i was playing as the English on Aanars small edition map, 8 civs, started just below the british isles.
I expanded like mad and looted so many goodie huts that I have had a 6 tech lead over everyone the whole game long. I expanded to the east of my capital, but when I wanted to go west I found that the Indians and Germans were in my way... An army of swordsmen and a dozen settlers later my empire had tripled in size.:crazyeyes With the destruction of the aformentiond civs, I encountered the babalonians, chinese, egyptians, and the persians. Once I had the infrastructure in my colonies finished and had solidified my boarders I looked outward. At the Babs to be exact. they had annoyed me by planting two settlements within my now closed boarders. This time however, I was not going to destroy them, I was going to cripple them.Operation *Kiss My Ass* had begun. After a few hundred years I had reduced them to 1 small town. (They had seceded 3 others just like it and taught me some nifty stuff in return for peace. Then the ungraTEFULL WRETCHES TOOk TWO of their CITYS back. I let this slide. (They did pay well after all) From then on, they did everything I asked. They founded some new settlements, reaserched tech for me, built up their military in preparation for a joint assult upon the Egyptian filth... Then, BAM! they had tried to extort china. China had such a large military that they sent two contingents of warriors. (note sarcasm) The Babs saw this, laughed, and sent hoards of swordsmen over the chinese boarders. At the end of that bloody war the Babs had become a 30 city superpower. At the wars start they had 5. Not good. I had 35. (Operation *Kiss My Ass* had failed.) I had cavalry. I was still in despotism. I rushbuilt more cavalry. I looked on in disgust as once promising towns became cemataries. (Just without the nice dirt cover) I attacked the Babs. Me: 74
If I had left them alone after their conquest, they might have taken me out to lunch as well! I never thought that the comp could bounce back like that...
Anyone ever get a 'pet civ' to stay a 'pet'?
BTW, if you have similar stories about civs coming back from the dead, please post them.:goodjob:

Well, I am playing as the Russians and the Japanse started off on a peninsula, and although have 4 or 5 cities and are making some money, and have 4 luxuries, they are my pet. I have blockades to hunt down any setler boats, I get 5 gold a turn, their map, any tech they couldn't possibly have, there excess luxuries, and the assurance that it is all quiet on the northern front:D

I was playing the slightly cheated moomin's pangea map, on monarchy level, as the egyptian. Yeah, having that huge mass of land with all those resources helps. The Germans has declared war on me all of the sudden around 200AD, and I managed to give some techs to every other 6 civilizations to wage war on him. I didn't see the germans lose any cities, though. Must have been a more or less equal battle. A few hundred years later I got Calvary, and began massacrating the german cities like a blitz. (Calvary against spearmen and archers) The whole empire was mine, and although the other 6 civs had two thirds of the map together, they were all scared of me and I made use of it. I requested cities (especially new built ones) and they had to give them to me. Often cities would fall by cultural influence. There was a western istmus of the mainland that was colonized by all of the cities (each civ had around 2 or 3 citie).
One by one, the second civ in power waged war on me. I did the same strategy all the time. I make all other civs wage war on them, and personally direct a mass attack with Calvaries on the poor spearmen/pikemen. The english had it really bad, in the second turn they declared war on me, they lost around 12 cities, having 3 left, because my mech inf and mod arms attacked form the three flanks - the russian south, the french west and babylonian east. Poor dudes. It's all about hegemony.

Not suprised a bit, only spearmen and swordsmen, 15 total to be exact... I think I will launch a "Big Brother" STrategy, treating them as my province, I will protect them through the game, give them necessary rescources like rubber and oil, you know, make them like a modern but weak nation:D

 I like to fuel arms races on neibouring continents. The Americans have access to loads of new resources, they have become a power to rival the Iroquis... Once they attack each other I shall strike! I shall wipe my closest competitors off the face of the earth! (Timeline 12, moon walker name: Jack Burroghs.);)

my last game that got that far (my civ doesn`t run anmore ) i even bought rubber salpeter from the russians and traded it to the americans for horses - guess where they went!
when both had fought out their battle on my ground (ROP for both but then i always made sure the cav had no retreat route) i mopped them both up within 30 turns (huge map!).
strange, bofre the event both had been stronger then me  :D

The Greeks make excellent pet civs. Trapped in a little corner of our continent with only 2 cities they obey my every whim. Since they border no one but me, any war they make won't get me in trouble.
They have been my pets for 3000 years (since about 2000 BC ^^)

I tried this with the Atecs. My new motto: "Never make a pet civ of the Atecs"
My mistake was allowing them coastal access. When my attentions were elsewhere, they joined in a fight against one of the other civs, and quickly took over their empire. When next I bothered to grace them with my attentions, they had a sizeable army, were well removed from my sphere of influence, and were suddenly a force to be reckoned with. All this from three cities. Sheesh.

once i was playing as germany, killed 2 civs.....aztec and zululand they just threw their stupid puny forces at me.....well anyways, i had the whole continnet to my self, france had killed everyone on her continent, so our civs were about the same, we were friends snce we traded techs, luxuries, maps, etc, but i had to win, so i made an army of about 50 panzers, and put them in 4 or 5 transports, when all transports wehre right there by their cost i mad th huge mistake ot land a paratrooper to secure their only oil suply, and out of nowhere they declare war!!!
sink my transports w/ subs!! and start a massive bombardment w/ destroyers!!! now that was something i didnt see everyday, the war lsted for a looooong time, i eventually landed about 70 tanks and took paris in 1924!!! joan of arc had been defeated!

I may have the best pet civ ever. I was playing as the Americans on a pangea map. Me, Britain, France, and Russia had an alliance against the second strongest nation in the world, Germany (where does this ring a bell?). I took some cities and then gave them to my close ally Russia. Russia was right above my territory, with Germany on a peninsula to the northeast, France to the southeast, and England to the southwest, with me in the middle. Germany fought back ALL of the attackers and started claiming Russian land. I got pissed and beat down the Germans, but not before they razed almost every Russian city. I decided to save Russia by giving them a city in the middle of my empire which was originally theres from a previous war. Moscow was saved by my marines but i wanted to keep it :king: so I just stuck them in the middle of my empire. Just to be sure that they wouldn't try anything fancy, I surrounded them with infantries. Anyway, they eventually asked for a ROP and I granted it. They then declared war on the MUCH STRONGER France (idiots...). France crossed over my border and I told them to leave, when they didn't I commenced to kick ass. I destroyed France and captured every city. I kept Paris and Tours and gave the rest to Russia. To make suure they wouldn't do anything else I surrounded them with mechs and modern armors this time and gave them basically everything they needed, except resources. They were totally cut off from every resource except for aluminum, so they couldn't declare war on anything. I eventually grew tired of England and made an alliance with Russia against them. While invading England, I sent a huge force down to Russia and conquered both at the same time! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!*COUGH*
