Jan 05, 2002, 01:08 PM
Ok here goes for my first commentary!

The mighty emperor Lord Chuck takes over the mighty Japanese empire in 2710 B.C. Our majestic city of Kyoto rests on a beautiful crystal-clear lake, surrounded by grass, a few hills, and even a roaming herd of thunderous beasts we will refer to as "horses." Our workers are in the mountains mining, and some nearby lands are irrigated using precious water from the lake.

2710 BC: The mining is stopped becasue it will be several generations before our people move from the fertile grasslands to work the mighty hills. Instead, they will mine the grasslands because irrigation provides no added benefit under despotism and since the workers are there anyway, why not have them make more shields? Our intrepid explorer pushes east, and the warrior in Kyoto is awoken to quickly scout to the south.

2670: Mining and exploring.

2630: Our warrior climbs a vast peak to the West and gasps as he beholds the wonders that lie beyond. Vast graslands lay beyond with more horses and large tracts of vinyards. He reccomends that this area be settled! Our recently awoken warrior moves south.

2590: Our warrior in the south spies what looks to be a land bridge to the south. More exploration is determined necessary. Gold is found in the hills to the west! Warrior produced in Osaka - set to defend. Production set to temple.

2550: Our wise men have discoverd how to make devices out of clay that can be used to hold water! Fascinating! We tell them to look into making beter metals for our warriors. Even more wine is found to the west. This area looks like a good choke point to stop any other civilizations from expanding into our area. It must be controlled soon.

2510: Some deserts found in the west.

2470: Our home city produces a majestic temple. A new band of settlers is ordered to expand our empire.

2430: Mine completed in grasslands in Kyoto, and a new one is ordered. The land bridge to the south reveals more grasslands! An excellent discovery. Vast jungles sighted to the southwest.

2390: Gold spotted in the south, along with more jungle.

2350: Vast jungles to the south. Still no contact with other peoples!!??

2310: A solitary tribe and some jungles full of brightly colored plants is found in the south. We will move to investigate.

2270: Our intrepid explore sights land in the west. It looks as though this land connects to ours north of him. Must be investigated as soon as possible. He, however, moves south in an attempt to contact others.

2230: The Zhou tribe gives us 25 gold pieces. The science rate is boosted to take advantage of our new wealth.

2190: Ho hum.

2150: A road is started to connect our two magnificent cities with the spices located between them. Our newest band of settlers is formed and sent west!!

2110: Deserts found to the S, jungles W. Our settler will try for the area with wines and horses. It's a bit far, but will seal off that choke point so we can fill in the gaps. Wines produce extra food, so we might want to crack the whip here.

2070: Science is set to 80% at a -1 loss... but research time is cut in half!

2030: Our explorer in the south finds yet another band of solitary people, and hills filled with gold and sweet smelling fumes!

1990: Kyoto produces temple - rejoicing! Production set to granary to facilitate future expansion efforts. A temple is produced in Osaka! They will have some culture there now! Another intrepid settler is set for production.

1950: The Aryan tibe gives us a band of warriors. The ocean to the SW of Kyoto now appears to be a vast inland lake! I set our settler to move all the way to where I thought our city should be built.

That's it for me. Next person have fun!

gonzo_for_civ
Jan 06, 2002, 06:24 PM
The year is 1325 BC, the elated people of Japan must now look to a new leader. His name is gonzo(not really). He looks out from the mists and sees an empire that he knows will one day encompass the entire land. He's got some plans along the way, though.

