View Full Version : Culture vs. Conquest
c.fe Nov 01, 2005, 06:36 PM I've made a small scenario to test the modding in Civ4. It's Ghandi versus Napoleon on the smallest map-size. There are only too winning conditions enabled: Conquest and cultural victory. Napoleon's only city is the christian holy city, while Ghandi has hinduism's holy city. Ghandi has more advances already discovered, too.
To test the scripting/python thing in civ, i gave all of Napoleon's units combat I or if they had it already combat II. Ghandi's units get city garrison I automatically.
In this scenario it is neither possible to found any religion nor to research rocketry (how could this relate? :D ).
To use this mod, you have to extract the attached to your main civ-directory.
I've just tested the scenario three times and I made changes beetween all the tests, so I can not guaranty that this is balanced - I've, in fact, the feeling, that Napoleon is a bit harder to play. So give me your advice and...
... have fun.
Tommy1234567890 Nov 03, 2005, 06:12 PM no one gives a <The Man Deleted it!> about your post!!!!!!!!1
Tommy -- I really am very surprised that you decided to make this troll post at all considering the previous warnings and bans you have had. Such behavior is not welcome here, and it is useless. It does not provide an environment where people can enjoy themselves, and this is the purpose of it all. C.fe has taken the time to create something for people to enjoy and you come along and insert a post such as this. I cannot conceptualize why anyone would do that.
If you do enjoy making more such posts, they will be found and you will get a long break from these forums. You have had numerous other warnings and I am keeping track of your posts closely. Read your PM.

Nightfa11 Nov 09, 2005, 11:04 AM Sounds like a cool mod. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks!
Nightfa11 Nov 09, 2005, 09:53 PM Gave it a try tonight. Tried to reload an autosave and get cvc is an invalid mod directory. It is installed in the default dir as instructed.
I am enjoying it by the way. I decided to play as Napoleon, on Noble, and basically as "always war." As soon as I saw Ghandi, I declared and started harassing his city. Took him 4 units to take out my spearman in his forest :)
GoldEagle Nov 10, 2005, 05:16 AM I'll check it out tonight :D

Nightfa11 Nov 10, 2005, 10:41 PM Found out it was because the directory I saved it in was in mydocs and not program files.
Played it through tonight as Napoleon on Noble. Conquest in the 400bc range. Might try it at a harder difficulty.
Just out of curiousity, why two cities for the French? The other city was more hamper than help because I never got the ability to cross oceans.

You're talking about the location of the scenario, right?

So it's to easy for Napoleon?
About the second city. First I thougt, it could help Napoleon because Ghandi has quite an tech advantage. Then I saw, that it indeed hampers Napoleon, but I thougt that it just would slow Napoleon down. That doesn't seem to work too well. Perhaps I should give Ghandi 1-2 more starting units?

Yes, I put it in mods under mydocs\mygames rather than mods under prog files\firaxis\blah blah....
I don't know. I only played it on Noble...which is where I usually play scenarios (no bonuses for anyone).
I might try Ghandi when I get a chance.
It is a fun little scenario and a great quick game. Though I'm guessing Ghandi won't be quick because I need a culture victory. I'm also guessing the AI is hampered by not understanding the concept of "The other guy can only win via conquest so it's in his best interest to be always at war so I better build a heck of a defense while increasing my culture."
By the way, I like the conquest victory video. Pretty cool.
boris1119 Dec 09, 2005, 10:54 PM Cool mod. Small map though. Maybe second to smallest size? Got kicked to desktop in the middle of the game.:( oh well. Thank god i save.
