Welcome to my first Civ story! In this thread I will tell the tale of the great Egyptian Empire, ruled by the ever beautiful Queen Hatshepsut. I tend to make this a graphical tale and will take a long time to complete. I'll try to update this tale as frequent as possible. Comments are welcome, advice even more so! Queen Hatshepsut will be delighted to hear your welcome advice and comments... hell, even criticism about her reign (just don't be afraid of the lions and crocodiles she might throw at you).

Please come back soon as I'm starting Hatshepsut's tale...

The year is 4000 BC, a small nomadic tribe known as the Egyptians decide it's time to settle down. They recently discovered the secrets of The Wheel and Agriculture which allows their workers to build farms and roads and to build chariots if they can find horses in the area.
There is stone and incense in the nearby vicinity which will help the Egyptian people to construct World Wonders and bring happiness. The river Nile is streaming through the desert and the egyptian scout spots a small tribal village to the north...

The Egyptian people move their scout unit towards the tribal village and build their first settlement, Thebes, on a nice spot near a bend in the river Nile.
After zooming in to have a closer look at the settlement, we discover there's another luxury, spices, just south accross the river. As the border expands the egyptian people also discover some cows in the west which will help the city grow in the near future. Meanwhile Hatshepsut orders her scientists to work on a technology called mining, which is a prerequisite towards Masonry. Hatshepsut has a particul interest in Masonry as this will allow her to build one of the Great Wonders of the world.... the Pyramids! As the settlement is in need of protection Hatshepsut asks her Royal Guards to train warriors to protect the settlement from danger.
In 3960 AD the egyptian scout enters the tribal village and is gifted 69 gold from the local villagers as an aid to the Egyptian people.

The year is 3760 BC, the egyptian warrior scout has moved north along the river Nile and discovered a coastline, following the coastline eastwards the warrior visits another tribal village. A free scout unit is willing to join the Egyptian Empire in its search for eternal glory. The Warrior will continue exploring the coastline, while the Scout is send landinwards.

3720 BC: Egyptian Scientists discover the secrets of Mining, meanwhile Hatshepsut's Spiritual advisor was able to convince his queen the importance and need of religion for the Egyptian people and the scientists of Egypt will start working on Mysticism, a secret that will eventually lead to the discovery of Polytheism and Monotheism.

3680 BC: The scout discovers another village at the beginning of what looks like a jungle... The village provides the Egyptians with a map of the area and indeed a large jungle is discovered with many valuable resources...such as bananas, gems and rice.

3640 BC: Our scout meets another civilization and Hatshepsut is greeted by their leader, Huayna Capac of the Incan Empire. Will Hayna be a future ally? Or our worst enemy.... for now we want peace between our people.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image005.jpg

3600 BC: Hinduism is discovered in a far distant land, meanwhile our Scout finds another tribal village and upon visiting is gifted the secret of Mysticism! Research is changed to Polytheism, hopefully the Egyptian people will be the first to discover this tech as this will make Thebes a Holy City...

3520 BC: Thebes finished the training of a Warrior unit which is fortified in the city for defense. The city has grown to a size 2 city now and changed production to barracks, as soon as the city hits size 3 we'll change the production to a worker to improve the tiles around the city.

Will Hatshepsut succeed in being the first to discover Polytheism? How will the relationship between the Egyptian and Incan people develop? All of these questions cannot be answered...the future will tell.

To be continued...

In the year 3480 BC another leader, Bismarck of the German Empire, comes to greet us. Bismarck lands neighbours ours on the western border. We decide to make peace with Bismarck and leave him to his own business for now. We have other matters to deal with ourselves.

In 3440 BC our scout discovers another tribal village and is given the secret of Fishing. In 3360 BC we get the message that Buddhism is founded in a far and distant land... Hatshepsut's hope is now set to be the first to discover Monotheism. For now we need 5 more turns to discover Polytheism.

In 3320 BC our scout is attacked by a horde of wild Panthers! The scout barely survives and need 8 turns to heal.

3280 BC : Yet another World Leader cross our path and we're welcomed by Cyrus, leader of the self proclaimed great Persian Empire! We make peace with Cyrus and send him off his way.

In 3160 BC our scientists discover the secrets of Polytheism, but before we can advance to Monotheism, we need to discover Masonry. Masonry is needed to build the Pyramids, so no big loss there.

A Worker is created in Thebes in the year 2960 BC, he starts building some farms on the Flood Plains around Thebes. City production is changed to another Warrior.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image009.jpg

2920 BC: Our Warrior discovers a dangerous group of Lions, looking for a nice Egyptian snack, hiding in the forests to the southwest. The Warrior unit, not affraid to fight, moves one tile south where he gets a defense bonus of 50% for being protected by the forest.

The next turn, in the year 2880 BC, the Lions attack, but our brave Warriors defeat the Lions. They take some damage and will take 4 turns to heal. The unit is promoted to Combat I level.

A new Warrior unit is trained in Thebes in 2760 BC, production is once again changed to Barracks untill the city has grown to size 4.

Meanwhile our Scout has been healed but has spotted Panthers once again hiding in the jungle! This time our scout is smart enough to run and flees north, away from the Panthers!

