Civilization Stories (along with Civilization Modding) embody the creative and artistic spirit of the Civilization Community. But what makes a story?

A story is more than a game report. It looks past the surface hammers-and-coins of the Civ Game. It sees beyond the gaming mechanisms and sees each turn as a literary masterpiece; a story waiting to be told to the world. You're not reading a story about a game; you are reading a story about history.

I'm currently listeing only stories with over 1000 views, but if you think your story should be on here (reguardless of page views or site hosted on) but it isn't, please post in the topic to request it.

I like the civ stories. I myself just cannont take the time to write a story. I just want to play the game. I post comments here and there on my current games cuz i like the feedback i get. I just like sharing what i am doing in the game with other people and see what they have to say about it. I may make a story one day. It problably wont be as good as everyone elses but i would still enjoy doing it. I would just make a game on the side that i play slowly to make a store out of it and just have a regular game.

RIght now there seems to be more Game Reports than Story Reports. This is expected, given that the game has just came out and people are clamoring to get their experiences while it's so new and amazing. But after a few weeks, things will start to settle down as the game gets a bit more known and people have adjusted to it. That's when stories will come back.

Turn around time (for your info) is about 12-24 hours.

There is no cost and no limitations. Only thing required is some basic understanding on how to use an FTP client.

But what makes a story?

A story is more than just a Game Report. A story is seeing a game of Civilization and seeing it as a story. It's hard to describe when a Game Report becomes a Story Report. But the best way you can tell is when the author writes the game not as a game but as a literary work.
A story is an ongoing project. It is written not all at once, but over time, piece by piece. It is not a mere reflection about a game, but an active record of the game from the perspective of the game.

A good story is not a game report at all. It is a work of prose that immerses the reader into the game. It is not so much I did this, then that happened, but rather a novelette that embodies the history of the civilization that you haved founded, the empire that you have built.

For a great example (and a good read!), may I suggest one of the Civ3 stores about a One-City-Conquest (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=127546). Be forewarned, though, you may want to have a go at a OCC after reading this story!

I also recommend the story that I linked to in my Signature. These stories over-exagerate the qualities of a Story Report and show th game through more than one perspective.

You can take all of those ones that are mine off. Im not actually going to finish any of those. Im not doing any stories or game reports in the present time, but look for one in the future. I will actually finish one those ones arent finished cuz i was new to the game and just getting used to everything.

But for management's sake, I only recorded stories with 2000 or more pageviews...which is fairly easy to get.

I am thinking it will be fun to play a SG, maybe with 2-3 players, but each players continue the story for their turnset. Anyone done this before for SG? If so, could you list links to them? If not, who is interested in collaborate on a moving epic together?

I reckon you need to expand this from standard reports to any stories. My stories aren't reports cause the turn-by-turn narration style puts me to sleep in a hurry as does encyclopedia monologues. Sure a lot of people like those styles but it's not good to ignore the other writers who are unique. :sad:
