-F Jan 11, 2002, 02:26 PM Hmm. Well Magnetism must also allow trade as well as Caravels over ocean squares, wouldn't make sense otherwise. (Our military ships can cross oceans but not our civilian traders?) Didn't think Navigation allowed ocean trade, though. Reverse logic -- our civilian ships can cross oceans but not military ones?
I could potentially take my turn later, but I doubt I'll get a chance until around Sunday afternoon, by which time it will probably have worked around to me again anyway since we have such a short rotation. If someone else needs to delay/skip their turn and I can play, I'll step in and take my skipped turn. Otherwise I'll just wait for my next regularly scheduled turn...
EDIT: Just checked the game... apparently both Navigation and Magnetism allow trade over ocean squares and allow Caravels to cross the ocean. No contradictions! :)
Zed-F Jan 11, 2002, 03:51 PM Seems like I might get a chance to play my turn tonight after all. I'll let you guys know tomorrow how it turned out or if I didn't get a chance to after all.
Mother Russia, if you want to play a turn tonight in case I can't play, and just not post the results, that's fine with me...

:goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:
Russia is doing great in Moscow and culture. I vote very much for the switch.
Of course, by the time it is my turn, hopefully both will be built.
Zed-F Jan 11, 2002, 10:15 PM Here's the tale of the Russian Republic from 1305 to 1400 AD...
1305 - Smolensk changed to Leonardo's, Moscow to Sistine Chapel.
1310 - zip
1315 - Minsk done Forbidden Palace -> Cathedral. Vladivostok changed from Marketplace to Knight. Vladivostok has lots of shields but no food or arrows.
1320 - Science raised to 50%.
1325 - Odessa builds Cathedral, starts Worker. Lots of unimproved land around Odessa still.
1330 - Odessa builds Worker, starts Knight. Grenoble builds Library, starts Temple.
1335 - Sevastopol builds Aqueduct, starts Knight. Everyone else is building Sistine Chapel as well. Good thing we have a head start. :)
1340 - Oxford builds Library, starts Aqueduct. Sverdlosk builds Aqueduct, starts Cathedral. Novgorod builds Pikeman, starts Library. We discover Education, Great Library becomes obsolete (shucks! ;) ) and we start Music Theory.
1345 - zip
1350 - Kiev changed to Cathedral. Vladivostok builds Knight, starts another. Yakutsk changed to Harbour for more food.
1355 - Odessa builds Knight, starts University.
1360 - Grenoble completes Temple, starts Marketplace
1365 - Minsk builds Cathedral, starts University
1370 - Sevastopol builds Knight, starts University. Music Theory completed, starting Astronomy. Smolensk changed from Leonardo's Workshop to JS Bach's Cathedral.
1375 - zip
1380 - zip
1385 - Odessa completes University, starts Leonardo's Workshop. Tsibli completes Marketplace, starts Harbour
1390 - zip
1395 - Novgorod builds Library, starts Harbour.
1400 - St. Petersburg builds Cathedral, starts Harbour. Yakutsk builds Harbour, starts Library. Vladivostok builds Knight, starts another. Dijon expands, cutting our Republic in two! Odessa changes from Leonardo's Workshop to Harbour to reconnect empire.
Situation: our turn 1400 is not finished -- we have a few units awake that need to be moved. Next leader needs to decide the following:
1) What wonders have priority? Currently we are building Sistine Chapel in Moscow, I think that one is a must have since everyone else is building it. We are also building JS Bach's Cathedral in Smolensk but we could swap it out for either Leonardo's Workshop or Copernicus's Observatory (as we will discover Astronomy shortly.) The latter might be better built elsewhere than Smolensk though. Your choice of what to build will depend on what happens with the AIs when we beat them to Sistine Chapel. Check to see if there are any other towns that we could start on a Palace so that we can snag all 4 of these wonders, plus there are a couple others coming up as well we might want (Magellan's, Adam Smith's, etc if we keep going up this branch.)
2) Should we go to war with the French & take Dijon to reconnect our empire? If we do then we can switch Odessa back to Leonardo's Workshop as it doesn't really need a Harbour otherwise. We just happen to have a fair-size Knight force in Odessa ready to go... :hammer: If we do though we will have to shift more production to military as we have an advantage but not an overwhelming one.
3) I didn't really do much with respect to Diplomacy as the AIs all seemed to be broke for the most part so you might want to see if we can get some gold/turn from them. If we go for Navigation after Astronomy (or after Astronomy and Banking) then we will be able to trade with the empires on the other continent as well.
Good Luck Mother Russia! Upon you falls the decision -- shall we go to war? :rocket3:
Zed-F Jan 11, 2002, 10:17 PM Save game file...
