fimp Jan 05, 2002, 06:20 AM What program have you used to make that animation?
s3d Jan 05, 2002, 10:59 AM Paint shop Pro and Animation Shop free trail versions, and of cause FLICster . Base unit was immortal.
civ3n00bie Jan 05, 2002, 03:13 PM where can i get those programs :)....
KALIROB2k2 Jan 05, 2002, 03:20 PM Very very nice s3d!:goodjob: Your doing some really good work here, keep it up and keep bringing the units. :)
lordroy Jan 05, 2002, 05:30 PM um... one thing....
it is spelled Assassin... total of 4 s'es
MoonmyungGomoon Jan 05, 2002, 08:09 PM You have another own unit???
s3d Jan 06, 2002, 02:50 AM to civ3noobie :
Animation shop (10mb) and Paintshop (30mb) free trail version are at
http://www.jasc.com/ (http://www.jasv.com)
30-day trail period. (after that you can remove them and install again or be really bad, bad boy and use crack <not encouraged !>)
You also need FLICster from utility forum of this side and read exellent Dark Sheer manual on unit creation on creation forum.
Moeniir Jan 06, 2002, 09:03 PM Neat Animation! here's another view of the attack animation, without the migraine colors ;)
Moeniir Jan 06, 2002, 09:05 PM Whoops! Trying again...

Nice work there, Moeniir ;)
No test run on those units created by me eh? I can see that you have been testing the other units but not mine? :king:
KALIROB2k2 Jan 07, 2002, 04:19 AM Nice looking unit graphics. :goodjob: Thanks for taking out the neon purple background
Exsanguination Jan 11, 2002, 05:19 PM congratulations, this is the first unit that doesn't look like a civ2 unit!!!!

Sorry! :D Besides, I figure I don't need to test your units, as you are the :king: of units... they always work ;) ! But, I thought I had posted some of yours as well. I'll certainly go take a look.
But ya know, I've been making the demo pictures using FLICster, with AS at the very end to create the GIF. It's a pain... a bunch of steps involved. I think I'll add that as a feature in the next release... "Create Demo". Only, I'll create AVI since GIF is copyrighted (hmm, except I don't think the forums auto-display AVIs... well, i'll check into it anway).
Moeniir Jan 11, 2002, 09:58 PM As promised, I have posted animated gifs (using grey backgrounds) of some of DarkSheer's units... those appearing in his sig block. If you don't have them yet, check them out!
micmc_atl_ga Jan 11, 2002, 11:19 PM The unit looks great!
Petty bickering question though, did you redo the unit frame by frame, or did you figger a way to do a master 'redo' (basically a recolorling) then touching up.
Again great job! I'd say keep up the good work, but um, that would sound like ahh, I just wanted to use you for your new units wouldn't it *G*
s3d Jan 13, 2002, 04:36 AM Recoloring . I used greyscale convertor from PSP and after that
loaded palette back. However for the next units I'm going to use 3d models and automated frame generation.
micmc_atl_ga Jan 13, 2002, 06:32 AM Heya S3d,
Wow, that was a lot of work to recolor, I started a project to do the same basic thing, --it's out there with the homebulit biplane and 1997's taxes, it will get done, one day.
I was trying the 3d modeling thing, experimenting with it, I was using Simpose from The Sims, the process would work, if I had more artistic talent, (got no concept of shadowing, all of my stuff turned out looking too flat). What prog. were you thinking about using? If you don't mind me asking?

It took me about 1.5 weeks to finish Assassin (.5-2 hours /day). That is why I wont to use 3d for next

If I'll do shadow at all I'll write simple D3D prog to do it. I'm going to use free models from www.3dcafe.com and may be edit them a little. After that if I'l be in mood I'm going to write automated frame generator(in BMP format, I dont know PCX format).

Good idea. When you get models from 3dcafe, what format do you use? 3ds? DO you have a full 3d tool such as 3dS, or do you have another way to read the 3ds file format?
I've been kicking around the idea of working with directX and trying some d3d stuff, but I'll need 3d models to work with, and I don't have any 3d modeling tool.
micmc_atl_ga Jan 13, 2002, 11:36 AM Doing it with 3d models is probably the fastest for factory style production. Once you got things set up all you'd have to do is change the texture, the modifiy the frame movements, camera angles, actually since alot of units would use the same basic movement (how many different ways can you swing a sword, when you're only deal with pics that are 50 pixcles tall) it would be even faster.
Let me know if you would when you get things written, (and what else I'd need), I'm pretty good at forcing Tab A into Slot B, once I know what I'm doing.
I just gotta learn circular shadowing, so a thigh looks like a thigh not a stick on the end of a bigger stick.
Again, good job on the unit, put it in today, it looks great, nice alt. unit for Persians, (throwing the immortals over to the babol's cuz bowman lack a certain sumthin.)

Willem Mar 10, 2002, 01:35 PM I've added your Assassin graphics to my game and I really like it, you've done a good job. There is one thing that I'd like to mention though, the guy's head tends to look like a black blob. It would be nice if there were a little bit more of his face showing through.
Kingpin Jun 04, 2002, 07:31 AM It took me a while to convince myself that there really was room in my game for an assassin. But I convinced myself and I like it.
I'm using it as a hidden nationality warrior with movement as roads checked. Works out great.
Thanks!
Meop79 Jun 15, 2002, 06:31 PM I LOVE IT!!!
I'm using it like this. Prerequisit:Polytheism, attack of 10, defense of 1, move of 1, all terain as roads, Cost of 12, ZC checked, HP Bonus -3, Invisible, detect invisible, Hiden nationality, Amphibious, Foot Unit, Load, Airlift, Pillage, Offensive land script.
It Rocks it usually kills all lower units BUT sometimes it gets caught(Target attacks first) and then it almost always dies, it also almost always dies when attacked.

I've done the same, and sometimes I think I created a monster. :(
