II Historical scenarios and reviews directory (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3307170&postcount=2)
III Other scenarios and reviews directory (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3307171&postcount=3)
I How does it work ?
This thread is supposed to become the Civ4 ( or CIV) scenario directory.
I have given it some thought and set up such a directory for Civ3). I believe it can work out if scenario creators make a post in this thread for each scenario they make as I can't (don't want and won't) go through all of them. Then I can update the first posts to link to them. Besides, a problem of scenarios is that they can be quite big (art files including new units,...) and that people don't always know whether it is worth downloading or not. So I strongly encourage people who have played/tested a scenario to write a review.
To limit the cluttering, please only post when you have a real and working scenario.
For Scenario makers : post in this thread with, if possible, the following informations about your scenario.
- Scenario Title (in the post title)
- Type : Historical (ancient, medieval, XVI --> XIXth century, modern), fantasy, future, space, alternative.
- Dates and place, if applicable
- Map size and number of civs
- Download size
- MP version (yes/no)
- Synopsis/Description
- Special features (what you think is really cool about your scenario !)
- URL to the scenario thread
You can edit your post when new versions.
For reviewers , post in this thread with, if possible, the following informations about the scenario :
- review and scenario name in the post title
- version tested if applicable
- originality mark (out of ten, ten being the highest)
- playability mark (bugs, incomplete, replayability) (out of ten, ten being the highest)
- customization (rules) mark (out of ten, ten being the highest)
- customization (art) mark (out of ten, ten being the highest)
- accuracy mark (only for scenarios based on documented real (historical) or ficitional (ex Star Wars, LoTR,...) stuff (out of ten, ten being the highest) IMPORTANT
- comments
- Overall mark (this one is the total of the 4 (or 5) marks divided by 4 (or 5) to get the average.
Of course scenario-makers (& team) cannot review their own scenarii.
If you have made a set of scenario (same principle, era,...), please gather them in one post.
I won't bother linking to the post if you don't provide enough informations there.
Post anywhere you want in the thread as the posts will be linked to the three first posts anyway.
Scenarios will then be listed (from time to time, I won't be updating it every other minute so a bit of patience).

From 3300 BC to 100AC
Standard map size and 8 major civs
V1,2 25.3 KB in zip format
No MP version planed yet
Description: The scenario is placed in a portion of Ancient greece, to be exact it has the hole pelloponiso, attica, some part of thessaly, evoia island and 6 more smaller islands of the aegean. The 8 playable civs are 8 city states that some time through history of Greece play their part for greece to be as it is now, or they didnt :P The fact is that all the civs start in good locations, rivers, goodies etc and have the same chances to grow and dominate through combat or alliance. The other hint is that the 8 civs have a total of 40 cities and the barbarians 30 (for the time, minor civs added soon). It meant to be a quick game, or an epic game if you choose to go through diplomatic or curtural victory!
Special: (the most yet to come)
- special units for each civ
- events such as barbarians raids, persian attacks, slave or/and citizents uprises.
- change to the religion system and make it like "goverment type" system that each city-state stand for.
- Hard fights for survive becouse of many barbarian cities (many in ideal sites for cities!)
- Realistic terrain of greece territories (exept of mountain and some recources)

World 200 AD Scenario
We're writing the year 200 AD. While the Roman Emipre reached its top in territory growth (capturing Mesopotamia and Dacia), its tired and unmotivated (civil wars paralysed the empire every few years) forces are attacked in the north and east by homeless Germanic-, Sarmatian- and in the south by Persian/Arabian "Babarians" trying to pillage their way through the civilized provinces wealthy landscapes. They, themselves, are on the run - fleeing because of the pressure of asian riding hordes of the steppe empires (Chanats) in their backs, a horrible deathly wind, blowing from the far, far east. So the attack on rome's borders is the only hope the tribes of the northeast european regions will survive this bloody era of the "invasion of the babarians" and finally find a save place to settle down.
In the south-east, India and China -two large cultural blocks-, get the chance to stop their inner conflicts and unite their own countries buerocratic infastructures in peace, after many years of civil war and border conflicts. China nevertheless has yet to face the agressive increase of the nomadic riders of the north. To avoid this frightening threat, the great wall recently has been build.
Japan is rising in power as well, praying to the gods of the wind that a mongolic invasion fleet may never reach their islands
(In fact, in history such a fleet was send by Kublai Khan in the 13th century and it was destroyed by "the wind of the gods" - jap.:"Kamikaze").
Meanwhile in the west, 2 major american cultures, Maya and Nazca collide with each other (in North America there are also 7 minor tribes). Allthough in real history -around 200 AD- they havent been as strong as I made them in this scenario, they still are far behind the other civs, making playing the native american civs quite a challenge.
The black continent, however, is attached to the Bantu Empire.
Technically not very advanced yet, they are ready to control the deepest and wildest nature of inner africa for a long time on...
- Special features (what you think is really cool about your scenario !)
Features:
-Historically correct names of some units and of cities (tribes). Tried to relate the size of the armies to each other. Borders of the empires/groups of tribes pretty authentic.
-slightly modified world map (greenland now got 2 grasslands f.e.).
-some hidden gimmicks to make you laugh (won't tell you here, hehe).

