Does anyone know whether the random seed option exists in IV ? I have not seen it in the options menu . barring that, does anyone know if the random seed is preserved or not.. will the actions remain the same or change if a turn in played over and over ?

I'm pretty sure it's preserved automatically.

I don't know if it's based on your game settings but playing on the lowest level I saved and attacked a barbarian village several times, my archers were destroyed most of the time, but after several tries won and captured the village. Perhaps the seed isn't preserved on lower levels or not at all.

I think that it is preserved automatically. I have tried reloading multiple times from a save and typically combat & goody huts give precisely the same results.
