Tboy Nov 06, 2005, 10:12 AM I started playing CivIV recently, and took I liking to the 1 city challenge. So, is anyone up to one? Gnarfflinger Nov 08, 2005, 09:03 PM I could try this with the Mongols under Kubli Khan. Now does this mean onely one city period or can we keep any cities that we capture from other players?
I'm in Eastern time (GMT-5) and download my turns in the evenings.
HounddogLGS Nov 09, 2005, 01:20 AM sign me up as Alexander/Greece. (GMT-6)
Tboy Nov 09, 2005, 09:46 AM Well, Gnarflinger, that depends on what the people who signed up want. We'll play without the one city challenge game rule unless most people say otherwise.
BeefBayford Nov 09, 2005, 10:25 AM I'll sign up, put me in for Mansa Musa, I'm @ GMT.
Gnarfflinger Nov 10, 2005, 10:29 PM @Tboy: I think I saw my answer in the strategy guide. I think it just means that you can't build more settlers. I think it does let you keep the cities you take by force...
nowhere1 Nov 10, 2005, 11:28 PM Can I join a game? It sounds interesting. I think that duel-size map is too small to play with 10 players. How about tiny-size map?
Time zone: GMT+9
Leader: LouisXVI(France)
nowhere1 Nov 10, 2005, 11:30 PM How can I delete this message? I clicked [edit] button but I can't find anything that is related to the delete fuction. Modification is all I can do.

Tboy Nov 12, 2005, 02:14 AM Note: Under one city challenge, you can't have more than 1 city at a time. Not even ones you capture. If you don't want this rule up (it'll still be a sort of one city challenge for a lot of the game) then please state so. Otherwise, we will use it.

baronzilch Nov 12, 2005, 03:47 PM If this hasn't started already, I'd be interested. I'd prefer China over Rome, if that's all that's left. I'm PST, not sure what that is in GMT ;).
Let me know at baronzilch@telus.net.
infekt Nov 12, 2005, 10:43 PM alright, well, we're almost there we just need one more right?

Tboy Nov 13, 2005, 04:39 AM OK, those who have not already done so either post or PM me your e-mail addresses and state if you want the actual one-city challenge rule on (only allowed to control one city at a time).
BeefBayford Nov 13, 2005, 09:48 AM OCC on a Duel sized map will be awesome. Culture will be quite important because the cities will be so close together.
dimeat Nov 13, 2005, 09:52 AM Well since it is a one city challenge, I'd rather have that rule on
Tboy Nov 13, 2005, 12:58 PM Ok, unless an overwhelming majority later objects to it, one city per player. Keep sending the e-mail addresses, when I have them all I'll send them out along with the turn order, and we'll start (YAY!).
By the way, does anyone want the speed increased? Its going to be pretty long, with 18 people.
BeefBayford Nov 13, 2005, 01:07 PM Yeah I'm thinking to set the speed to quick. Also I think you should wait for the patch before starting the game, there are known problems with PBEM on Civ4.
Tboy Nov 13, 2005, 02:09 PM OK, do you know when we'll be able to get the patch?
BeefBayford Nov 13, 2005, 02:22 PM It was meant to be released this week (ie. in the last 7 days) so hopefully it'll be out this coming week.
baronzilch Nov 13, 2005, 03:02 PM PST is GMT-8. Also, China has two leaders please state your preferred leader.
Qin Shi Huang.
Gnarfflinger Nov 13, 2005, 11:08 PM Don't know if I've put this out, but mine is kashgar_the_unwanted at yahoo dot ca
dimeat Nov 15, 2005, 08:22 PM Is this game going to start anytime soon?
nowhere1 Nov 16, 2005, 02:39 AM Is this game going to start anytime soon?
I'm wondering how the game is going. Looking forward.
ackum Nov 16, 2005, 07:50 AM Have we really started? Tboy made it sound like we were waiting for the patch...