In 2520 BC Thebes has grown to a size 4 city, production is changed from Barracks to our first Settler unit. It's about time we expand our Civilization and claim some more fertile grounds for the Egyptian people to prosper!

Animal Husbandry is the next technology our scientists are working on.

In the year 2040 BC Thebes finished building a settler unit, one of our Warriors defending Thebes is grouped with the settler and send off to find a new City near the East Coast, marked by the X in the image above. It seems like an ideal location as it will have access to horses, clams, fishes and cows! It's a long trip though...hopefully the settler will make it before someone else does!

In 1960 BC the Egyptian Scientists discover the secrets of hunting and change their research towards Bronze Working.

Barracks are finished in Thebes in 1840 BC, now we can start working on the Pyramids! Our worker has meanwhile finished building some farms and roads on the floodplains and will now connect our stones asap. Once the worker has build a quarry on the stones resource and connected it to Thebes with Roads, the Pyramids will be build twice as fast!

1640 BC, a Royal Messenger brings bad news to Hatshepsut from the settler send east! The Incan Empire has beaten the Egyptians at the Horses sweetspot. Huayna Capac must have liked the spot just as much as Hatshepsut! Rumours are Hatshepsut was so mad she threw the poor messenger before the crocodiles whom ripped the poor fellow apart.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image015.jpg

Luckily for Hatshepsut and the egyptian people, there's another sweetspot just north... On that site the city should get access to Clams, Fishes and cows... and maybe if Culture grows large enough we can claim the horses as well!

Bronze Working is discovered in 1560 BC, we change research towards Archery.

1400 AD, Memphis was founded a few turns earlier on the spot indicated. The borders have grown! For a reason I don't know yet, our cities are producing Culture without a culture building being build in the city or a religion! Must have got something to do with the special treats of Hatshepsut, either the spiritual or the creative treat! Nice going...it now seems we have access to the horses as well, but unfortunately the borders of the Incan city expand soon after and reclaim the horses.

In 1360 BC we discover Archery and change to Writing.

Around 1200 BC our workers finally finished the quarry and connected the stones to Thebes! The Pyramids suddenly take only 24 turns to complete instead of the 52 turns before we had connected the stones!

1000 BC, Pastry build on the cows west of Thebes, production has been boosted once again and the Pyramids have only 13 turns left before completion! Hatshepsut is already celebrating this as victory! The Greatness of the Egyptian people will be known to the World! After the "incident" with the crocodiles, her advisors wisely decide not to tell her it might be too early to start celebrating....

As some of her people wanted to know what the world looked like outside the city, Hatshepsut had her cartographers draw out a map of the world as of 1000 BC. "All this land are belong to us" she thought and smiled... :king:

Will Hatshepsut be able to build her Pyramids or will more advisors face the crocodiles? Will her religion spread throughout the continent? Stay tuned as more of this tale will be posted later today...

975 BC: We find another source of Horses southwest off Thebes at the shoreline. The German borders are closing in to that source though. But we don't want to spread out our Empire too much, so first we need to fill in the gaps between Thebes and Memphis.

In 925 BC, writing has been discovered and we open Borders with all the other civilizations we have met.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image019.jpg

In 875 BC our Scout discovers a Barbarian city just south of the Horses we discovered earlier. The scout is attacked by Barbarians and killed...

Barracks are finished in Memphis in the year 775 BC and we start working on an Archer for defense.

725 BC, a great year for the Egyptian people as they build the Pyramids in Thebes! Hatshepsut is very pleased indeed and months of celebration and festivities is started to honour this great achievement! The Egyptian people have put their mark on Civilization!

Let's have a closer look at the city:

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image021.jpg

The city has grown to size 8 and people are unhappy...this will soon change though! With the completion of the Pyramids Hatshepsut will change her government style to Representation and Religion to Organised Religion. This will bring more happiness to the people of Egypt.

In 650 BC Iron Working is discovered and research is changed towards Pottery.

In 575 BC Barbarian's try to attack Thebes, fortunately we have just finished building an Archer in Thebes and will kill the attacking Barbarians before they can do any damage.

Pottery is researched in 550 BC and we change to Priesthood so we can build temples in our Cities.

A new settler is finished in 525 BC and we plot a route to a site on the north coast between Thebes and Memphis. There's some valuable resources there that will certainly help the Egyptian people.

Priesthood is discovered in 450 BC and we change to Horseback Riding. Our settler meanwhile reached the building site for our new city and Heliopolis is founded on the spot!

Let's have a closer look at our new city:

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image024.jpg

See that Incan flag in the lower right-hand side corner? That's an Incan Settler! They were going to build a city and split Thebes from Memphis! That would have been a total disaster and most certainly have meant war between our two people! Luckily Hatshepsut beat them to it this time... and war was not needed...for now... The Settler moved back south the following years.

We meet Kublai Khan of the Mongol Empire in 125 BC! One more Tribe on this continent apparently... We make peace and Open Borders then send him off.