BrianJ Jan 12, 2002, 07:29 AM My new computer (with Civ on it) just crashed!
I have to take it in to the shop now. Hopefully I can get it back before my next turn. I'll keep you guys posted.
LKendter Jan 12, 2002, 08:46 AM OK, I take that as a skip to Mother Russia.
I should be able to play sometime today after Mother Russia.
Zed-F Jan 12, 2002, 08:54 AM Actually, Brian played before me :)
I believe the turn order is:
Mother Russia <-
Lkendter
Brian J
Zed-F
Let me know if that's not it...
BrianJ Jan 12, 2002, 09:59 AM Zed-F is right.. I already played.
In any case, I already got my computer back.
This is not necessarily a good thing. It got a CMOS error this morning when I turned it on. All the guy in the shop did was reset CMOS. I'm not convinced the problem is fixed, we shall see :) In any case I'm back in action!
:D
Mother Russia Jan 12, 2002, 12:19 PM I'm on it!
Mother Russia Jan 13, 2002, 02:45 PM 1400 AD- Mother Russia IV takes power and the people of Russia rejoice!
1405 AD- France gives Russia an ultamatum (sp?) removal of troops from Dijon or war. Russia chooses war!!!! Russia captures Dijon. Discover Astronomy start banking
1425 AD- England begins Leo's Workshop
1430 AD- Moscow buils Sistine Chapel! Russia captures Rouen. France offers 13 gold plus 5 per turn plus world map for peace. It is granted. Greece offers World Map plus 30 gold plus 10 gold per turn for Music Theory. It is agreed.
1435 AD- Discover Banking start Chemistry. Mother Russia IV dies suddenly very early on but is looked upon as a great leader as she accomplished all she vowed to. 1. Reconnect the empire and 2 build the Sistine Chapel.
BrianJ Jan 13, 2002, 02:55 PM Wow, talk about surgical strikes! I thought getting into a war would bring in England and Egypt! :D
How did France agree to peace so fast?:)
LKendter Jan 13, 2002, 04:38 PM I am moving. We should start thinking how we want to win this game.
Why are we mining plains around Yakust? The city is stuck is size.
Why are we mining plains around Sevasopol? We are limiting it's growth. Most of my worker time is going to be wasted reversing what was done.
Zed-F Jan 13, 2002, 05:32 PM IIRC, Yakutsk has no fresh water nor any way to get some. I can't remeber where Sevastopol is, but my guess is it probably can't be irrigated either (no fresh water or else all hills.) Unless we now have electricity...
LKendter Jan 13, 2002, 06:31 PM I am still playing, but I thought I would post the good news.
Yakutsk does have Irragation now.
Sevastopol is being fixed as I play.
LKendter Jan 13, 2002, 07:16 PM Pre-turn.
Lee the terrible comes to power. Many fear his reign. There are rumors the "accident" that killed Mother Russia was not. That somehow Lee the terrible arranged it for selling tech for a wonder we haven't build yet. The people will never know the truth.
The director of land development mysteriously disappears, but Lee says it is for the best. 3 mined squares by size 2 Yakutsk is worthless. Vladivostok has NO growth, but we are working a mountain?
The orders of Lee the terrible.
#1 - Economics, not Chemistry, for it is money that runs the world.
#2 - Cancel all worker orders.
#3 - Liverpool from England, whether the like it or not.
1440 AD - The military advisor asks "Let us destroy them, Sir!". I answer "You're right! They are scum" :flamedevi A single knight takes Liverpool. We gain two slave workers by Conventry. Kill 2 English units near Liverpool at the cost of 1 swordsman.
ARGGHHH the Greeks are building Bach's Catherdral in Knossos. It is only a size 4 city, but it could switch to a different wonder.
1445 AD - The English Scum are building the Catherdral, they have sealed there fate. Killed a longbowmen near Conventry. Conventry falls after the killer Spearman kills 2 knights. We have gems and another slave worker. The English don't want to talk? Fine - more cities will become Russian.
1450 AD - Kill a bunch of English units at no cost. Leo's workshop is built!
1455 AD - Dover is ours. Many knight worn down, but none lost. Egypt and France bribed to declare war on England. :flamedevi I try to sell Germany out of date Engineering, but his offer is worthless. I hate fighting Longbowmen, 1 kills a swordman.
1460 AD - The troops are resting from taking Dover.
1465 AD - York is ours at no cost, and we gain more slave labor. The science leader is sent to the Gulag, for he continued to research Chemistry.