1325 B.C. - found an orange civ
1300 B.C. - found Sparta a long ways south of Kyoto, founded Edo where previous Civ-leader had set settler to Go-to, Alexander told a warrior to get out of his territory, traded all of their gold for horseback riding, Elizabeth said get out(i did, despite advisor reports that the English army fears our warrior:lol: )
1275 B.C. - Joan d'Arc said "get out" later, she would eat those words.(gonzo grumbled to his lonely self)
1250 B.C. - Met blue civ(germans) Accidentally demanded 10 gold and got it. Gave them 5 to improve relations.
1225 B.C. - Declared war on France accidentally(no, really  )
1200 B.C. - Positioned warriors outside Lyons
1175 B.C. - Got lucky and razed Lyons only lozing a conscript warrior.
1150 B.C. - Heroic warrior died after killing his third French warrior.
1125 B.C. - Built Settler
1100 B.C. - France sued for peace. I got 14 gold and Mysticism:)
1075 B.C. - Explored
1050 B.C. - Explored:sleep:
1025 B.C. - Founded Satsuma on the northern most part of the continent near our cities.
1000 B.C. - I was thirsty so I connected a road to some wines near Tokyo  :) :goodjob:
975 B.C. - Explored
950 B.C. - Explored
925 B.C. - Explored
900 B.C. - How did you guess? Explored
875 B.C. - Osaka built barracks and started horsemen to take the place of the lost warriors in France for exploration
850 B.C. - I wanted to go out with a bang so I declared war on every civ(just kidding). I did, however, beat the Osakans and the Tokyans just for kicks.(and productivity, deaths blamed on too much wine drinking;) ) Gonzo killed by Osakans while trying to find a hot tub.

And so ends the reign of Gonzo I. As a result of his reign, more gold and tech was acquired, more people started drinking and became exceedingly joyous, some Frence #$*#^$ died and then took a knee and kissed my @$$, and our world map increased minorly. Oh yeah, and 2 cities were founded.

I hope I did good enough for this time, I haven't been here since the beginning so I don't know the goals and the whole situation. I'd be willing to become a permanent addition if you approved of my rule this time around and wanted someone else, that is.

Hi all - I finished my turn but I can't do the writeup until tomorrow morning sorry! I've attached a screenshot. The main thing that happened is a huge area of fertile grasslands was discovered near us! AN INCREDIBLE DISCOVERY

825 B.C. - The Takeover! Lord Chuck of the mighty Japanese takes over as emperor after a brief but outrageously bloody coup. :slay: Several minor changes are made immediately. First of all, the new leader is a man of ideas as well as action, and the science rate is boosted because we have a substantial treasury - dipping into it for the sake of science is a worthy cause. The Settler production in Edo was changed to temple for several reasons. First of all, the settler would not have been produced because the city was size 1, and secondly, there was no good food producing squares in the radius, so a temple was ordered to expand the workable area.

We strike a deal with the English in our first major diplomatic foray. We trade the the Wheel and contact with the Greeks in exchange for contact with the Russians, writing, and 7 gold. A reasonable trade. The Russians are backward technologically and broke as well. England is our closest rival technologically. I note we are the only ones producing the Pyramids! Hurrah! Edo produces it's temple. We have horses, we could probably make loads of horseman right now and do well... hmmm...

800: Exploring. Warrior produced in Satsuma. Iron Working discovered! Set to map making - ability to trade maps useful for cash.

775: No land bridge North of Toyko - oh well.

750: Horses discovered next to Germans... bad news. We have 3(!) iron deposits :goodjob: Osaka changed to worker to get them.

730: Germany DEMANDS contact with Russians. They are appeased for now, but I feel we haven't seen the last of them. I look around to see what techs the others have, and they are suddenly all even with us! Are they all trading techs together?

710: Edo expands under influence of new temple. Our horseman finds lands to the east.

690: Exploring...

670: Our horseman discovers what could be a mjor grasslands area to the East....

650: Our horseman discovers goody huts on this new peninsula! Osaka changed to Settler - we need to cut off this area so we can claim it for ourselves!

630: Toyko grows, stars settler production. The Ghuzz donate us a warrior :) The Germans seem to have an excellent starting position...

610: Settlers or defense??? I can't decide

590: Horseman moving back to cities for defense. Goody huts sighted right by German borders.

570: Sangians give us 50 gold  When we get map making, be sure not to give out maps until we have a hold on this new land!

550: Production on settlers speeded up.

530: Road completed to one ron, but colony not built yet because we have alternate source soon and we need worker. The Greeks are approaching our border with their city of Thermopylae  Production of Pyramids speeded through a re-allocation of resources. Satsume changed to spearman. Goody hut on new peninsula.

510: Polynesians give us maps of their local region.. gee thanks  The area is outstanding, however... Osaka and Toyko produce settlers - set to horsemen. Both of these are sent to the "New World"

490: Horseman sent to Edo to escort settlers. Silks discovered in New World

470: Iron connected! Swordsman available! Working on road to facilitate supply to New World.