Tboy Nov 16, 2005, 09:52 AM Yes, we are waiting for the patch. If it doesn't hurry up though, we may start before it. If we do start before the patch comes, unless the patch comes within the first few turns, do not patch. Patching games often ruins save games made before the patch (for example my Rome: Total War save games screwed up when I got patch V.1.3).
baronzilch Nov 21, 2005, 01:36 PM Anyone who plays regular MP as well as PBEM will have to patch. I'm in that camp.
Civ3 saves were not backwards compatible after patches, if I remember correctly, so it stands to reason that Civ4 will be the same.
Tboy Nov 21, 2005, 02:35 PM Ok, we'll hope so. I still think we should wait for the patch though, because as well as fixing bugs it makes some gameplay changes.
godmstr Nov 21, 2005, 11:45 PM we could be waiting for patches forever
i say just play and when the patch comes we can decide to patch or not
HounddogLGS Nov 21, 2005, 11:52 PM we could be waiting for patches forever
i say just play and when the patch comes we can decide to patch or not
I agree- there's a post from Friday the 4th saying "the patch is coming next week". It's now (just barely) Tuesday the 22nd. However, I would strongly advise against large or huge maps due to the problems with the game- I'm experiencing those myself.
Tboy Nov 22, 2005, 10:07 AM Well, does anyone know how long testing a patch takes? Because it was sent off for final testing on the 14th. If we don't have the patch by Friday, then we'll start the game, and discuss whether to patch or not if it comes out afterwards.
Herandar IV Nov 22, 2005, 07:40 PM According to the discussion from the people that played the game using the aborted patch, pre-patch games play fine.
HounddogLGS Nov 22, 2005, 07:44 PM According to the discussion from the people that played the game using the aborted patch, pre-patch games play fine.
Huh?? What are you talking about?
Herandar IV Nov 22, 2005, 07:55 PM http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3355861&postcount=39
HounddogLGS Nov 23, 2005, 02:57 AM OK thanks, Herrandar. I hadn't even heard the patch was out. Well looks like the long awaited patch is in the toilet for the time being. At this point I can't say that I'm a bit surprised. I think if we wait on them to get things right, we won't get this game started before the new year. I vote we get things going, just limit the map size to alleviate some of these performance issues- shouldn't be a problem for a one-city challenge anyhow.
So what say you, shall we get the show on the road??
White Elk Nov 23, 2005, 04:01 AM I see all slots are full. Can I sign up as an alternate?
Tboy Nov 23, 2005, 10:01 AM White Elk, I take it you mean as a substitute player to fill in if someone quits?
White Elk Nov 23, 2005, 12:39 PM Yep! In the unlikely event it'd be needed.
Tboy Nov 23, 2005, 01:32 PM Ok, you're welcome.
White Elk Nov 23, 2005, 02:14 PM Okay, I'll be watching and waiting and keeping abreast. PM me if you need me.
JeremiahCivFan Nov 23, 2005, 02:57 PM I don't care who you sign me up for and I'm kinda new at this multiplayer thing so for all I know you coulld have already started. Please reply to this message so I know.
JeremiahCivFan Nov 23, 2005, 02:59 PM Oh and I forgot, my time is Eastern, United States of New YOrk Or LIma of whichever of those makes you understand the time frame.
Tboy Nov 24, 2005, 09:36 AM JeremiahCivFan. all spaces are full, but if you want you can sign up as a substitute player like White Elk. Is this OK?
On other business...THE PATCH IS OUT! Could everybody download and install this immediately, otherwise there may be game problems if some people patch and others don''t.
HounddogLGS Nov 24, 2005, 07:55 PM WARNING!
I've seen a few good comments about this 1.09 patch, but I'm starting to see a lot more bad stuff- such as more instability, etc. I installed the patch myself, but I haven't had a chance to give it a test drive yet.
Also, I've seen a couple of posts saying that the patch makes the passwords not work in the PBEM game- not sure if that means it totally kills PBEM or you have to play without passwords. Haven't had a chance to test that yet either.
I'm beginning to see a lot of things I would rather have blown my fifty bucks on.
