View Full Version : Hopefully just in time for Halloween! ShiroKobbure Oct 29, 2005, 05:01 PM Hopefully just in time for Halloween, my last try at vlad tepes any comments or suggestions? Quinzy Oct 29, 2005, 05:15 PM WOW. great! Supa Oct 29, 2005, 05:31 PM I like it. The background is well chosen. Maybe the "star" color could be more orange and the jewel less red ? Ogedei_the_Mad Oct 29, 2005, 05:34 PM Nice. He looks scarier. :) utahjazz7 Oct 29, 2005, 06:19 PM I think it looks really good. Bjornlo Oct 29, 2005, 06:59 PM well done. If possible, maybe add just a hint of a droop to his moustache. Sword_Of_Geddon Oct 29, 2005, 08:54 PM Shiro this is a stupid request, but this time around could you give him the classic Dracula look for the Industrial Age? :mischief: Plotinus Oct 29, 2005, 10:27 PM You mean the Bela Lugosi look... That would be rather cool, although I don't know if it would really fit this LH! ShiroKobbure Oct 30, 2005, 12:03 AM I think this time, I did a better job on making the dacian era of the head TopGun Oct 30, 2005, 08:30 AM Awesome! Livelike almost! ShiroKobbure Oct 30, 2005, 11:19 AM ideas for industrial and modern? Im looking for indoor backgrounds Sword_Of_Geddon Oct 30, 2005, 12:47 PM Um, Dracula's castle interior from the classic movie? :mischief: Snorken Oct 30, 2005, 12:51 PM Looks great! :) jorde Oct 30, 2005, 02:54 PM Awesome. Definitely a complete improvement from your previous version, and one of your best leaderheads so far (though it's becoming more and more difficult to tell which one is your best right now) BTW; is there the possibility of you sending me the texture you're using on this leaderhead? Not only the one with the moustache painted on, but also the base texture, since it looks so great (and less reddish than the one I use) ShiroKobbure Oct 30, 2005, 05:50 PM jorde- yes I will send it tonight. are your PMs cleared? well what do you think so far? industrial is based off of Avram Iancu. Any ideas for modern? Sword_Of_Geddon Oct 30, 2005, 05:58 PM err...classic dracula look? :mischief: Quinzy Oct 30, 2005, 06:01 PM traditional romanian feathers?.... ShiroKobbure Oct 30, 2005, 06:44 PM well any suggestions? better ideas? Bjornlo Oct 30, 2005, 06:45 PM Love it. He has such a "good" demented evil look to him Sword_Of_Geddon Oct 30, 2005, 06:46 PM No classic dracula look...:( but still good Shiro..:) ShiroKobbure Oct 30, 2005, 06:47 PM well, i just dont want to offend Romanian people, I want to give them a head they can use for civ3 Sword_Of_Geddon Oct 30, 2005, 06:49 PM Well I doubt Romanians would be offended, since this guy was the historicall basis for Dracula I think. jorde Oct 30, 2005, 08:27 PM jorde- yes I will send it tonight. are your PMs cleared? Yes, I have space for a couple more, though I'd prefer it if you sent it by mail, but do whatever you find easier BadKharma Oct 30, 2005, 09:20 PM Well I doubt Romanians would be offended, since this guy was the historicall basis for Dracula I think. Vlad "the impaler's" father was inducted into the order of dracul when fighting the turks I believe. Dracula means son of dracul. TopGun Oct 30, 2005, 09:32 PM err...classic dracula look? :mischief: I'd rather not have him look like Dracula... Count Dracula is a fictional character without any solid historical reference. I like the industrial rendition with the fur hat. TopGun Oct 30, 2005, 09:33 PM well any suggestions? better ideas? Very nice this modern guy. He looks smart, yet devious. I like that, it epitomizes the character of Vlad Tepes, IMO. Sword_Of_Geddon Oct 30, 2005, 10:04 PM Just trying to be fun Topgun. ;) If the majority wants it realistic than so be it. Ares de Borg Oct 31, 2005, 04:15 AM Great work, as usual. :) Interestingly enough, I'm doing some research on the history of the