450: Everyone even on tech - boats coming soon!

430: The end of my reign. Settlers are ready to pour into the new area. Cut off enemy expansion into here at all costs! Good Luck! :king:

Im done. It was an interesting round. We are at war with the Germans because I wouldn't give in(don't ask why this happens always during my turns). We are stronger so we shouldn't have problems making them rethink this. The new area has been partly settled and no other civs can just walk in. 1 or 2 settler(s)(cant remember which) is/are almost to good settling grounds. We have advanced some in tech and are losing 1 gold/turn still. Summary soon to come.:o

gonzo_for_civ

Sir! Come quick, for mighty Japan cries your name. The people wan't you, the son of Gonzo to rule.

I will not deny the voice of the people, I have no choice, I must rule. Bring me and a small escort to the palace immediately.

410BC - Edo builds settler and I decide to build one more for a little help with the new world.

390BC - Worker starts road to new land.

370BC - Satsuma set to build settler. Our sages have discovered how to write down the lands on a paper, they call it a map. Now, my trusted science advisor advises me that we can build things called libraries to hold our literature.

350BC - Gonzo goes fishing!

330BC - I wanna fish some more!

310BC - C'mon let me fish!

290BC - OK Fine. But for that, I'm going to punish Satsuma by forcing them to build a settler.

270BC - Germans trade their world knowledge and 8 gold to me for our world knowledge(don't worry, the new lands shall be ours)

250BC - I'm sick of this, I'm going fishing some more.

230BC - Stop!!! I'm about to land the big one!

210BC - Kagoshima and Nara are built semi-close together to seal off the new lands. France gives us their World map and 15 gold for our territory map.

190BC - Osaka built horse, starting to train men with spears for better defence.

170BC - Back to fishing

150BC - Zzzzz.......

130BC - Germany tries to extort territory map and 26 gold. SCREW YOU!!!! War begins. Our conscript warrior successfully killed a vet german warrior and is promoted to regular!

110BC - Beat down Osaka for some horsies.

90BC - Osaka completes horse.

70BC - Our now regular warrior wins again!!!!

50BC - Pyramids completed in Kyoto. Spearmen started!!!:)

30BC - Polytheism started?(my notes are sloppy) Oh wait! whos this? HEY! put that down. What are you? oh my &*^. et tu charlihoke?

Notes: warrior outside of german city should be fortified and joined with at least 4-5 horse to take city and possibly force peace(for a price, of course) This war is not essential to survival so end it when we can strike a good deal. I didn't have time to do much since most was just expansion.

The wins by your conscript warrior were pure military genius, and Your settlement of the new world was spot on! :D

311
Jan 09, 2002, 07:48 PM
Once again the people call to the gods asking for great music and herb:D and they are rewarded with 311

ok right off the bat i noticed cities were building warriors. Why i ask especially around 0 ad....anyways to my turn

10 bc: Moved troops to germany.
osaka begins spearman....really slow production for them and warriors are dumb PLUS most cities we have have no defense

10 ad: Spearman finished in kyoto he is sent to the border towns

30 ad:Razed the new german city munich :goodjob: "hooray"
lost a warrior to a horde of there (not really a horde but 2)

50 ad: killed 2 german warriors

70 ad: Edo finishes a settler begins spearman
kyoto starts horseman after the spearman was done

90 ad: Nagoya builds a warroir :( i forgot to check and change it to something useful so it now is building a temple in my honor

110 ad: Tokyo makes horseman, city is so far from way it begins a library

130 ad: a german archer barely kills our warrior it had one hp left
founded izumo, the placement allowed us to steal a dye from greece

150 ad: osaka makesa spearman, starts library
our horseman was attacked by an archer and won but was sadly eaten by a nasty warrior
the poeple give me a new house to live in wooooooooho
library started in kyoto

170 ad: Nagasaki founded has a cow available and soon silks, starts a temple to get the silks
kagoshima makes a spearmen and starts a temple. the city Nara did the same.