1470 AD - London falls! England is hurting - They want to discuss peace. However, I am not going to break our alliances. ROTHLMAO as dozens of Egyptian War Chariots move toward England.
1475 AD - Yakutsk is growing again, as the great irragation project pays off. The troops get a needed breather. The France take Hasting, hmmm... they will pay for this. Laugh as I watch a War Chariot kill a spearman in the middle ages. ;)
1480 AD - Troop heading toward there next targets.
1485 AD - Cantebury falls. More free workers. The Egyptians capture Warwick :(
1490 AD to 1495 AD - The terrible is upset, for we are running out of English cities to take.
1500 AD - Economics is completed, and Metallurgy is ordered. I want better units orders Lee the terrible. 38 turns to Smith's trading company.
1505 AD - The last English city is in sight - Brighton!
1510 AD - Russia celebrates the end of the English :)
1515 AD - But Lee, the English are gone. Lee argues back, then why to I still see cities with there name? Troops "accidently" cross the border into French territory and another war begins.
1520 AD - Whoops, we are now at war with France.
1525 AD - The killer swordman from France kills a musketman???? Nottingnham falls - more free workers. The English there are happy that we "liberated" them.
1530 AD - Military tradition is on it's way :flamedevi Chartes falls. Lee goes to trade with Egypt selling them some luxuries.. Lee hates to do it, but Rome get Banking for $50 and $35 a turn. He secures much money for Russia, then is killed in a boating "accident" on the way home  Wait a minute, didn't our last leader die in a "boating accident"? Just when he was having fun beating up France.
Summary -
Up next - Brian J
Good luck - you have 3 wonders that should complete during your reign. You can decide what you want to do with France.
You have 2 settlers by London in case of "openings"
BrianJ Jan 13, 2002, 09:15 PM Wow, Lee the warmonger! I wasn't expecting war with England
I'll play tomorrow morning bright and early..
BrianJ Jan 14, 2002, 09:34 AM Brianov V comes to power in the chaos following Lee the Terrible's death in a 'boating accident'.
Upon investigation, all clues point to an assassination, by France! They have ther dirty mits all over this! Brianov declares. They must be destroyed! Revenge will be ours! Those dastardly French will find Brianov the Bloody will not fall so easily to their assassins!
1540:
French swordsmen fall on our troops. A severely damaged Knight falls to a lowly French warrior and a brave Russian swordsman falls to a sneak attack of 2 French swordsmen. Our troops capture Hastings from the French! A backup Russian Knight avenges our dead Knight and defeats the barbaric French warrior!
A valiant assault on Paris fails, but with no loss of Russian life. 2 French Pikemen were destroyed, with the remaining one injured!
1545:
Paris falls! Brianov the Bloody does not raze it. An assault on Orleans begins. Our valiant knights are held back by Spearmen, Spearmen! The general of the Orleans attack is beheaded on the spot!
Brianov eyes the Egyptians suspiciously, wonders why there are 12 Egyptian war chariots stuffed into the area around Warwick..
1550 - 1555:
The French are building Bachs Cathedral. Brianov laughs! Our troops are at their gates and they build wonders!
We defeat an archer in Orleans and take it! The French empire is now split in three.
The French are now building Copernicus Observatory.. much better protection than pikemen.. hehe
Avignon and Tours fall to our cavalry!
1560 - 1565:
Our workers between Smolensk and Oxford inhale swamp gas which makes them so giddy they clear a Jungle square that is not even in a city radius! Knight production switched to Cossack in all cities! Navigation studied. 2 knight units lost on assault on Marseilles and Lyons. Both cities are still French.
1570:
The impatient Brianov the Bloody orders a cossack rushed in Oxford!
The war effort slows as Brianov waits for reinforcements.
1575:
The Germans are building Magellans Voyage!
Marseilles falls to the Russians!
1580:
Copernicus's Observatory built in Minsk!
1585:
Navigation is discovered, and physics is started. Odessa will start Magellans Voyage.
Lyons is taken! Our cossack enters battle! It defeats a lowly pikeman and begins an assault on Rheims!
1590:
Our mighty Cossacks enter battle but fail to take Rheims.
There are riots due to the war. Brianov the Bloody allow them to continue, as war is nearly over!
Bescanon is ours!
1595:
Rheims falls to Cossacks!
The last French city is Newcastle. The enslaved English will soon be 'liberated'!
1600:
Newcastle falls to us! The English throw us a parade! The Dastardly French are no more! Our past leaders are avenged! With the war over, Brianov switches much production over to peacetime. Banks and Aqueducts are started. French cities are building Temples. Brianov uses some of his treasury to rush temples in French cities.
