Hello civers,

I have just finished a preliminary version of the Civilization IV Reference Tech Tree, similar to what I did for C3C long time ago. While the poster we got is not bad, I miss the unit stats and building properties there. In addition, when playing, I like to have something more handy.

That is why I created this reference tree that is printable on a single two-sided A4 sheet. A lot of info is included, necessarily in a symbolic form, but I hope it is not difficult to understand.

While I tried to be careful when compiling all the info, I am unable to double-check everything. I suppoose there are errors and/or omissions and I will be grateful for comments and error corrections. Consider this a beta, hopefully corrected version will be posted someday.

Download CIV Reference Tech Tree here (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/CIV_Reference2.zip) (603 kB zip, pdf inside).

OLD:
Traits, Terrain stats and Resources (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/Traits_and_Terrain.zip) (115 kB zip, pdf inside).

Unit upgrade tree (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/Units.zip) (315 kB zip, pdf inside).

NEW:
All reference charts for v. 1.61 (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/CivRef1.61.zip) (855 kB zip, pdfs inside).

EDIT 11-7-05: Update version 0.95 uploaded, some typos and errors pointed out by ekanata corrected.

EDIT 11-16-05: Update version 0.96 uploaded, some small errors corrected. New files posted.

EDIT 04-24-06: Updated for Civilization IV v. 1.61

Nice work, though maybe a tad chaotic? Not to say that I could do any better. It's damn hard to fit in a lot of information in a small area!

Also, at first glance I noticed "Polyteism" is missing an 'h'.

:goodjob: ... especially with this crapy civilopedia

You should check however the environmentalism/ecology civic, if I recall correctly it provides 6 health level, not 5

looks great

for next version maybe 1 page per epoch with connecting lines for techs

no ... its 5 health (and +1 happiness in jungle/forest)

lfor next version maybe 1 page per epoch with connecting lines for techs

That's what I wanted to avoid. That would make six pages instead of two. Concerning the lines: My first version included the connecting lines but I found it too non-comprehensive - there were too many intersections. With the one page per epoch it would get even worse as there are quite many inter-epoch connections.

Great work.:goodjob:

However, I found that some tech requirement doesn't match those in http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/techtree/index2.php . I'm sorry that I can't compare it with the real game since my machine still doesn't allow it.

Here's the issues:
- radio: require nothing vs require electicity
- horse riding: require archery vs animal husbandry
- monotheism: only require polytheism vs also require masonry
- music: doesn't need mathematics vs does need.

Sorry, bad file linking. Newest version of the tech tree (0.96) posted as well two other files, the Unit upgrade tree and Traits, Terrain and Resources sheets.

Hope you find them useful....

Reagan: The jpegs are low res to be small enough, just to give a quick idea. Download the zips and print the pdfs....

Is that what the game actually uses?
Does it match the poster the comes with the game?
If it is different then is the poster still correct?

Really usefull. Almost everything in just 4 sheets :goodjob:.

But, I still have found 3 mistakes in your unit upgrade tree :
1) The indian Fast Worker has 3 movements (and not just 2).
2) I think the Spanish Conquistador doesn't have the 25% withdraw chance, but he benefits the defense bonuses.
3) You have forgotten the Bomber air unit.

Can you post a version without the texture background? It looks amazing, but when printing, its killing me! Or is there a way I can stop it from printing on my own? Im not too familiar with Acrobat.

Thanks!

I hope so....:)
Does it match the poster the comes with the game?
I haven't check in detail but it should....

ludociv: thanks, these errors are in the unit upgrade chart, the tech tree is correct, I guess. I will correct ti in the next version (after the patch is out)

cyalume: I will, once I feel that it is more or less bugfree...(I do not want to maintain many versions)

Could you add what terrain/feature types where each resource may be found. ie Fish - coast/ocean, bananas - jungle...etc.

Hello Kurato.

Yours is the cleanest tech tree outlay I have seen on the boards...

What does Optional Techs mean? For instance, I look at, say, Civil Service, it shows Code of Laws-Feudalism. Optional to me means you don't need, so what techs DO you need to get this tech? It has LEG(?) and Bureaucracy in red.

And, say, Pottery, it says you need the wheel, understood, but there is the Fishing-Agricultural next to it. This means that you must have the wheel tech first, and?

When you have two optional techs listed, does it mean you need both optional techs? I see a dash between them.

Regards and thanks.

John:)

Hello,

I am also getting an error when trying to download these files, and I would SO love to have them. I have a version prior to 1.61 and found these very useful. Please fix!

Thanks

Just wondering if anyone has created a Warlords version of this fantastic reference?

Sorry, not yet, but it is under (slow) progress. Even more information now to squeeze in....
