View Full Version : Oh Dark Sheer help me oh please Master of unit creation

Alright I was about to release my realism mod when I decided that I felt it could have a lot more options very capable of making modern combat much more realistic. I myself am working on a modification of the Carrier for a WWII style carrier and don't know how you do it, but i'm making ground. However to my point since the carrier is taking so long I was wondering if you could do me a favor in making a unit for me. I know you already have one or two requests lined up and I'm in no rush being my carrier will take some time but if you could halp me with a unit, I would be in your debt (how I could repay it, i'm not sure).
So I was wondering if you could make a Mobile Scud to use. The reason is the cruise missle is a U.S. ordinance only and I think it would make a lot more sense to make it America's Unique Unit. However I think the rest of the world has to have an option to counter this, which in our world is the Russian Scud Missle on mobile launcher which has been highly proliferated and makes sense as a multi cultural weapon. I searched the web for an hour and could only come up with 2 pictures! one isn't on the interenet so im gonna attach it. The other should appear on the top and represents the best model I could find. I wish I could find other angle's, I'll keep looking but even my precious Google could only deliver these few to me. One thing is that they are differnt models so have a few differences in look. The grey model attached is the Scud B Launcher, the one on top is the Scud C. Whichever is easier to create I would be happy to accept. If you can't, I understand, but I need some help because im already way past my expected release date :(. Otherwise, thanks either way.

Scipio Africanu Jan 03, 2002, 11:56 PM This pic is from the rear of a destroyed SAM missle launcher. It is supposed to be very similier to the Scud Launcher so here it is for what its worth, which isn't much.

I will try to cook up something for your scud launcher. You want it to be a missile by itself (ie a mobile missile launcher which is a cruise missile unit in Civ3) or a missile transport? Of course a missile transport will not have attack flc but I think you can make it sort of like an artillery unit with longer range of bombardment ?

Scipio Africanu Jan 04, 2002, 02:23 AM Mucho's Gracias Dark Sheer. I'd like to have it mobile missle launcher which is a cruise missle unit. So to give a good counter for the cruise missle itself :).
The units aspects will be
Scud Missle Launcher
--------------------------
Attack - None
Defense - None
Movement - 3, to represent its on a fast moving vehicle
Bombard - A few points lower then the cruise missle
Rate of Fire - 2, because they take more time to prepare then the cruise for launch.

Unfortunatly my stats will be different for the unit because my realism mode has changed unit numbers to make combat more realistic for more modern units, though it isn't nearly as drastic as you might think. However, with any luck i'll be able to throw it on in and change them to compliment my mod. Whatever and whenever, a thousand thanks mano.

Scipio Africanu Jan 04, 2002, 04:03 AM No worries on the wait Dark Sheer, take your time because i'm gonna need it for my Carrier :). I attached two images by putting one in through url.
I used the [img] command to attach them. Click on the link that says [IMG] code under the forum rules list on any of the post's or if you are replying. It will tell you how to post pictures that are elsewhere on the net. Unfortunatly I don't know how to attach two pics through the attach file box further down below. Just incase, the easiest way to find a pics URL is to right click on it on the net and click on properties, it will give you the url that you can just copy and then paste onto the message.
By the way, is there anything I can do to repay this act of kindness your showing me? If its within my power and time constraints i'd be more then happy :).

Hehe, no worries. I should be posting the first prototype frame within the next 1-2 days and I will keep updating this thread until the unit is completed so it has no chance to fall off the page :lol:

Heh, I thought so too ;)
But its still a prototype and the final product is still about a week or so away :D

And when you say color, do you mean you want the launcher to have military fatigue on the body like the truck? If so it can be arranged ;) And usually what color is the missile? Green or sandy like what it is currently? I guess it depends on which country the photo come from right? A scud from middle east I would expect them to look sandy due to the desert terrain there :)
Just let me know the color scheme before I start apply it to the prototype and do the other 7 directions :D

As for the color, I sugest military green with a black or gray missile for instances.

And the color scheme idea is not bad. I still want a feedback from Scipio on the color though since this is his request as well :king:
And keep those suggestion coming as eventually the unit will be available for download by all. I am not creating it for my own consumption ;)

I am ok on working with this flc files as a past time ;)
My only concern is I sort of stuck at the moment and I am dying to continue with it (bad habit of mine, when start on something very hard to stop :lol: ). Anyway, with the current info I can now continue!! Will continue to post the progress on this thread :)

dannyevilcat Jan 10, 2002, 12:52 PM This unit isn't my request or anything but why does the vehicle shake at all? This the default animation, right? Why not just animate the Run, Attack ( or lauch), Death, and I guess Fidget? would it not also make it faster to create ;)

Dark Sheer Jan 12, 2002, 09:48 AM After taken into consideration what dannyevilcat has suggested I am now proceeding with fortify instead of wondering how the vehicle should shake in default :lol:
So here is the first direction for fortify (completed default, fidget and run) :D
I know the animation looks kinda funny when looped since fortify is not suppose to loop anyway ;) So please use your imagination and think how the animation stop after the missile is raised :)

Yeah, that works. But I think some might prefer to replace the destroyer with a modern destroyer ;) One of this example would be the LWC mod.
Dark Sheer Jan 13, 2002, 10:31 AM Ok, here is the final view of the scud launcher. The animated gif is a combination of two flc, fortify and attack (which is how Civ3 use the flc anyway) ;)
So, Scipio Africanu, if you got anything to add please let me know. Otherwise the unit should be completed within the next 1-2 days. The flc should have been completed by now but I was sick for the last 2 days :(
For now, just enjoy the view :king:

Scipio Africanu Jan 13, 2002, 02:49 PM Well im nearly finished with the default, all I have left is the W version. After that its a matter of cut and paste for the run animation and attack animation. The Death animation is gonna take some time again though but its coming along. If I could only finish it quicker I could get to the "Footman" or Medievel Swordsman.
Are you still planning on making that second set of missles? cause I think, given time, I can pick up the medievel swordsman still if you are.

Anyway, those are pretty fast as what he wanted is a longer missile and a thicker one. So its a matter of simple cut and paste :king:
Once I finish on that one I will work on a major one, which is musket infantry. Those napoleonic era infantries with nice plumes on their hat :D This will take some time as it is much harder to do human than vehicles ;)

The SR-71, Blackbird, I've included (hopefully if I can figger it out how to attach) some pics for the right angles, sorry the e/w perspective is so crummy.
For gameplay I thought it could be used as a non-immobile aircraft, 1/1/12 useful for both seeing those last bits of the map that take forever to send boats to, and for strategic spy-missions to make sure there is not an army coming down on your own badself :).

Lemme know if you need different angles/pics, I think I have a fair idea what you need, the pics I had grabbed were about 5 min web search, so there is a lot out there in case you need different size/perspective/etc. Though getting the Front-angle 2 o'clock view is tough to find, most like to shoot planes from below for some reason.