1605:
Trades Wines and Silks to Greece for 18 gold per turn. Some Knights and Cossacks move up near Egypt. To fortify Russian cities in the north.. Yeah, thats it. Egypt is our friend..;) Tried trading with other cive but they wanted our tech for their luxuries.. Told them where to stuff it.
1610:
Bachs Cathedral is completed in Moscow! Good thing we got it before the French attacked us!
Since there are no wonders available, Moscow starts catching up on much needed improvements.
Brianov the Bloody, tired after the long war, retires to his dascha in Kiev, bravely takes a boat out for fishing, unafraid of 'boating accidents' now that the French are no more!
BrianJ Jan 14, 2002, 09:47 AM How to win this war.. Conquest?! :D
If we attack the Egyptians it may be tough.. they have musketmen now. maybe we should wait until we have a bigger force of Cossacks built up, or we can afford to upgrade our knights. Although Zed-F no doubt wants to play with cossacks ;)
We need to build up the English and French cities, add temples, muskets etc. Right now they are held by Knights. A bit of a waste.
Germany is matching us tech for tech right now.. maybe even leading.. I'd hate for them to get panzers wouldnt you guys?
OTOH germany doesnt seem to have Iron, never mind saltpeter!
Greece and Rome both have saltpeter. Spoke too soon, Germany and Rome managed to get cities in Greek lands that have all the resources they need.. Rome's city has both Iron and Saltpeter. Interesting how that worked out considering how far it is from Rome. Did the AI know Iron and Saltpeter would be there?
Well it was fun destroying the evil French! Good luck to Zed-F!
EDIT: one other thing.. The Iron between Hastings and Newcastle is a long way from any town.. should we build a colony or city on it to lock up that gap? Problem would be it would take a lot of productive squares from the surrounding cities.
Zed-F Jan 14, 2002, 09:59 AM Ok, got it...
Might be a while to play though as I have an turn to take in RBD2 first.
BrianJ Jan 15, 2002, 12:32 PM Do we need more players, if people are finding their turns come up too fast?
Zed-F Jan 15, 2002, 02:21 PM I certainly would not object... I'd rather play in more games less frequently, than in fewer games more frequently. I might have to start self-limiting my playing to 10 turns -- more than that and I start monopolizing the computer too much and/or staying up too late (especially at wartime! :rocket3: )
LKendter Jan 15, 2002, 03:50 PM I vote for no more players.
One of the nice things is getting to go again quickly.
Last night I have nothing to play despite this game, Greece and France succession games. I was to busy to make a real dent on the Iroqoius anyone plays game.
BrianJ Jan 15, 2002, 05:51 PM I dont see why, at this stage of the game we can't have a 10-20 turn rule, so people can play as many or few turns as they want?
If you dont have time to take the full 20 turns, pass or play a few turns, sothat the game can continue? Would this be acceptable for everyone?
LKendter Jan 15, 2002, 06:08 PM No arguement here.
My succession game rule has always been UP to 20 turns.
Mother Russia Jan 15, 2002, 08:50 PM Sure is. I did that earlier, I only played 7 turns!
Zed-F Jan 16, 2002, 01:58 AM Me bad boy, staying up late... ;)
Ok, I think I'll skip most of the write up. I started off my turn at peace, reorganizing all the city production and moving our knights and cossacks up to Minsk while dispersing our musketmen throughout the land to cover our English and French cities. I left a few knights between Rouen and Vladivostok to cover off raiders and the like. Then, I declared war! My objective was to do as much damage as possible to Egypt without mobilizing to a war footing -- that is, almost every city remained on "peacetime" development items, except Vladivostok which couldn't do anything useful so kept building musketmen.
I had about a dozen Knights and 9 or so Cossacks to work with. Since I wasn't building any more, I had to be somewhat careful with how I proceeded. Furthermore I wanted to capture rather than destroy Egypt's core cities so I had to keep my forces in the cities to prevent them from flipping while I was starving them and building culture. This made for a slow war. Nevertheless I achieved my objective; both Heiropolis and Thebes have been captured and are well on their way to being subdued (Heiropolis is 100% secure now from flipping.)
We're now into the Industrial age and 1 turn away from Steam Power. We have a sizeable bank account that's growing at a good clip (needed for the war to purchase libraries for culture.) Corruption is an insurmountable problem in anything that's not within a screen of Moscow or Minsk due to the number of cities we control, so don't even bother with anything that isn't in that area. Whether Yakutsk is irrigated or not is now irrelevant as it's hopelessly lost to corruption. :( Maybe if we bother to get or trade for Democracy (the AIs have it) it might improve matters. Rome seems to be the most advanced of the AI civs, not Germany.
