View Full Version : Game going out of sync in 2 player Internet...
Bradley326 Oct 29, 2005, 08:30 PM My friend and I are trying to play a two player game of Civ 4, but every 10 minutes or so we each get a pop-up message saying, "Soandso has disconnected from the game" and it gives us options to:
Save and Continue (this results in our game disconnecting and we continue in single-player mode)
Save and Continue Later (this is what we've been doing. We save, exit, and then reload the game and play for 10 more minutes before it goes out of sync again)
Wait (this just does nothing, we sit there forever waiting).
Any idea why this is happening? It happens around every 10 minutes for seemingly no reason. We've closed all unnecessary programs in the background, and turned off all firewalls and antivirus programs. We play TONS of multiplayer games, and this is the only game in which we're having this problem.
We've tried both direct IP connection as well as using Gamespy, and we get the same result.
If anyone has an idea as to how we might fix this, please enlighten us.

Have the same problem.
Pandolfo Oct 28, 2007, 06:17 PM A problem where an internet connection gets reset after a specific amount of time most likely is not due to any communication problems with the game itself.
The first thing I would check are any anti-virus programs that are scanning in the background, followed by spy ware, or any utility programs. You should TURN OFF ANY firewall you have running except for the windows one. I don't know how many times I hear people saying that Zone Alarm is a great program and then wonder why they can't do stuff.
Anyway, after all that if you're still having problems, you should check your router and make sure that it's not re-connecting to the Net every ten minutes or so.
You'll have to do all of these checks for each computer.
I'd just suggest disconnecting the router, turning off the spy ware, anti-virus and other utilites and trying to play the game like that. If it works you can then add the router and try again.. ect.
Good luck

supaklutz Nov 08, 2007, 01:25 PM I had a similar problem... We didn't actually disconnect from eachother, but we did receive a nice bright flashing "out of sync" error that wouldn't go away.
Solution: Clear out your cache for the game. This can be done either by finding the cache directory (should be stored under your Windows profile somewhere I believe... I think there is a shortcut to it from the CivIV install directory though) OR, I believe you can simply hold SHIFT while the game is loading. Apologies if this isn't the same error as you are having, or if I am mucking up the details of the solution.
illram Nov 26, 2007, 12:36 AM All of you should check to see if one of you is using a different version of the game, such as bhruics unofficial patch, or an auto-loading mod such as BUG, or anything that might utilize a different game file. Me and my brother were getting OOS errors until I figured out that I was using bhruics UOP, and when I switched back to the original cvgamecore.dll everything was fine.

its with game cache
if you do not have the folder just hold shift while loading game
it works
stenackj Jan 02, 2008, 01:52 PM My brother and I receive this message once in a while and when it happens one of us (usually myself) selects the continue to wait option while the other exits to the main menu. After getting back to the main menu he just clicks on a multiplayer game and selects join game and will find the game still going and he just highlights it and it reconnects. After it reconnects the message on the screen of the person waiting will go away and he joins back in exactly where he left off.
What is kind of funny about this method is that when he reconnects it asks him what civ he wants to be, minus the one that I'm currently playing as. We have never done it, but in theory, he could easily pick any other civ to play as mid-game from that point on just as if we were loading a saved multiplayer game.
** Edit: nevermind, you can probably just ignore what I typed above (or try it and let me know if it still works!) because we play using a local LAN and not over the net so I don't know if that will work. It probably should though.