Genghis_Kai Jan 14, 2006, 01:15 AM Title: World 2000BC - The first cities.
Type: Ancient
Civs: 5 Civs
Map: Huge
Size: 46 kB zipped
MP: OK, but the game is not balanced.
Intro:
The fertile river valleys of the Nile, Tigris, Eupharates, Indus, and Yellow River were able to support very large populations, and it was here that the great urban civilizations of the ancient world emerged. Although cities developed independently in several regions, they shared certain characteristics. Urban societies were hierarchical, with complex labour divisions. They were administered, economically and spiritually, by an elite literate class, and in some cases, were subject to a divine monarch. Monuments came to symbolize and represent the powers of the ruling elite. Elsewhere, farming communities came together to create ritual centres or burial sites, while craftsmen experimented with new materials and techniques, such as copper and bronze casting, and glazed pottery. All these developments indicate that urban and non-urban societies were attaining a high degree of social organization.
Game info:
There are 5 civilizations in this scenario.
Egyptian Kingdom (Egypt) - 3 cities
Harappa Kingdom (India) - 3 cities
Xia Dynasty (China) - 2 cities
Akkadian Dynasty (Sumer) - 5 cities
Minoan Kingdom (Greece) - 1 city
And many barbarian cities (Raging barbarians!).
Update log:
v1.2: Correct leader names. Change Mycenaean to Minoan for Greece making it only has one city left. Changed some barbarians to use correct local units, such as Jaguar for N. America, Quechua for S. America and Skirmisher for Africa. Changed colours for civilzations.
v1.1: Fixed some bugs and have made some game balance.

This scenario is based on a modified version of Rhye's world map (huge).

Babylonian rule in Mesopotamia was ended by the Persian in 539BC. Besides Babylonian, The Persian Empire annexed Medes, Lydians, Egyptians and the nomadic tribes in the central Asia. Darius, the ruler of Persian Empire, is now turning his attention to the Greece and Macedon. Can the Greek and Macedonian able to survive from the Persian invasion? or maybe even invade Persia? Roman republic was founded in 509BC. Can the newly founded republic able to stand under the threat of the Etruscan in the north and Greek in the south? In the east, the spring and autumn period has been started since 772BC. As one of the hegemons, your goal is to unify the 'civilized' states. Buddhism is spreading in the Kuru dynasties in India. Will Buddhism or Hinduism win the 'religious' war and becoming the dominating religion in the area or even in the world? Chavin and Olmecs still enjoy their isolation in America. However, more barbarians are becoming their 'neighbours' now. Regardless of which civilization you use, the strategy is to become the dominating power in the region and then the next step is to compete with other dominating powers in the rest of world!

- number of civs - there's about 8
- Download size - compressed zip, about 20kb
- MP version - yes
- Synopsis : more or less accurate map of the area, with major settlements as playable civs. many barbarians. Ideally, would use it in my intro to roman culture class, to illustrate the point that early Rome was in a very perilous situation for quite some time...
Calendar goes in seasons, should last roughly the period of the Monarchy (753BC -509BC).

DoctorG May 24, 2006, 08:18 AM - Type : Classical
- Dates and place: The Roman Empire, plunged into chaos and civil war with the death of Nero in AD68
- Map size and number of civs: map based on that in The Ancient Mediterranean Mod, with cities and units placed appropriately (more or less)
- MP version: Should be, if I did it right. Four player version, playing one of the 'Emperors' during this civil war - Otho, Galba, Vespasian, Vitellius
- Synopsis/Description
This is a scenario I am developing to use in my Introduction to Roman Culture class at my university. My intention is 1) for my students to have fun and 2) to understand and appreciate the dynamics of pacifying the empire. The game provides the students with a sense of the scale and difficulty of putting down the competition which you really can't get from books (or at least, many academic books).
In AD 68, Nero was finally compelled to commit suicide. Various aristocrats and generals bought the support of (or were nominated by) the troops in different regions. Otho, Galba, and Vitellius each ruled for a short while, managing to offend or alienate their bases of support while Vespasian bided his time in the east, eventually marching on Rome and putting down any resistance. Vespasian fixed the finances of Rome, sorted out the loyalties of the troops, and basically got everything back on track.
But this was not inevitable...
- Special features - lesson plan included, Senate (UN in disguise!), starting positions approximate areas of support