vampire myths in literature, history and culture this semester. It's quite surprising to learn that Vlad Tepes has nothing to do with Dracula. Why, you will ask? When Abraham Stoker wrote his novel that later became famous as "Dracula" he finished his story of the "serbian vampire" and baptised it "Lord Vampire". Not quite a catchy title, huh? Bram went to his favourite library where he looked in some old books for a better title. While he was reading, he found a name that he mistook for the serbian word for "devil", "dracul". Happy to have a new title, he just renamed his book without even knowing whose name he just borrowed. In reality, "dracul" was a title of honor, given to fighters of the so-called Order of the dragon that fought the Ottomans. Not quite that romantic, right? ;) aaglo Oct 31, 2005, 04:21 AM well any suggestions? better ideas? It looks great :) How about replacing the modern guys eyeglasses with round (john lennon -type) glasses :) Quinzy Oct 31, 2005, 06:36 AM as stated at http://www.donlinke.com/drakula/vlad.htm: King Sigismund of Hungary, who became the Holy Roman Emperor in 1410, founded a secret fraternal order of knights called the Order of the Dragon to uphold Christianity and defend the Empire against the Ottoman Turks. Its emblem was a dragon, wings extended, hanging on a cross. Vlad III’s father (Vlad II) was admitted to the Order around 1431 because of his bravery in fighting the Turks. From 1431 onward Vlad II wore the emblem of the order and later, as ruler of Wallachia, his coinage bore the dragon symbol. The word for dragon in Romanian is "drac" and "ul" is the definitive article. Vlad III’s father thus came to be known as "Vlad Dracul," or "Vlad the dragon." In Romanian the ending "ulea" means "the son of". Under this interpretation, Vlad III thus became Vlad Dracula, or "the son of the dragon." (The word "drac" also means "devil" in Romanian. The sobriquet thus took on a double meaning for enemies of Vlad Tepes and his father.) Aion Oct 31, 2005, 09:43 AM I hate Halloween, but... WOW ! Awesome work, Shiro! The only thing I don't like about it, is that the moustache doesn't seem to fit to an ancient Dacian. A full beard would be better IMHO. On the other hand, I understand if you want to keep the moustache througout the eras. ShiroKobbure Nov 02, 2005, 01:53 AM what do you think? Since Vlad was Dracula son of Dracul (dragon) and part of the order of the dragon. I put one of the crests on his suit. Ares de Borg Nov 02, 2005, 02:06 AM Great idea. :-) Bjornlo Nov 02, 2005, 02:30 AM Very cool. Dracula in his salad days as a college professor... night school only of course. ShiroKobbure Nov 02, 2005, 09:29 AM modern era is always the hardest, i dont have any good suit props, and im usually too lazy to make one in photoshop. Regardless i think this one turned out very nice. With the last 2 Vlads I made I was always dissapointed in my work. This time I think I did Romania a good head. The Last Conformist Nov 02, 2005, 09:42 AM  I love those eyeglasses! Supa Nov 02, 2005, 09:43 AM He's very good. Sword_Of_Geddon Nov 02, 2005, 02:18 PM You did a great job this time Shiro. You should be proud of this new incarnation of evil...lol Snorken Nov 02, 2005, 07:53 PM I relly love the ancient era. Rob (R8XFT) Nov 02, 2005, 11:09 PM Very good :goodjob: !! absolut_nonsens Nov 04, 2005, 10:38 AM Great work ShiroKobbure! I like your work with ruler Vlad and with all the others too. I guess you're a perfectionist. Thanks for announcing me. How can I use Ruler Vlad Dracul in my C3C and replace a civ from there with a Romanian/Dacian one? Please help. Romania/Dacia should be an agricultural and religious or commercial civ. absolut_nonsens Nov 04, 2005, 10:41 AM PS. And in the last era, vald is better devilishly smyling. |