Horseback Riding has been founded a little bit earlier and researched was changed to Sailing.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image025.jpg

Meanwhile another settler unit was finished and founded the city of Elephantine in 100 BC. The location of this city is not very nice, but Hatshepsut build it for one reason and one reason only.... to grab the Iron Source away from the Incan's. Thebes already has an Iron Source, but can't hurt to have two eh? For now the culture in Elephantine is too weak.. but soon it would start to grow!

In 50 BC Sailing is Discovered and we change to Mathematics!

Also, whats the situation re: finances. Has the maintenance issue started to kick in? Are you producing enough money?

it's a horrible starting position, too much desert :( Thebes is alright there are some flood plains, so enough food there. Yeah I'm starting to build missionares now to spread my religion, i need some friends.
Finances are just about ok, I'm running science at 90/100%, with only 4 cities it's quite manageable... but my 5th city is on the way. I'll continue the story probably over the weekend, don't have much time the coming days.

A new chapter has started in this story... In the following posts I will continue the story of Hatshepsut of the Egyptian Empire from 1 AD till 1000 AD.

The new era started quietly, in 75 AD Bismarck sends one of his representatives on a trade deal with Hatshepsut. Bismarck offers us Crabs in return for Cows, seems like a fair deal of whom both people will benefit, so Hatshepsut gladly accepts the deal. Meanwhile our religion started spreading accros the Continent as well... both the Germans and Incans adapt Judaism as their state religion and might become strong partners in the future. However...they're both at the bottom of the score list...

In 150 AD an Incan trader comes to visit Hatshepsut, Huayna Capac offers Fish for Iron... this is a nogo! Egypt has two fish resources in its borders that will soon be connected and Iron is an important strategic resource.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image028.jpg

Meanwhile, still in 150 AD, Alexandria is found at the Nile Delta north of Thebes! Two Iron sources are also connected in this same year (the incan's sure were quick to discover this...). Thebes starts building some Axemen, there's the barbarian city of Scythian just south of Thebes that Hatshepsut wants to join in her empire. She already send 5 Archers to Siege the city, but a strong Melee unit is needed to capture the city as it's heavily defended by 4 Archers.

Mathematics is discovered by our Scientists in 200 AD and research is changed to Calendar, which the Egyptian people will need to build Plantages and connect some luxary's to bring happiness to the people of Egypt.

Dimy

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image029.jpg

375 AD, the attack on Scythian starts, two Archers have already been taken care off in the picture above... and the remaining two Archer's won't have a chance against Egypts mighty army... the city falls and comes into Egyptian control. Hatshepsut is delighted when she hears the news from her messengers! However, these new cities do put pressure on the Egyptian treasure as upkeep is costing a fortune... yet the conquer of Scythian was an important one as it has direct access to a lot of resources as you can see in the picture!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image030.jpg

The people of Scythian are resisting! But not for long...

Memphis starts building worker boats to connect the sea resources the Egyptian sea's has to offer. A worker boat is finished in 474 AD and builds fishing boats on a Clams resource. The following years Memphis will produce three more worker boats to connect one more Clams and 2 Fish resources.

Imhotep, a Great Engineer is born in 500 AD as a direct result of building the Pyramids so many centuries ago! For now Hatshepsut decides to safekeep Imhoptep and use him to build another Great Wonder of the World in the near future...

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image033.jpg

In 640 AD the city of Pi-Ramesses is founded near the German borders and some pig resource northwest of Alexandria.

In 660 AD Thebes starts building the Hanging Gardens, as we have access to stone we have a double production speed for this wonder and can build it in only 9 turns. Hatshepsut decides not to use Imhotep for this.

Kublai Khan comes to visit Hatshepsut in 700 AD for some tea and business, he offers Hatshepsut the secret of Monarchy for Alphabet. As this is a fair trade, Hatshepsut agrees with the deal.

Hatshepsut herself sends a messenger to Huayna Capac of the Incan Empire and signs yet another lucrative trade. We trade Alphabet and Priesthood, both fairly cheap technologies, for Engineering!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image034.jpg

Another great achievement by the Egyptian people... The Hanging Gardens are build in Thebes in the year 820 AD! Meanwhile Thebes also finished construction of an Aqueduct... and apparently the Pyramids have been magically moved to another location!!! That's right... another Era! Hatshepsut has lead her people into the Medieval Age with the discovery of Theology in 840 AD! We change research to Code of Laws! Why? Because city upkeep is getting out of control...we need courthouses to reduce the upkeep!

Code of Laws is discovered in 960 AD and we change our research to Devine Right. We need some religious wonders in Thebes to produce a Great Prophet. A Great Prophet could be used to build Salomon's Temple which will be a nice boost to Egyptian Economy as every city that adopted Judaism will produce +1 gold in our treasure!

980 AD is a busy year for Hatshepsut, we trade Monotheism for Meditation and 20 Gold with Huayna Capac, we meet with Ghandi, leader of the Indian Empire, and trade Fish for Deer. We also meet Alexander of the Greek, but unfortunately have no opportunity of trade with Alex.
We have a chat with Huayna Capac of the Incans and trade Theolohy for Currency and 10 gold.
Imhotep, still unused, is finally added to the city of Thebes as a free Great Engineer and gives us an addition 3 hammers and 6 beakers in the city of Thebes. Further more production in the city of Thebes is changed to yet another Great Wonder... Chichen Itza!

