Now, I am a fan of CIV and have been since Civ 2. I thought I was pretty good at Civ 3, too. Along comes Civ 4 and so far I just can't get my head around it. I try Prince level and whooosh, I'm gone by 200 AD. Hmmm, so I move down to noble, where I read that you're on equal terms with the AI.

So, first game on Noble I lose to a points victory, then I lose out to the Space race (despite having been voted UN SG but no diplo victory). My next game is on the level below Noble as I'm clearly rubbish at Civ 4 currently. I chose Frederick, small map, I get to within ten turns of the end of the game, leading in points, UN SG and nearing 3 legendary culture cities - that's my route to victory. I needed one more turn for the third city to become legendary when Lizzie wins a space race Iw asn't even in.

How close! So nearly my first victory (next time huh?). I know what to change next time - I left it too late to move to 100 % culture and also should have had my 3 big cities producing culture earlier (hadn't thought of it until 50 turns left...).

Ho hum.

Go for conquest/domination victory only. Im sure you will pick up a win there. :king:

It's always best to go for the easiest level first.

I'm not a major fan of conquest, mainly because I always end up failing when I try to steal a city or two :O

why is your research set to 0%? Thats scary... Liz was building a space ship while you were still researching plastics.

By the look of your map, your civilization still thought the world was flat too.

I like Pangea so the world looked flat.

My research was 0 % because I was after a cultural victory all the way through. Equally, by the time I took the screenshot I needed no more techs to build the spaceship, just time to build it (although as I said I had nearly won it culturally).

Anyway, played a new game on chieftain today and won culturally (epic game so 75 K/city) and nearly had a domination. COuld have won diplomatically too as I had enough votes to win it myself.

Fun, but too easy. I need to go back up and try and win on warlord now then hopefully make it on noble sooner rather than later....

My first 20 games I kept playing like it was Civ3 and I kept losing.

You gotta know where you want to go in the tech tree, think about Great People, and pay attention to diplomacy more than you ever did in Civ3.

But I finally won as Russia/Space Race on the Earth18civs map. What an epic game!