andeloke May 28, 2006, 11:53 AM Type : medieval: from 1618 to 1658 in Europe
based on the standard Europe map by Arne
Download size:4,6MB
MP version: unknown
Description: The year is 1618 and the Protestants of Germany have just rebelled against their Habsburgian rulers in Bohemia. Denmark and Sweden are coming to their aid, backed by England. The Spanish part of the Habsburgian Empire is struggling with Dutch and Portuguese separatists. France sees this as an opportunity to weaken the Habsburgians and goes to war. In the east, the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth, Russia and Sweden are all fighting for control of the Baltic. And none of them can overlook the Ottoman Empire in the South-East.
The game begins in 1618 and goes on until 1658, with 4 turns a year. Conquering the whole of Europe in this time is basically impossible, so getting the highest score before time runs out is (probably) the only way to win.
There are 18 playable civilizations, with various levels of difficulty. The Ottoman Empire, Spain, France, the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth, Russia, England and Sweden are all quite strong. But playing the Ottomans is not recommended as they start out as the biggest civilization and have great expansion possibilities, and therefore will be quite easy. For those who like more of a challenge Denmark, Prussia, Papal States, Venice, the Habsburgian Empire and Protestant Germany would be good choices. And for the experts it could be good fun trying to play as the Portuguese, Dutch, Scots, Swiss, Wallachians (although it might prove to be quite hard to win).
It should be fairly historically correct, but of course, happenings during the 30 Year’s War are all moved to the beginning of the game. And also the Ottoman Empire has been slightly reduced, simply due to the size of the empire.
I have also added some new technologies and units to this scenario
Special features: A good scenario for those who likes a fighting game. 13 of the 18 civillizations are in constant war with one or more civillizations.

Originality:10 (only ww1 scenario and greatest)
Playability mark: 9 some problems installing but very easily taken care of like where to put the scenario. the civs each require a tottally different approach as per there real situation during that time example:british must make advantage of their huge navy and limited but powerful army.
Customization:dont understand
Customization art: 8 the ww1 tank and biplane fit perfectly alongside the trench infantry but weird when germany has a tank army
Accuracy:9 the french firght most or the central most of the time and generraly dissolves into limited attack and defense the rebels are a nice touch butnot really acurrate in egypt. even the americans come into play in eastern france and help alot
overall mark: 9 easily the best scenario ever made

andeloke Nov 27, 2006, 06:33 AM Type : Fantasy. based on the "A song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin: A Clash of Kings
Download size:134 kb
MP version: unknown
Description:
This is a contant war scenario for all civ players found of fighting games. You do not have to know the books in order to play. But for all fans of George R.R. Martin this should be great fun.
The scenario is set in the beginning of the "Clash of Kings", where most of westeroos are at war with each other.
There are 11 playable civilizations. You can play as any of the 7 original Kingdoms, the Tullys, Stannis on Dragonstone, the Wildlings and even as the Others. The only minor civ is the nights watch, as it would seem unatural for the wall to conquer the world...
Allready from the start there are several battles to be fought. Stannis have surrounded Storms End, the Lannisters are set up against the Tullys and Starks in the riverlands and the Greyjoys have landed in the North.
There should be possible to win with all civs, but playing as the wildlings or the Others might prove difficult. And playing as the Starks or Highgarden might be the easiest.
There are several new units and technologies and all civs have a unique unit, such as Direwolfs for the Starks, wildlings for the Lannisters and Rainbow Guards for Renly. There are also 4 different levels of knights and two different levels of the longbowman, pikeman and trebuchet, in addition to plenty of different mele units.
This scenario requires Civilization Warlords.
I have also added some new technologies and loads of new units to this scenario
Special features: A good scenario for those who likes a fighting game. all of the civilizations are at contant war with 2 to 8 civilizations.