Starting to feel the maintenance squeeze, eh? How do you intend to get out of it. In the other game logs I've read finance has been a particular focus, and when healthy in that respect the player seems to have picked on one civ and wiped them out until all their cities are conquered. They build about 6 - 9 cities in their own civ, and then conquered everything else.

I think its amazing that you can have a pop of 13 in your capital at this stage. You must be trading a great deal to get all that health?

Well, my wife has said she'll get my copy of Civ4 in the morning on her way home from work. What a nice lady!!!!!!!! And then I get to play when I'm home from work in the afternoon. (I'm too much of a coward to throw a sickie).

Hatshepsut made up a financial plan... the first step has already started with the discovery of Code of Laws... she's building Courthouses in her cities now that will significantly reduce city upkeep. The 2nd stage has just started now with building the Chichen Itza wonder, which will give Great Prophet points... I'm currently researching to a tech that allows me to build a 2nd Great Wonder that gives Great Prophet points. With the GP Hatshepsut can build Salomon's Temple in the Holy City of Thebes which will generate +1 gold for each city in the world that has Judaism. Further more, she'll be building Harbors in her coastal cities for extra income on trade routes. And of course in the future with the proper techs we'll be building markets, grocers and banks.

As for the health... I have a lot of resources within my own borders that give extra health, I'm only trading for 2 of them or so, not quite sure about this number, I'll have to check that in-game.

I have one conquest planned... and that's the horses city of the Incan's at the east coast... the city that was supposed to be mine in the first place! Hatshepsut still holds a grudge against Huayna Capac for this... a war is soon to come and inevitable.

Hi, I was wondering, whats the point of trading cows for crabs? Don't u lose the cows for the crabs? IN fact, whats the point of trading resources if u don't have an extra source of that resource?

Sounds like you're a amn with a plan....or should I say Empress?

I'm a man alright... but Hatshepsut came up with the plan ;) I'm just her humble servant making the moves she plans :).

In the following posts another 500 years of Egyptians History will be told. Although the world was mostly a peaceful place during this period in history, a lot of scientific development, architectual achievements and discovery has taken place. It was only in the last 100 years, between 1400 AD and 1500 AD that a war has started... Curious about the details? I will add articles with new pictures and stories in the coming hour...

The year is 1010 AD... a Great Scientist, Hypatia, is born in Memphis! This is good news for Hatshepsut as she can now build an Academy to boost Scientific Research in the city of Thebes. Hypatia is send to Thebes!

In 1020 AD we are greated by a noble man with the name Julias Caesar. He's leader of the Roman people. He and his people are living in lands yet to be discovered by Hatshepsut! We check to see if we can trade with these Romans... but for now there is not, we agree to Open Borders for the Roman people as we want to impress them with our achievements and great city of Thebes!
We talk with Cyrus of the Persians instead and trade Fish for +2 Gold/turn and Open Borders again with him.

Hypatia arrives in Thebes in 1030 AD and builds the Academy!

The secret of Devine Right is discovered in 1090 AD and a new religion with the name Islam is spreading amongst our people... Memphis becomes the holy city of this newly founded religion!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image041.jpg

This year will be remembered as another great year for the Egyptian people... as Chichen Itza is completed in Thebes! A great achievement by the Egyptian builders and architects! 1090 AD sure was an exciting year for Hatshepsut!

It's time for some trading with the other World Leaders... Hatshepsut makes a deal with Cyrus of the Persians and trades Devine Right for Feudalism and 30 Gold. With Bismarck of the Germans she trades Meditation for 70 Gold.
Huayna Capac of the Incans offers us Metal Casting and 20 Gold in return for Devine Right and Caesar gives Hatshepsut 20 Gold for Meditation. Last but not least... Alexander is willing to give Hatshepsut 30 Gold in return for Currency.

The construction of another wonder, the Spiral Minaret, is started in 1100 AD!

In 1140 AD our scientists discover the secret of Civil Service and start working on Literature. Hatshepsut changes her government style and adapts two new Civics. Bureacracy and Serfdom are adapted by the Egyptians.

In 1150 AD Literature is discovered and the scientists will now focus on the discovery of Music which is completed in 1180 AD... Next will be Compass.

The Incans ask our help in 1190 AD and would like us to give them the secret of Literature. As we see no harm in doing so, we help them out and give them the technology for free. Archimedes, a Great Engineer, is born in Thebes in the same year, for now Hatshepsut decides not to use him. Archimedes might be useful to help building a future Wonder of the World or help start a Golden Age for the Egyptian people.

Compass is discovered in 1200 AD and we now focus our research to the secret of Paper... This might be helpful as it will allow us to trade maps with other civilizations!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image043.jpg

The Spiral Minaret is build in 1210 AD! Another great achievement!

Paper is discovered in 1230 AD and now we start researching Education.

Gandhi wants to trade with us in 1240 AD, we exchange World Maps and trade him Paper and Code of Laws for Machinery and 20 Gold.