190 ad: we kill yet another german warrior
traded our world map to greece and received code of laws and their world map.
finished research on polytheism and started monarchy

210 ad: moved some troops

230 ad: Temple finished in my honor in the city Satsuma it is also really far from the war so it starts a library.

240-260 ad: im glad to report we did nothing during this time :king:

270 ad: Kill another puny german all their cities are size one just wipe them out.

280 ad: made some music for the people other than that nothing

290 ad: spearman finished in edo and starts a horseman
sadly 311's head exploded from to many decibles from the speakers he never tells anyone about.

p.s. try to build atleast 2 spearman in each city, germany has a worthless army just end it sent 3-4 more at them

ps x2 gonzo will you drop me from amercian game i lack the time to do two at a time thx

Phantom12345
Jan 10, 2002, 11:32 AM
After the shock of 311's dead, people all over the empire panicked, but out of nowhere a peasant named Phantom showed up to rule the country. His mission was to make the Japanese a culturally advanced civilisation and improving the lands so the mighty Japanese will soon profit of extra food and productivity.

300 Phantom finds the Japanese soil to be inferior to his imperial garden so he decides to get workers ASAP. Therefor he changed the library in Tokyo to a worker

310 Worker in Tokyo was created and put to work, in the meanwhile brave Japanese horseman attack the German town Liepzig and succeed in killing 1 spearman.

320 Against all odds, the German defending spearman repels 3 attacks from horseman. All horseman must retreat It is at this time Phantom thinks that continuing the war against Germany is futile because of great distance between the 2 empires and the lack of a lot of offensive. He decides to contact the Germans and is able to make a peace treaty while also getting mathematics.

330 Library finished in Kyoto and starts producing workers ( City size is 7, so we can constantly crank workers out while not losing pop )

340 France asks to trade their world map for our world map + polytheism. Phantom laughs at Jean d'Arc and goes to dinner.

350 Russia demands Literature from us. Again Phantom just roll over from laughing. Besides he hates her ugly face.

360 Assigning workers so they will actually do something.

370 Worker created in Kyoto and immediately put it to work. In the meanwhile troops nearby German borders are completely healed again. ( including 1 elite )

380 Library created in Osaka and Phantom decides he needs to expand his royal library. Therefor the construction of the Great Library commences.

390 Civil disorder in Nagoya, worker created in Kyoto Phantom reassigning a civilian in Nagoya to make some funny :crazyeyes

400 Nothing happened but noticed that we're losing cash.... Since Monarchy is going to be researched in 2 turns, he will make sure next thing to research is Banking.

410 Trades polytheism against construction with the Germans. Now we can build might Colosseums and great aquaducts to increase our cities.

420 Monarchy is researched. When Phantom hears this news, he's so overjoyed that he got a heartattack.......

Hmm, I'm kinda out of time, so that's why I didn't do the full 20 turns. Since I don't want to have this game slow down by me, I'll just stop at 13 turns. Next I'm sure I will be able to finish the full 20ty.

Btw guys.... what did we do with all the other civs. They're not exactly friendly with us. Most of them are either furious or annoyed with us.

Phantom12345
Jan 10, 2002, 12:05 PM
Another thing. We have 4 units near the Germans border, fully healed. So if the next leader would like to attack them, do so. We might get a leader from the elite. I hope I didn't too much wrong. Here's the game

Lazyman, this game is post-patch. If you want to play it is fine by me, we are going to try to get moving again so after a few e-mails are made, we can hopefully find out who is still gonna play and throw you in somewhere.

BTW, if you don't have the patch, I would strongly suggest downloading it!!!!!!!!

Looked at the game save and decided not to do it.
Had troubles keeping track of each turn for one thing but main prob was too few civs and too far away for me (but considering the low amount of military there that's a good thing), might start a succession game of my own though.

PS-Build some roads. Libraries are no good w/o roads to make money.

LayZMan
Jan 17, 2002, 06:11 PM
I got bored and decided to do it anyhow.

420 AD
--The Emperor Layzman ascends to power in hope of leading Japan to a great dynasty. Unfortunetly there was a great deal of internal work that was necessary first. This was first noticed after one of his carts broke a wheel on the rough terrain due to lack of roads. Workers were being sought.
--Yokohama founded (Emperor yawns and rolls over)

430 AD