Right now the army is in Thebes preventing it from being culture-flipped while it starves and waits for border expansion. There are a couple miscellaneous troops around pestering various other Egyptian cities as well, but our forces are stretched somewhat thin. However, Egypt's pretty much out of mobile attackers and is left with only obsolete city defenders for the most part. It might be possible to get in towards the last couple of major cities in the southern half of Egypt and take them out simultaneously to prevent culture-flipping, but you'll have to be careful. Odessa finally finished Magellan's and is now ready to start producing replacement Cossacks. Otherwise most of the remaining cities are still producing city improvements. :) Change it if you like if you want to prosecute the war more vigorously.
You're up next, Mother Russia! Have fun finishing off Egypt... :hammer:
EDIT: I just saw a post at the main Civ Fanatics Center site that describes the mechanics of culture-flipping to some degree. Apparently our captured Egyptian cities are not as safe from culture-flipping as I had thought (based on garrison size relative to pop,) and should be starved down to size 1 to minimize the risk that they flip. Maybe I should have just razed them and built new cities on the same locations, since we have Sun Tzu and Pyramids...
EDIT: Since we now have Nationalism, and we're close to defeating Egypt, you may want to mobilize for war. Just make sure that any city you don't need producing military units is producing banks or universities and the like so that we get a good development boost as well until the war ends and we can demobilize.
Zed-F Jan 16, 2002, 01:59 AM save file...
BrianJ Jan 17, 2002, 08:04 PM Is Mother Russia playing? I want to see how fast we destroy egypt! :D
Good turn Zed, war is fun.. :sniper: :egypt: :hammer:
Mother Russia Jan 17, 2002, 08:13 PM Sorry, wasn't feeling good on Thursday and so I didn't get a chance to start but I'll have it finished by tomorrow morning.
BrianJ Jan 17, 2002, 08:42 PM Hey MR,
Hope you are feeling better.. I didn't mean to rush you.. :)
Have fun!
So, anybody, have we decided on an approach for this game? Looks like conquest so far.. and we have the Cossacks to do it! :crazyeyes
Zed-F Jan 17, 2002, 09:38 PM Well, looks more like domination than conquest so far. If we finish off our continent and get enough culture going everywhere to expand the borders, we should be most of the way there... our continent is bigger than the greek/roman/german one. We probably will still need to attack one of them, however.
The alternative would be to go for the space race, though we really have too many cities (and hence too much corruption) to be on an optimal path for that. If we do want to go that way we should just make sure we own everything close to our capitals and sell off any extraneous cities that are too far away to be worthwhile. We could also try for a cultural victory but we could probably win the space race before then.
LKendter Jan 17, 2002, 09:58 PM :crazyeyes :crazyeyes :crazyeyes :crazyeyes
Hmmm.... I didn't realize I was playing with Sharks.
After blowing out England in under 20 years, and a start on France, I guess I brought out the War Monger in everone.

BrianJ Jan 17, 2002, 10:26 PM LK, well you did start it! :D :crazyeyes
Did you have a preferred goal for winning?
Zed-F Jan 18, 2002, 11:31 AM If we did decide to go to a space victory after we wipe out the Egyptians (to make sure we keep the cities near Minsk) it would be funny to sell each of the other 3 civs random cities on our continent (i.e. ones not close to our capital), and see if they decide to duke it out to gain supremacy over the dirt-eating hopelessly corrupted crrap they'll get out of it. Of course we'd sell all the improvements out of them first... :)
Mother Russia Jan 18, 2002, 08:11 PM Hey guys! This turn wasn't one of my best. Let's see, We built Newton's University, captured some Egyptian cities (they only have 3 left) and the Greeks are killing the Romans. Sorry I couldn't kill those Egyptians. I had them down to two cities and then one flipped on me on the last turn. Good Luck.
LKendter Jan 19, 2002, 01:48 PM Note to mother Russia - Please save the game at the END OF TURN I am stuck with a lot to do again in 1774  I know this isn't the first time.
1774 AD - Stuck playing part of turn over. Abydos infantry kills the Longbowen, to rescue worker stack. I put Abydos into starve mode to reduce flip risk. If it flips we lose a TON of workers. I use up a block of cash, and all of our musketman become rifleman. I rush a lot of temples work on cultural border locks. Rush the factory in Sverdlovsk. We need more rifleman.
 I wake up workers in Heliopolis doing NOTHING?
1776 AD - Begin research medicine. Next target Scientific Method. Without this the Palace being built would have been completed in Sevastopol This is the big danger in succession games - somewhere communications between players screwed up BIG time. Asyut is our again. Alexander has an attitude, I tell him to shove is request.