Dimy
Nov 05, 2005, 05:42 AM
In 1260 AD we do some more trading, Caesar gives us 20 Gold for the World Map. With Persia we exchange World Maps and trade Literature for 20 Gold.
We also exchange World Maps with Bismarck and trade Paper for Optics with the Incans.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image042.jpg

The Renaissance Age starts in 1300 AD with the Discovery of Education. We start researching Printing Press next. In the same year Kublai Khan demands our World Map but offers nothing in return... we tell him to go away and come with a better offer!

Some good trade deals are made in 1320 AD with the Romans and Indians. Gandhi gives us Fur in exchange for Incense and Caesar will give us Silk for Incense.

Cyrus of the Persians demands tribute from Hatshepsut in 1330 AD, 130 Gold! Is Cyrus insane? Hatshepsut sends only the head of Cyrus' messenger back in a bag... That should be a clear message! Hatshepsut doesn't tolerate threads like that. Diplomatic relationship with Cyrus has not been improved by this...

Printing Press is discovered in 1350 AD and next on the research list is Gunpowder! Hatshepsut obviously doesn't trust that fool of a Cyrus. Gunpowder will give Hatshepsut a new strong defending unit for her cities.

In 1380 AD Hatshepsut trades Education for Engineering and 330 Gold tribute from Gandhi! We also trade Dye with Gandhi who's giving us a lucrative +7 Gold/turn in return for this.

Francis Bacon is born in Memphis in the year 1400 AD! He immediately builds another Academy, this time in the city of Memphis. Gunpowder is discovered in that same year and research is now changed to Drama so we can build Theatres in the cities for more hapiness.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image045.jpg

Over the last couple of years, Hatshepsut has secretly built an army consisting of 4 Macemen, 1 Longbowman, 1 Crossbowman and 4 Catapults. The Incan city of Tiwanaka must fall! For all these years Hatshepsut wanted those nice horses... but was denied them so many years ago when the Incans build their city just before Hatshepsut could claim the land! Tiwanaka has city walls and a defense bonus of 60%... but with the help of strong catapults she should be able to overtake the city! Even though the Incan's are friendly with us, Huayna Capac is also weak... and Hatshepsut feels the Incan people are better off if they join the Egyptian Empire! War is declared and a Maceman attacks the Incan Archer defending the Horse tile.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image046.jpg

Obviously the Archer has no chance against the much stronger Maceman and dies quickly in battle. Hatshepsut moves her army to the northwest of the Incan City and the siege will start....

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image047.jpg

The city burns as the catapults launch their bombardsment upon the city! The defenses are weakened, but not enough! Another bombardment will be needed before Hatshepsut will order her Axemen and archers inside the city!

The following turn only 3 catapults are needed to destroy the Incan city defenses... the remaining 4th catapult attacks the city and causes collateral damage to all 6 units defending the city. Unfortunately the Catapult is destroyed in the process, but it was a well worth sacrifice!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image048.jpg

In 1330 AD, Hatshepsut's Macemen, Crossbowman and Longbowman attack the Incan city of Tiwanaka! Five defending units are destroyed! But there's one last defending unit remaining...

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image049.jpg

The last defender of Tiwanaka is killed in 1440 AD... the Egyptian forces capture Tiwanaka! The Incan citizens of Tiwanaka resist... but Hatshepsut is sure they'll realise it's only for the better soon enough.

In the following years Hatshepsut will heal her army and build some reinforcements. In 1460 AD Cyrus of the Persian Empire also declares war on the Incans! Hatshepsut's eyes are now focused on the Incan city of Machu Picchu... Another city she would like to add to her own Empire!
The Indian leader Ghandi asks us for Gunpowder in the same year, but as he offers nothing in return we deny him this request.

Nationalism is discovered in 1470 AD and we are now researching Military Tradition, with horses and gunpowder we should be able to build Cavalry once this technology has been discovered!

Meanwhile, in the early 1400's, Memphis had build a Caraval to travel the seas and explore new lands... in 1490 AD we discover a new continent, inhabited by people who call themselves Russians... Their leader is named Peter and we greet him.

Around 1500 AD our army is healed and ready for the attack on Machu Picchu, reinforcements were send from Thebes, a new Catapult, Swordman and Maceman joins the group. The Longbowman and Crossbowman were left to defend Tiwanaka.

In the following posts you can read about how Hatshepsut and the Egyptian people continue their tale between 1500 AD and 1750 AD. The war with the Incan's is still ongoing and the city of Machu Picchu is about to be conquered... the armies of Egypt are waiting outside the city gates! Let's have a closer look at the battlefield...

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image053.jpg

In the northwest we have 1 Maceman a Swordsman and a Catapult, we upgrade the Swordsman to a Maceman in this very same turn. In the northeast of the city we have 4 more Maceman, old veterans from the battle of Tiwanaka, and 3 Catapults who also fought at Tiwanaka. In 1505 AD the first wave of bombardments start to bring down the city defenses to the minimum.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image054.jpg

During the first wave of catapult bombardment, the city defenses are brought back to 22%. Only 3 catapults could launch their fireballs at the city, as the catapult unit in the nortwest wasn't ready for the attack. In 1510 AD, all 4 catapults launch their fireballs and the defenses are now brought down. Yet, as the city is heavily defended, we decide not to send our Macemen in yet...
In this year we also meet Qin Shi Huang of the Chinese and trade Dye for +4 Gold/turn and trade Alphabet for 30 Gold.

