View Full Version : Playing the Save
Ginger_Ale Nov 04, 2005, 01:52 PM Another poll to see where Fanatika stands on the issue, an informal poll to guage which direction we should head in when writing the playing the save part of the rules.
X turns / day (please post what X should be (1, 2, 3, other? Don't make this too high) means a leader will play a set number of turns in one day, every day.
Turnchats means a leader will play a set number of turns (please define in post) in a turnchat. See the website for more info about these (http://demogame.civfanatics.net).

My vote is for 2 turns a day - if our game lasts 350 turns (pretty late -- 1750 AD), we will end 6 months later. That isn't too bad, and it will probably be less.
Alphawolf Nov 04, 2005, 02:06 PM What's 'Fanatika' Remember not everyone is a vet we have quite a few new people.

Nobody Nov 04, 2005, 02:30 PM I voted turnchat, but i am not totally against off line play. Because pratically speaking alot of people have computers that can only just handle civ4, the lag from Alt Tabing between game and chat could be bad
Armed_Maniac Nov 04, 2005, 03:06 PM 1 turn a day, helps those that can't be around for the turnchat...
I am the Future Nov 04, 2005, 04:10 PM 2 turns per day, other wise the Game could take a year

The name of our nation we have used in the past...

A piece of crap name we've used (with differant spellings) for about 4 Demogames. Hopefully we can actually be creative this game and find something better.
Double Stack Nov 04, 2005, 06:46 PM I rather Turnchats since we can do a lot more in a day than a few turns a day. With 3 day seperating each Turnchat or so with at least 10 turns or more. We do more than 3 turns per day method.
greekguy Nov 04, 2005, 06:46 PM Play 10 turns every 4 days in a turnchat.
Ginger_Ale Nov 04, 2005, 07:43 PM I rather Turnchats since we can do a lot more in a day than a few turns a day. With 3 day seperating each Turnchat or so with at least 10 turns or more. We do more than 3 turns per day method.
Uhh... 4 days * 3 turns a day = 12 turns
1 turnchat (every 4 days) = 10 turns
According to my calculations the 3 turns a day method would actually be quicker...
Armed_Maniac Nov 04, 2005, 08:55 PM to think of it... 1 turn a day would take more than a year... so perhaps 2 per day on weekdays and 3 on weekends? (or 2 sun-thur, and 3 fri-sat)
RegentMan Nov 05, 2005, 03:09 AM The current turnchat system is working out fine. Games take what, four or five months?
uubry Nov 05, 2005, 11:10 AM I say 2-3 turns a day, but not the weekday/weekend system.
Armed_Maniac Nov 05, 2005, 11:19 AM I say 2-3 turns a day, but not the weekday/weekend system.
Okay, my post was worthless...
But if the way it used to work is fine... then it should still be...
Furiey Nov 06, 2005, 04:33 PM Turnchat - I prefer a group of turns then a gap to give time for discussion in between. How many turns? difficult to say, as although I now have a copy of the game and it installed without error, it fails to recognise the DVD in the drive and won't start
Atma Nov 06, 2005, 06:15 PM I would say something around four or five turns per turnchat, though I have not taken part in any previous demogames so I may be off my rocker. Aw well, s'why I wanted in on this one, hopefully be as much of a learning experience for me as for others. <^_^>
RegentMan Nov 06, 2005, 10:11 PM Ten turns is usually the norm.
DaveShack Nov 07, 2005, 01:13 AM One lonely vote for other... ;)
I think it would be kinda cool to try to evolve the play sessions, by repeating what works with Civ4 and discarding what doesn't work.
Zayxus Nov 07, 2005, 03:21 PM 1 day / turn - by experience
Gloriana Nov 07, 2005, 07:36 PM The whole problem with turnchats is of course the ever-present time zone difference, so I've voted for turns/day, which should probably be 2 or 3.
Kras Nov 08, 2005, 07:17 AM TRUNCHATS! :)
I think that 3 turns in a row with total of 12 turns.
admiral-bell Nov 08, 2005, 09:09 PM turnchats.20 per TC
CivGeneral Nov 11, 2005, 09:11 PM We should keep it under the Turnchat category with a minumum of two turnchats per week.
donsig Nov 11, 2005, 10:07 PM Play two turns every day with a regular day off.
Axle Nov 12, 2005, 06:38 AM That might be completely stupid, but how would a system with one turnchat a week (probably on a WE day) and still 2 or 3 turns a day the rest of the week work ?
This would make the game faster, lessen the problem of timezone (easier to be there on week-ends), and still allow for once a week "global discussion" which looks fine. Then again, I'm pretty new to that so it might not be feasible.