1780 AD - Avaris falls. Hieraconpolis falls. Egypt is dead :) Hmmm... Who is next :flamdevi: No one sir, we don't have boats to cross the ocean with.
1782 AD - Collect attack units near Moscow, building rifleman, completing rail net. I was tempting by Romes alliance offer versus the Greeks. However, since we have no ships ... However, I trade him Iron and Saltpeter
1784 AD to 1814 AD - Railnet, cultural border expansions, build rifleman. During this time we also researched at 4 turns a tech, got Wall Street, Got Theory of Evolution WASTING 188 shields (giving us Free Artisry and Replaceable parts!).
Summary - Watch the border expansion near Cantenbury - We should eventually get more gems on-line.
Concentrate the rail net one two things
1 - Connecting all cities.
2 - Near our low corruption cities.
We will win on of 2 ways - 20000 point culture in Moscow in a little over 100 years or Domination by taking over Germany *KEEPING* the cites. Next person up need to quickly decide if you want to invade. This game is over before space race can happen.
The palace in Oxford is for Hoover Dam!
BrianJ Jan 19, 2002, 02:58 PM I got it. Thanks!
Should finish tonight, if not, tomorrow morning..
BrianJ Jan 19, 2002, 03:22 PM Lee,
Is there any reason we havent upgraded our Riflemen to Infantry? Is it simply not necessary? A waste of money?
It will cost under 500 gold to upgrade them.
Same with that stack of knights?
LKendter Jan 19, 2002, 05:32 PM Knight can NOT upgrade. One of the this that SUCKS with any special unit is that you can NOT upgrade to them.
The only reason I didn't upgrade to infantry - I was waiting to hit $1500 to do it. We now have wall street. I want to get maximum interest.
BrianJ Jan 19, 2002, 07:14 PM Consul Brianov is swept into power on a platform of Building, Health and Preparation.
1816:
In his first act in power, Brianov instructs workers to start cleaning up areas around Smolensk. Fields of wheat are covered by inedible orange goo, causing starvation! More workers are to be recruited to keep up on the cleaning necessary in the Industrual age. It seems like we have more foreign, slow workers than we have our own!
In another act, he attempts to teach 9 divisions of Knights how to carry rifles, but they refuse! (Why can't I upgrade Knights?) The Germans have Muskets, so Knights will be rather ineffective.
As for preparation, Russia is unprepared to go to war on another continent. We'll need more galleons and more troops to ferry across to handle an invasion.
1818:
Cleaned up pollution around Smolensk and Odessa, ordered a couple of Hospitals to be built.
1820:
Moved workers around
1822:
Same.
1824:
Brianov grants Universal Sufferage to the people! (or more specifically, the female people)
Rome cancels our agreement for Iron, causing us to lose our suppl of spices! They now want Iron and Steam Power! (Ha!) Brianov politely declines. "We love the Czarina celebrations are promptly cancelled in most cities.
We develop Electronics and study Refining.
1826:
Smolensk starts the Iron Works. (This is going to be a HIGH prodcution city!). Moscow starts the Hoover Dam. Efforts to build the Hoover dam in Oxford confounded when engineers discover that there is no river by Oxford to build the Dam on! The head Engineer is sent to a gulag south of Avaris!
The Palace is still being built, and will complete in 31 turns. We will have to get another wonder before then! I thought about wasting the shields, but it seems like eventually we will get something to build..
In fact, we switch to Espionage so we can build the Intelligence Agency in Oxford.
1828:
More worker movement.
1830:
1832:
1834:
Greece declares war on the Romans! Brianov vows to stay out of the conflict for now. Interesting strategy point here. Rome has Saltpeter in the isolated town of Syracuse. If Greece gets it, they will have 2 Saltpeter.. Syracuse is not connected to Rome for some reason, so Rome and Germany dont have Saltpeter. If Greece gets Syracuse they could trade it. But if WE get Syracuse.. hmmm ;)
Espionage developed. Refining started. The Palace being built in Oxford is converted into a Spy agency! 18 shields are lost. Oh well.
1836:
Roman vessels enter our waters but seem to have another destination in mind. They are ignored for now.
1838:
We lost one source of Saltpeter and gained another. Not that we need it now!
1840:
We lost our supply of Coal near Smolensk just as the Iron works was completed! Another popped up somewhere else.
After years of ignoring the Treasury, Brianov notices that we are losing money! more trades than the Rome trade must have expired! Trade iron to Romans for 50 gold per turn. We trade medicine to the Germans for Furs, World Map, 28 gold per turn and 60 gold. Medicine to Greeks for 30 gold and 24 per turn. We are rich, Sire, Rich, Rich, Rich!