In 1515 AD our catapults one by one attack the city of Machu Picchu, all causing collateral damage to the defending Longbowmen. Three out of four catapults are destroyed in the attack, but again was well worth the sacrifice. Our 6 Macemen have no difficulties to take out the weakened defenders and the city is captured in this very same turn! Machu Picchu is the holy city of Taoism.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image055.jpg

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image056.jpg

Besides the capture of Machu Picchu, Hatshepsut also awakens Archimedes, the Great Engineer born earlier... Archimedes will build the Taj Mahal in Thebes!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image057.jpg

We make peace with the Incans in return for 40 Gold. They have only 1 city remaining, Cuzco.

Dimy
Nov 05, 2005, 10:46 AM
In 1520 AD the secret of Military Tradition is discovered and research is now set to Astronomy. The Taj Mahal is completed in Thebes and our first Golden Age starts!

Another highlight for the Egyptian people is happening in 1530 AD. The Caravel from Memphis was the first ship ever to circumnavigate the world! The world is round!!! Our naval units have a +1 movement bonus due to this remarkable event!

In 1540 AD we trade Cows for Silver with the Chinese people and the National Epic is constructed in Thebes.

Astronomy is discovered in 1545 AD and we're now researching Guilds.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image058.jpg

Another Great Engineer is born in Thebes in 1550 AD, his name is Leonardi da Vinci. Leonardo joins the city of Thebes as a super specialist.

In 1555 AD we discover Guilds, then change to Banking which is discovered in 1565 AD. We then start researching Economics.

Cyrus asks us to join the war against the Incans and we agree. This war will bring us closer together... strange how certain events play out and enemies become friends. Although Hatshepsut is not planning any fighting, it's good for the relationship between the Egyptian and Persian empires. We trade Clams for +8 Gold with Cyrus during the negotiations!

We're the first civilization to discover the secret of Economics in 1580 AD, due to this fact a Great Merchant is being born in Thebes. His name is Zhang Qian. We send Zhang on a trading mission to Delhi, the capital city of the Indians in the far south of our continent. We change our research to Philosophy and adopt the Free Market Civic in our goverment.

Dimy
Nov 05, 2005, 11:10 AM
Philosophy is then discovered in 1590 AD and we're now researching Liberalism.

Bismarck asks for help in 1600 AD and wants us to give him Devine Right. As Hatshepsut sees no harm in this, she grants Bismarks request. Liberalism is discovered the same year and we change to Scientific Method.
We trade paper to Caesar for 50 Gold and Polytheism to Peter for 80 Gold.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image059.jpg

Zhang Qian arrives in Delhi in 1605 AD and conducts a trading mission, we receive 1900 Gold in our treasure!!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image060.jpg

In 1620 AD we discover Scientific Method, which is the start of a new age... The industrial age! Oil is discovered near Alexandria, but it's of no use to it as we lack the technology to make proper use of this substance at the moment... Hatshepsut is researching Replaceable Parts next.

In 1625 AD we're remembered of the war with the Incans, as the Incans destroy fishing boats and a pastry near Tiwanaku! As we're not interested to fight them yet, Hatsepsut makes a peace deal with Huayna Capac.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image061.jpg

Angkor Wat is build in the city of Thebes in the year 1630 AD and Louis Pasteur is born that same year in the city of Scythian. Louis is a Great Scientist.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image062.jpg

Louis builds our 3rd Academy in Heliopolis in 1635 AD! These Academies are a huge boost to our Scientific research.

Dimy
Nov 05, 2005, 11:30 AM
In 1640 AD Replaceable Parts is discovered and we're now researching Chemistry. We trade Dye for +7 Gold per turn with Peter of the Russians in 1650 AD.

Chemistry is discovered in 1660 AD and now research Steam Power. In 1665 AD yet another Great Engineer in born in Thebes... Hatshepsut was really hoping on a Great Prophet... the name of the Great Engineer is Blaise Pascal. For now we have no use of him so leave him as is.

Steam Power is discovered in 1675 AD and we discover Coal near Elephantine. We send our workers to connect the Coal to our cities and start researching Constitution which is completed in 1695 AD. Next is Corporation.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image063.jpg

According Machiavelli's latest work the Egyptian people are now the Greatest Civilization of the World! The year is 1705 AD, the same year we discover the secret of Corporation and start on Physics.

We make an Open Borders deal with China in 1725 AD and discover Physics in the same year. Unfortunately Uranium is not found near one of our existing cities... but our Caravel has explored an uninhabited Island with a source or Copper, Uranium and Oil in the sea. Preparations are met to colonize this Island in the near future.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image064.jpg

The Persians colonized the Island just north of it...

