VERY nice. However, I would label the F1-F7 keys as "information" rather than "advisors", considering their actual function relative to those in Civ3. Good job, and I'm sure I will be consulting this list in the future.

Perhaps you could add a section for the different controls in flying camera mode?

No, but it may be F2. I'll check.

Good suggestions, rbird. I'll be updating the list as often as possible.

What does "Intercept" do?
I don't know, to be honest. A friend of mine and I were discussing that feature tonight. We thought it may be the equivalent of Civ 3's Patrol command for air units. Patrol was kinda like sentry but air units on patrol would attack enemy air units when ever they flew within range. So Intercept may be like Patrol.

What is flying camera mode? It gives you more control over the 3D view (zoom limits are removed, more possible angles, etc.). You have to enable it in the .ini file and then turn it on with Ctrl-F. I'm not exactly sure what the controls are in this mode (thus why I asked for it! :)) but I know they're different from the standard mode.

The "home" key, as used in Civ3, SMAC, and virtually every single RTS ever made.

Controls for flying camera (that I know of) are up down left right (arrow keys) mousewheel, where

arrow keys rotate left right up down
and the mouse wheel gets you forward and backwards.
It's a bit like a flying submarine, e.g. a space ship.

For the flying camera you can use the PgUp/PgDown keys to control altitude (much better than just diving with the mousewheel). Also, I find it easier to use th up/down arrows to control forward/backwards movement, as I get a smoother movement. Ah, and remember to take some pics (PrintScreen key) of your capital (turning off both units (CRTL-B) and the GUI (CRTL-I) :goodjob: )

Yeah I miss it too, but it looks like they used 'H' for something else this time.

I find the best replacement, if not perfect, when you want to return from the other side of the planet, is to use the actual 'home' key to return to your nearest city and then manually scroll to the capital. Not a lot of use if your cities are spread around the globe of course.

I found that if you push "z," then the screen says something like "Grip Mode" and that makes the screen scroll oddly. (IIRC, you click somewhere and when you move the mouse, it keeps where you first clicked on screen, and it moves the screen...)
To get out of grip mode you press z again.
Could someone try this out more?

Hi Guys,

I have 3 spearmans, and 7 swordmans in the same tile (all fortified). How do I select the 7 swordman to attack my opponent?

What I did was:
1- activate a swordman,
2- ctrl-c,
3- Drag into the opponent.

Consequently, Only 1 swordman attacked !!!

Please help.

If you select one of the swordsmen, and then ctrl-click on the space, that will select all of the swordsmen and none of the spearmen.

But really, you would rather select and attack with them one at a time, unless they all have exactly the same promotions and health. Because you can gain by controlling the order in which they fight, instead of letting the computer decide.

Is there shortcut for instructing several bombers to strike a locatation? I've tried the ctrl-click and it doesn't seem to work. While there are benefits to selecting individual ground and sea units it just gets too monatenous selecting every bomber to strike a position. :X

It's really strange because the game lets you "bomb" with several units just not strike.

Same solution applies to both of you. Turn on "Stack attack" in the options menu. Then, select the stack, and attack, or do your bombing mission, or what have you.

(NOTE: This will cause all of your ships to do recon to the same square if you happen to have them selected and hit the recon mission.....kind of annoying)

Maybe I skimmed your (helpful) article too quickly, but I didn't notice the shortcut for adding a note to your game map: Alt-S. I learned this one by reading the tips as one of my world maps was being generated.

I find this very useful to remind myself where I want to place future cities. Also, sometimes you can deduce where an opponent's city must be because you can see the cultural border but not the city itself, so you can note its location. (Early in the game, you might even be able to figure out what the name of the city is if it's the capital or one of the first couple colonies.)

Question: I tried to download the Word doc and Netscape says no such file. Can someone help?

Thanks to all for clearing up the lack of a way to return to one's capital. I really, really, hate that. Really.

However, what I am most missing now, other than a separate map editing program, is setting one or more rally points. I saw a thread on this a month or so ago, but couldn't make it make sense, nor could I find any way to make it actually work. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

A worthless city (A couple of tiles away from a couple of my wonder cities) from the Japanese culture-flipped to me. I dont want the city and it is a drag on my economy. :(

If you turn down the option to raze it when it flips to you, then the only way to raze it later is to give it away (or let someone conquer it) and then recapture it.

Well, that's just part of the game.

If you mistakenly create a city, the simplest thing to do would be to load the autosave file from immediately before that mistake.

You can set up the game so that it will autosave every turn.

Shift + right clicking a tile will set a waypoint for whichever cities are selected. Shift right- clicking the city will cancel the waypoint. With multiple cities selected, right-clicking just one of the cities will cancel the waypoints for all of the cities.

I think this is CTRL-A and also affects all units with goto orders.

There is also an shortcut (can't remember which off hand) that cancels all queued orders. This is very useful (well would be if I could remember it) for instance when your workers are chopping forest to avoid hammers going towards the wrong build or when you need to respond to some unexpected event such as an unexpected AI DoW. Not that that ever happens in my games

To issue a global cancel, select a worker (before it has done the current turns work), hold down the alt key and click in 'cancel orders'. That will free up all workers either this turn or next.

You have to zoom out to the level where you have the clouds visible, then use the leftmost button in the lower right corner to switch to "drawing" mode and select "new line". Have fun

Is there a way to upgrade a number of the same type of unit all at once?

Yes there is....

Press and HOLD the ALT key when you hit the upgrade....

Is there a way to select multiple military units at once from different tiles? This always happens to me: I have a bunch of military units scattered around on auto-explore and all of the sudden barbarians come to attack me. I want to select all of my military units (preferably from the Military Advisor, but that doesn't seem to work) and move them all to the location of the attack.

Also, what makes matters worse is that at the beginning of my turn all of my units keep auto-exploring and use up one of their movement turns. I don't know of a way to tell everyone to "STOP!" and give me a chance to re-route them before letting everyone continue. Is there some setting that will stop units from automatically continuing their movement at the beginning of each turn? Otherwise the Control+A shortcut seems a little pointless doesn't it?

Thanks for any responses :)

keyboard shortcuts don't work for people who are disabled, because when civIV loads it disables "sticky-keys." So it's real hard to play the game when you can't use multiple key combinations