1842:
We Love the Czarina Day celebrated across the empire.
Elephantine's Governor produces a Mighty Cossack and offers to train a Knight? He is promptly beheaded. The new Governor knows enough to keep producing Mighty Cossacks!
1844:
Zzzz
1846:
Thebes' Governor tries to start a Knight after completing a Cossack! he suffers the same fate as the Elephantine Governor. What is with these Egyptians?? Hmm.. now all our cities are doing it.. strange.
Smolensk set to build Battlefield Medicine. Nothing like healing in enemy territory!
1848:
Alexandria wants to build a Longbowman. The governor is laughed out of town!
1850:
After a long reign of 40 years, Brianov retires to his Dascha near Kiev for a well deserved retirement. He leaves the Russian Empire with a mighty navy and invasion force, a clean environment, and a sound medical department. Rail now links most cities and roads connect all others.
Germany, with their lack of Saltpeter, should be easy pickings, unless, of course, they have Riflemen.. Two more galleys are on their way to Moscow. They can always be loaded somewhere closer of course.. like Kiev.
BrianJ Jan 19, 2002, 07:21 PM Brianov sat across from the fortune teller, his wrinkled face frowning.
"The man with the Sword, Consul, he runs towards the Germans!" She says.
"That makes no sense woman, stop speaking in riddles!" Brianov states.
"Look at the map!" She snaps back!
Back in his Dascha, Brianov looks at a map of the world. He notices the Russian Empire. Its shape.. It is the Man with the Sword! he smiles, and awaits word from Zed, the new Consul.

That ocurred to me after a few turns, when I noticed we had Wall Street! :)
I didn't know you cant upgrade to a UU.. interesting. Well the Knights will be useful against Germany anyway most likely, again, unless they have developed Riflemen.
Zed-F Jan 20, 2002, 10:28 AM Ok got it.
Zed-F Jan 20, 2002, 11:54 AM Not much point in a write-up this time. Just built some infrastructure in less well-developed towns and military in more-developed towns. We got Hoover Dam and Battlefield Medicine for wonders, and Steel, Combustion, and Mass Production for techs. We're now researching Motorized Transport. I played 10 turns.
We have about 30 Cossacks and 10 or so Galleons (which are readily upgraded to Transports) ready to go, along with several Ironclads and a Destroyer or so for escort duty. So, the next player should feel free to load stuff up and start the assault. We shoulod get tanks soon. Then we need to research Flight so we get Airports. Since I just started Motorized Transport you could of course switch techs to get Airport sooner -- might not be a bad idea.
Mother Russia Jan 20, 2002, 04:53 PM Got it, I'll probably get around to it tomorrow morning.
BrianJ Jan 22, 2002, 05:08 PM Is Germany dead yet? or did you send our mighty Cossacks against Greece? Or Rome? huh? huh? ;)
:D
Mother Russia Jan 22, 2002, 05:49 PM My internet is down at home so I can only get on at work where I don't have Civ. So I apologize, no turn for me this time around. Hopefully it should be back up soon, I wrote a nasty e-mail.
BrianJ Jan 23, 2002, 07:52 PM Ouch.. you havent had much luck have you?
Hope you get it fixed soon..
LKendter Jan 23, 2002, 10:31 PM Pre-turn
Move our out of date Galleons into port and upgrade to transports.
1872 AD - The transports are loaded. Bite me - Greece and Germany sign a MPP, followed my Germany declares war on Rome.
1876 AD - Oh, I am sorry Mr. Rome. I didn't mean to attack you. But, I know that the MPP with Germany will get tripped. Besides, nobody likes you :flamedevi:
1878 AD - It begins - Lugdunum falls.
1880 AD - Lutetia and Cumae fall. We are losing some cosacks taking the cities, but the attack begins. Tanks now starting to be produced.
1882 AD and 1884 AD - Moving troops to there next target.
1886 AD - After a break in the action, Viroconium falls. Rome falls, and we get Shakespeare's Theater - For good measure, Pisae falls.
1888 AD - Finally, I get a chance to rush a temple. Since this is domination, the faster we get temples, the more squares we control :)
1890 AD - Troops collecting near the new Roman capital.
Summary - Keep attacking Rome. Rush more temples if cash stays above 1000. Every square counts for Domination.
BrianJ Jan 24, 2002, 10:47 AM I'll try to play tonight..
I'm back at work now (after a month vacation)!
sgrig Jan 24, 2002, 01:59 PM Just a quick reminder.