Herandar IV Nov 24, 2005, 08:07 PM Also, I've seen a couple of posts saying that the patch makes the passwords not work in the PBEM game- not sure if that means it totally kills PBEM or you have to play without passwords. Haven't had a chance to test that yet either.
Yeah, I think the patch does not recognize the password from pre-patched saves. If you don't have a password, there should be no problem, but I don't think I can get back into any of my current PBEM games...
I saw one of the changes in the patch was password encryption or something, but this is silly. Other than that, I have had no problems playing with the patch.
Herandar IV Nov 24, 2005, 08:08 PM Asides from my computer crashing at 80% downloaded, and then having to reboot and then wait another 35 minutes to download it again.
Obviously.
Gnarfflinger Nov 24, 2005, 09:41 PM I haven't had any trouble with the patch yet. The only complaint was that it took about 2 hours to download it on Dial up. Had I not had other things to do online, I'd have gone nuts!
infekt Nov 25, 2005, 08:36 PM Well, I'm patched and ready to go.
Gnarfflinger Nov 25, 2005, 10:27 PM I actually like the new patch...
godmstr Nov 26, 2005, 09:07 PM well we were waiting for the patch and now its here
when we gonna begin?
Tboy Nov 28, 2005, 04:01 AM I'll start when I get home tonight, assuming everyone has given their e-mail (not quite sure, so many people...)
Tboy Dec 10, 2005, 10:58 AM Sorry to be so late in doing anything.
I now have everyone's e-mail addresses except for ranathari's and ckknight's. Please give me your e-mails soon, so we can start.
Most people have voted yes on one city challenge, I have put that along with the rest of the rules in the first post.
infekt Dec 10, 2005, 02:03 PM Awesome... We may get this show on the road yet.
Tboy Dec 13, 2005, 09:49 AM WARNING!
Ranathari and ckknight, if you do not reply soon with your e-mail addresses, our two substitute playeres will take your place.
Herandar IV Dec 13, 2005, 09:18 PM I'm interested as substitute.
cloudraine Dec 14, 2005, 11:26 AM I'm interested as substitute.
As am I! Picking up the slack from any lackadiasial players :D
Tboy Dec 15, 2005, 10:17 AM I'll start the game on Monday (I'll be away over the weekend), with substitutes if ranathari's and ckknight's e-mail addresses aren't sent to me by then.
infekt Dec 15, 2005, 08:19 PM well that's ok with me... I'll be gone for the weekend too, in Vegas!
Tboy Dec 21, 2005, 04:38 AM Sorry about being late again.
I think, considering most people will be busy or away over Christmas, it would be best to start in the new year, if there are no objections.
Herandar IV Dec 21, 2005, 04:47 AM Start now! The game might not get rolling until next year, but you also might be a turn or two into the game on January 1st instead.
Gnarfflinger Dec 21, 2005, 08:18 PM I'll be away on the first BTW.
Tboy Dec 29, 2005, 06:36 AM Another patch (v1.52) has come out! This one does a LOT of good to the game, such as better running on slower computers, so everyone please DL it ASAP.
infekt Dec 29, 2005, 12:43 PM yeah the new patch is a lot better.
so are we about ready to get this game started?
Tboy Dec 31, 2005, 04:45 AM Soon. Since Ranathari and ckknight haven't sent their e-mails or contacted us at all, they will be replaced by Herandar IV and White Elk.
Herandar IV and White Elk, please request which of Ranathari's and ckknight's civs you wish to play.
White Elk Dec 31, 2005, 06:12 AM I'm not sure if your asking for the civs or leaders, so I'll post both.. I'd prefer playing the Indians and Gandhi is my prefered Indian leader. Eygpt is my second choice and Hatsehput is the only Eygptian leader. (v1.52) GMT -7
Herandar IV Dec 31, 2005, 09:22 AM Whatever is left. Not picky. Generally play between 01.00-06.00 GMT.
Herandar IV Jan 30, 2006, 09:04 PM What happened?
Tboy Feb 03, 2006, 02:42 AM This is a project I'm still working on. I'll try to get it started over the weekend.