- Download size: 127 kb zip file/2.4 MB unzipped (but it uses the Medieval European Mod version .45 which is 23.15 MB +153.85 MB optional music bile)
- MP version: not tested for MP
- Synopsis/Description:
Northwest Europe from 480 - 1480 AD.
Civs included:
Kingdom of Denmark
Kingdom of Norway
Kingdom of the Frisians
Kingdom of France (West Franks)
Holy Roman Empire (East Franks)
Kingdom of Saxony
Grand Duchy of Normandy (Frankish Duchy)
Kingdom of Munster (Irish)
Kingdom of Connacht (Irish)
Kingdom of Scotland (Dal Riada)
Kingdom of Wessex (Wessex, Sussex, Essex, Kent)
Kingdom of Mercia (Mercia, East Anglia)
Kingdom of Northumbria
Kingdom of the Britons (Cornwall, Bretony - Dumnonia)
Kingdom of the Cymru (Powys, Welsh)
Kingdom of Strathclyde
Kingdom of Sweden
Jarldom of Hladir
- Special features:
Each civ starts with 3 cities, or two cities and a settler. The civs are far from on an even footing from the outset. There are many barbarian cities set to represent former Roman Towns. Some civs have ready access to these easily conquered towns. Additionally, some civs are in very crowded places on the map, while others have a lot of space to grow and develop. For an easy game, take one of the continental kingdoms like the Normans, France or Holy Roman Empire. Middle difficulty are the Viking civs, and Irish, which to win, need to attack and gain territory from either the big three, the British Isles, or each other. The real dog fight is on the crowded main island of Britain, where invading Saxons, Angles, Dal Riada and native British duke it out to achieve supremecy.
There are 3 religions in this scenario, Catholicism, Orthodoxy (representing Celtic Christianity in this scenario), and Paganism (a religion, not the default). Some civs begin, or can easily acquire a Holy City, and so have an at start benefit over the others.
This scenario uses the European Middle Ages Mod, and is current with version .65 of that mod. Each civ has unique units. The mod is continuing in developement, but is very playable as is.

Ambreville Mar 07, 2008, 11:43 AM - Scenario Title: Battle of Britain WWII Air Mod for BtS
- Type : WWII Europe
- Timeframe: July 1940 (to 1945)
- Area Covered: England, Germany, Northwestern France, Norway, Denmark
- Setup: Small map, two players (Britain vs. Germany)
- Size: About 12 Megs
- No MP yet
- Synopsis/Description: Battle of Britain, as the name implies, is about aerial warfare. This two-player game is an experiment (so don't expect everything to work 100% smoothly) to explore whether a game can be run with almost nothing but air units. Besides aircraft, there are very few land units (basically defensive AA, workers, GP's, execs, and spies). Sorry, no tanks, no infantry here. Ships are mostly there for "feel."
- Special features: The game is about paralyzing the enemy's industrial capability, most notably its ability to build aircraft. In this scenario, aircraft require specific factories. Messerschmitts require a BFW factory, Spitfires a Vickers factory, Lancasters an Avro factory, etc... If you can locate these factories and knock them out, you will dominate the game. Otherwise, you can also focus on refineries, flight schools, and map resources.
This scenario uses Dale's Combat Mod as its primary basis, which allows the bombing of civil or production buildings. You will need these missions to gang up on the enemy's factories. You can also bomb ships in ports and engage enemy fighters. If you can catch aircraft sitting in an airbase, you're likely to destroy most of them. Use spies to locate the best targets or blow them up too.

VetMichael Jun 01, 2009, 05:16 PM - version tested: Unknown, Perhaps 1.0
- originality mark: 7
- playability mark: 2
- customization (rules) mark: 7
- customization(art) mark: 2
- accuracy mark: N/A
- comments: Interesting concept and potentially a cool mod. The BIG drawback is that playing as Lord British is near impossible; British starts off with 200 gold and a -147 deficit on first turn, meaning research is essentially nil. British is defending cities with Warriors, Archers, Spearmen, Chariots, Horse Archers, Axemen, 1 caravel, triremes, galleys, and (customized) Swordsmen (Combat I promotion automatically) - other civs get Knights, Cho-Ku Nu, Trebuchets, (customized) Macemen, (customized) Viking Berzerkers, Customized Crossbowmen (with collateral damage on top of +50% v. Melee). All civs are at war with British, but not with each other. British does get Iolo, Sir Dupree, the Avatar, etc. but at STR 8 they are overmatched even with the massive General-level promotions they get and are quickly lost in most games. As an experienced CIV player, I tried all kinds of tactics, including buttoning down most cities and focusing on eliminating one player at a time, but with no seige engines (aside from 1 catapault in one island city) there is no way to take an enemy city without massive losses. Also, can not raze cities for a scorched-earth style of play, meaning cities taken must also be cities held. All in all, frustrating play of a potentially good idea.
- Overall mark: 4.5