Ikendter talks about rushing temples, but since you play as Russians, you are scientific so you get cheap libraries and universities, which produce more culture than temples (4 for university, I think, and 3 for library vs 2 for temple). So maybe it would be better to rush-buid libraries  ...
unless you already have them ...
Zed-F Jan 24, 2002, 02:33 PM Depends. Distant corrupted cities aren't much good for anything other than growing people -- preferably happy people to boost our score -- especially if they're on fresh water. In some cases it's better to get a temple as it allows for pop growth and allows the cities to start a cathedral, especially in the earlier stages of a domination victory when you expect to hold that city for quite a while.
On the other hand, building a Library is good when you need the border to expand quickly, or in this case, as you point out, simply because it's cheaper. In the final stages of a Domination victory you typically just want to get it over with as fast as possible. If the city is never going to grow beyond 6 anyway, a Library may be a better choice, assuming we have enough luxuries to keep a size 6 city happy, which ought not to be hard. At this stage of the game a Library's the right choice.
Note you can't build a cathedral until you've built a temple, nor a university until you've built a library, so really those are the only 2 reasonable choices.
BrianJ Jan 24, 2002, 10:22 PM News from the Front-lines!
1890:
Our allies the Germans take Veii from the evil Romans!
Brianov the Militaristic takes control of the Russian empire!
1892:
Cumae, Antium, Hispalis and Ravena fall to our mighty armies!
1894:
Neapolis is ours! Our mighty armies approach Pompeii!
Another transport steams south to Syracuse!
Germany is moving through our Roman holdings to approach Pompeie, but they will be too late!
1896:
We take Pompeii! Our Elite Knights march into the city and occupy it!
1898:
The Greeks take Syracuse, which should have rightfully been ours! Our forces retreat out of Greek lands.
1900:
Our cultural influence spreads across the Roman countryside. It is noticed that the Greeks now have Cavalry. Money is taken away from research to power our war machine!
1902:
1904:
The Governor of Riga is court-marshalled for attempting to train a swordsman! He is taken to a hospital near Moscow to undergo psychiatric examination!
1906:
We discover flight! Our scientists study computers. We enter the Modern age! We discover Rocketry!
1908:
1910:
Construction of airports begins.
1912:
Airport rushed in Cumae for airlift. Costs us 600 gold, half our treasury.
Dateline 1926:
"General, what is the status of our armies?"
"Mr. Brianov Sir! We have 73 divisions of tanks, 24 artillary, several bombers, fighters and cruise missiles waiting to crush the enemy Sir!"
"Excellent! Where are our troops?"
"Sir! Troops are being airlifted into Cumae on a regular basis. Large armies wait your instructions at Pisae, Rome, Antium and Lugdunum! Transports wait in the arctic to Germany's north and near Pharsalos on the Greek coast! The foolish Greeks and Germans suspect nothing!"
"Excellent. We will wait."
"Wait Sir? All alliance agreements have run out, we are ina position to strike! Neither country can withstand our mighty armies!"
"Yes, General I know. We are unstoppable. However, the invasion will wait for a stronger, younger leader. For I grow old and weary. See to it that my heir is updated with the status of the armies. I dont suspect the line of Brianov will return to the throne before Russia dominates the world! I want a full report of our conquest, mind you!
"Yes Sir!" General Zed salutes and helps the frail old man to his home. He leaves with a smile on his face.
Zed-F Jan 25, 2002, 09:47 PM Dateline 1930 AD (2 turns into my round):
"Today the German and Greek governments surrendered all political and military power to the Russian Federation. In a glorious ceremony in Moscow, Catherine the Terrible received Bismark's and Alexander's oaths of fealty, given in exchange for their miserable lives. Unfortunately, the citizens of their respective countries were generally ignorant of the details of the ceremony, due to their lack of telephones..."
4 German and 1 Greek cities captured, with troops in position to capture another 2 or 3 German and 3 Greek cities. Total military and scientific supremacy. You do the math. :)
Our score was 1449, which isn't too great. However, (a) it was only Warlord difficulty, and (b) looking at the histograph, we were somewhat late bloomers.
Go ahead and download Brian's last turn and play the game out if you want the score in your hall of fame.
BrianJ Jan 26, 2002, 12:17 AM Congrats Zed-F!
Gee, if I had played just 2 more turns.. :D
I kinda figured it was nearly over, and decided to call it quits so someone else could have 1 more turn.. :)
Thanks for a great game everyone!
Clubber Jan 28, 2002, 12:28 PM Good story, Guys. Glad you kept posting updates. Too many times I've been following a tale only for it to quit before the end. Like reading a book with the last page missing. Thanks !!