Rifling is discovered in 1745 AD and we now research Assembly Line so we can build factories in our cities to boost the production. In the same year we also make a defensive pact with the Persians! Seems like Cyrus forgot all about the decapitated messenger Hatshepsut has send him back all these years ago when he demanded tribute from us! Cyrus is not a follower of our religion though... we should start building some missionaries to change this!

In 1750 AD Hatshepsut is preparing the final attack on Huayna Capac, our army now consists of 5 Catapults and 6 Cavalries. Cuzco, capital of the Incans, will soon be under Egyptian control...

Let's have a look at the world in 1750 AD:

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image065.jpg

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image066.jpg

Thebes has meanwhile grown to size 21! Thebes is by far the largest city in the world! Let's have a closer look...

The new lands will bring important resources to the Egyptian people, a substance called Uranium has been found there. Hatshepsut herself came to Memphis to bless the Galleon and her crew for a safe and succesful journey. On board are settlers, workers and riflemen for protection.

Declaring war however, ends our defensive pact with Cyrus, Cyrus is not interested in joining the war, but that's alright... we don't need Persian help.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image069.jpg

Finally...a Great Prophet is born in 1775 AD and we can build the Temple of Solomon.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image070.jpg

Our troops meanwhile are moving towards Cuzco. Here our infantry is taking care of some Incan Catapult.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image071.jpg

The Egyptian military strategy is quite straightforward...

Caesar demands 290 Gold tribute from us in 1780 AD, but like the Persians before, we send only the head of the Roman messenger back to Caesar! Hatshepsut will not bow for empty threats of that heathen swine. If he wants gold, he better come and get it...but not without a fight!

The siege of Cuzco starts in 1785 AD, our catapults are bombing the city. An Incan Galleon is meanwhile destroying our fishing boats! Cuzco is defended by a Musketman, 4 Longbowman a Pikeman and a Quechua.

The siege continues in 1790 AD, 2 catapults bring down the defense bonus of the city while the three remaining Egyptian catapults attack the city to do some collateral damage. Two catapults are destroyed in the process, but their sacrifice will be honored.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image073.jpg

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image074.jpg

Now their defenses has been weakened, it's time to move in our troops... The Egyptian Infantry and Cavalry devastate the defending Incan army. They have no chance against Hatshepsut's forces...

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image075.jpg

It isn't until 1795 AD that the city of Cuzco, and with it the entire Incan Civilization, falls... Huayna Capac orders his last remaining men to go out in a blaze of glory. Dressed up in their traditional military outfit, the Quechue, Huayna himself is leading them to a certain, but honorable death... running right into the storm of bullets from the Egyptian Infantry. This dramatic event ends the life of Huayna Capac, the Incan Civilization is no more. Hatsepsut honours Huayna by giving him a proper burial ceremony, allowing the former Incan citizens to honour their previous leader. "The king is dead! Long live the King!" or.... in this case, the queen!

In 1800 AD, the Galleon "Cleopatra" finally arrives at it's destination... other nations started to Colonize these parts, but the Egyptians arrived in time to claim the Uranium! We land our settlers, worker and and rifleman and the Galleon sets sail back to Egypt.

Giza is founded in 1805 AD and our workers immediately start to connect the Uranium. We start building a Theatre to fight the culture borders of the Persians and Indians.

The following years are not very interesting.... we make some scientific progress, trade a bit with the other nations and have a great engineer build Wall Street in Tiwanaku. We find a source of Aluminium within our borders.

The "Cleopatra" has been upgraded to a Transport and new settlers have been send to colonize another Island... Unfortunately we arrive too late at the location we wanted to build our settlement, but Byblos is founded anyway in 1860 AD.

The discovery of Rocketry in 1872 AD brings us in the Modern Era! The Egyptians start the construction of the Manhattan Project in 1876 AD. This project should give the Egyptian people a very powerful weapon...

Scotland Yard is build in Tiwanaku in 1882 AD and starts training a Spy. Satellites are then discovered in 1890 AD which will give us a complete map of the world! Let's have a look:

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image080.jpg

Strange enough our Satellites can only see land... not cities! The continent to the northeast of Egypt seems quite empty, but is in fact fully inhabited by the Mongolian Empire and the Romans!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image081.jpg

In 1904 AD the Manhattan Project is completed in Thebes! This will allow the Egyptian people to build ICBM's... a powerful Nuclear Bomb, weapon of mass destruction which will cause havoc to any enemy that is foolish enough to attack Egypt. In the same year Hatshepsut makes some changed in her Government, Free Speech, State Property and Theocracy are adopted.

In the early 1900's Hatshepsut and her generals come up with a plan to invade Germany. The construction of a new army has already been started... the army will consist of Cavaleries, Tanks, Artilleries, Gunships and Fighters. The idea is to start the attack from Munich, then move on to Stuttgard, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Essen and finally Berlin. Hatshepsut is not interested in the southern German cities.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image083.jpg

The Egyptian army is ready for the attack... 10 Tanks, 6 Artilleries, 5 Cavaleries and a Gunship are ready just outside Munich. We declare war on the Germans and start assaulting the city with our Artillery.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image084.jpg

The artillery devastates the defenses of Munich so our Tanks can start rolling in the very same year!

Stuttgard falls just as easy in 1936 AD, our wounded and damaged units are healing, the remaining forces are send to capture...not Frankfurt as initially planned but Hamburg and Dusseldorf instead. This war is going a lot easier than we imagined!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image088.jpg

Our first Nuclear weapon has been constructed in Tiwanaku in 1940 AD. Hatshepsut decides not to use this weapon in the war against Germany. However, if any other nation decides to attack Egypt and help the Germans, she will not hesitate to use the weapon on their capital city. The world has been warned...

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image089.jpg

The German counter attacks are quite hopeless... a German Frigate is able to destroy some fishing boats, but is easily taken care off by an Egyptian Transport! This event did alarm Hatshepsut though, and she starts building a submarine and Battleship.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image090.jpg

Hamburg is easily captured by the mighty Egyptian forces in 1944 AD.

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image091.jpg

Dusseldorf follows in 1952 AD, but Hatshepsut decides to burn the city to the ground. Dusseldorf has nothing interesting to offer and is not worth paying upkeep for!

Meanwhile, Hatshepsut is informed that several nations have started building Spaceship parts!!! Hatshepsut herself was so far focusing on this war, but can no longer ignore this. The Apollo Program was started some years ago, but won't be finished until around 1960 AD. Hatshepsut decides not to go for Berlin... Frankfurt will be the last city to conquer from the Germans, then she will have to catch up with the Space Race. The Mongols, Romans, Indians and Persians have all started building Spaceship parts.

Frankfurt is captured in 1958 AD and this event is the end of the war... We agree to a cease fire with Bismarck. Hatshepsut will now fully focus her efforts to the Space Race!

The Apollo Project is finished in 1960 AD and we start building the Space Elevator in Thebes to speed up the construction of Spaceship parts. The Space elevator is completed in 1974 AD, with the help of a Great Engineer. Meanwhile other cities have already constructed some parts, but there's more parts needed. The UN has been build by the Indians and votes have been taking place every few years but no leader has been chosen... The candidates are Hatshepsut and Gandhi, but many nations abstain from voting. Hatshepsut has the support from the Romans, but strange enough her friends and allies the Persians are voting for Gandhi! Hatshepsut tries to bribe Cyrus with some Gold and Technologies, but all this doesn't help... later on she even loses the votes from Rome. But... Gandhi is not getting enough support either, so the main focus will remain on the Space Race!

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image093.jpg

In 1988 AD India and Egypt are leading the Space Race... both need only one part, the SS Engine. Hatshepsut has send her spy into India to find the Indian city that is building this part...

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image094.jpg

The Indian city of Madras is being inspected and needs only 3 more years to complete the SS engine!! Now let's have a look at Frankfurt, the former German city that's building this very same part for Egypt...

http://www.netrexgp.nl/img/image095.jpg

Frankfurt still needs 5 year to complete the construction of Egypts final part for the spaceship! Hatshepsut will loose the spacerace by only 2 years if nothing is being done about this!!!
The Egyptian treasure has grown to about 4000 Gold... plenty to fund a sabotage mission in Madras! Hatshepsut gives her ok for the mission and the Spy succesfully sabotaged the production of SS Engine in Madras! Madras needs another 8 year now to complete SS Engine while the Egyptians can finish it in 5 years!

In 1992 AD, the Egyptian people succesfully launch their Spaceship to Alpha Centauri!! That year will always be remembered as the greatest scientific achievement of mankind. Hatshepsut and Egypt have stand the test of time!

I might do another story game in the future, this was my first and enjoyed playing a game like this. It's also nice to read back and see old screenshots of the early-game later on.
However, if I'm gonna run a new story I will definitely remove some of the victory conditions.. I didn't really like the space race ending, to be honest I wanted to do some more modern age conquest and maybe even use some of those nukes I had build ;). This was also my first single player Noble game I have won, I tried a few before but were no succes. I'll try a few more Noble games and then move on to Prince.

Very nice, I enjoyed reading it.
I also don't like the Space Race victory condition, same with the time-victory.
But congratulations anyway. :goodjob:

Great Job Dimy! I agree with you however about the victory conditions. I'm focusing on a different win each game I have played so far so I can win each way. Two days ago I won a space race so in the game I started today, I turned that victory off. You may want to do this so you can get a feel for each victory condition. I only have the score and conquest victory condition left to beat, and then I'm going to do whichever pleases me. Anyways, great story, I'll be looking for more from you in the future.

Well I managed to win by Diplomatic Victory on Prince level (playing germans on a standard Continents map with 7 AI's, didn't think it was possible, but I actually made 3 AI's vote for me:) I had SS victory turned off, but that didn't matter... the most advanced AI at the time of my victory wasn't able to build all spaceship parts anyway :)

Just wondering. In case you spy fails or maybe if you don't have any money, can't you send ICBMs to India to slow down the SS engine production?

I suppose you could...but that also means you declare war, while using a spy to sabotage can be done "peacefully" :goodjob:

Nice game, interesting read. :) I would have used the ICBM's for the spaceship part though. :-p
