I've played a few games so far, but the most I've gotten is one city with abou 40k culture, the second is 30k and third is 10k...... HOW can you get all 3 cities to 50K culture? I'm really interested to try and have a cultural victory. Thanks!

Spread your wonders evenly between the three cities. Build the Hermitage in one. Try and get as many of the cathedral type buildings as possible since they give +50% culture rather than a fixed amount. If you can get two of these in each you've effectively doubled the culture rate. One of the civics gives you double culture in all your cities (possibly just with state religion) but I can't remember which. Great artists will add several thousand culture and so can also be a help.

Build buildings that increase culture, increase your culture slider, and spread at least 3 religions around so you can build at least 1 cathedral in each of your big culture cities. You can also try and concentrate your GP points on artists. My current game has 2 cities over 100k culture and one at around 40k and I only have my culture slider at 20%.

seems one legendary city needs 75k culture,it's a not so easy to do so ,perhaps you can change citizen to artist not only raise your culture but also produce some great artist to spread your culture(6k in epic and 4k in normal)

Once you decide to "go" for the cultural win, maximize your commerce in your cities. Set production to culture, change specialists to generate as many great artists as you can, then use the culture slider to 100%. Use the rest of your cities to generate wealth through trade routes or just with production to keep yourself in the green or at a slow red leak. And use great artists for the 4000+ culture in your city that trails the other two.

The key is loads of religion in your cities, I spread 5 religion in all my cities, both AI religion and my religion. Adopt caste system, boom culture shoots up with 5 cathedrals. I current have 5 city average more than 500 culture per turn with 20% culture rate and they are producing mordern tanks, not turned into culture production.

You will almost certainly need to use the culture slider to obtain a cultural victory. I managed to get a cultural victory on noble in 1953, switching to the cultural slider in ~1850 , if I had waited to reach 75k without the slider the AI would have long since built its spaceship.

It's not as hard as you would think. I just pulled off my first cultural victory and my 3rd city wasn't founded until 640 AD.

Religions are important. You'll want all 7 religions in at least 6 cities (the 3 50k cities + any 3 others) and a temple in each. This will give each city +350% culture from the various cathedrals. You'll want to found as many of those religions yourself as possible so that hopefully your 3 cities will become holy cities and you can found the holy shrines there as well (+4 culture, plus potentially a good deal of extra commerce.)

Civics also have a lot to offer. With Free speech, you'll get +100% culture in every city. Free religion will net you +1 culture for every religion (+7 for all of them.) Universal Suffrage, for example, will allow you to cash rush cultural improvements to your cities and slavery allows pop rushing (though the latter should be used sparingly.) Other forms of government can also have a very powerful, if indirect, effect, such as increased gpt, which can mean a higher setting on the culture slider.

Great artists also provide a huge cultural benefit. This can take the form of either a 1-time 4000-culture boost, or a 12-cpt specialist. While the first option (the culture bomb  ) is a lot of fun, the second is probably the most powerful. With a +400% bonus to culture, that translates to 60-cpt.

The key is loads of religion in your cities

That helps, but isn't absolutely essential. I just finished a 1914 AD cultural win on Emporer (my second at that difficulty level) and I was handicapped by only having 1 religion. Despite not having as many cathedral structures, I still managed to get enough culture from commerce and great artists to overcome this handicap.

Don't get me wrong - more religions makes it far, far easier. But it can be done without, if you get the cottages going early enough and pick good city sights.

Hi,

HOW can you get all 3 cities to 50K culture? I'm really interested to try and have a cultural victory. Thanks!

There's a very nice guide by walkerjks about that topic right here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=138647)in this very forum.

You can also read a report about how I managed to get three cities to 50k culture on Monarch here (http://www.compoundeye.net/civ/legendarythree/) on my site.

I think the most importend thing is: You have to go there from the beginning of the game. Cultural victory isn't a victory option like space race or diplo win, where you can say somewhere ~1400 AD: Oh well, i doubt i can go for a military conquest, my enemies are to strong... lets try the cultural victory.
To achive a cultural victory you have to plan ahead from the start and work the whole game toward it. The other posters already mentioned what to do, but its importent to focus on it from 4000 bc.

Thanks everybody for your advice. Looks like I've been missing out on building the catherdals: I didn't know about +50% culture, that seems like a very powerful tool.

I have one question though, If I am not able to found many religions, how can I get the AI to send his missionaries to my cities to spread his religion? The only thing I can do is wait for the religion to spread to my cities randomly (through the trade routes) and from there build missionaries to spread to my own cities.

Well, there is still the option to capture a city with a other relgion, build a monastary (do it before scientific method arrives) and spread it into your empire. Through thats not the way to make many friends, it may be helpfull ;).

I managed it with only 4 religions (and the 4th was only just... spread to one of my non-50K cities, and I started building the monastery 1 turn before Scientific Method came in, boy was I glad the build didn't get cancelled).

I was also researching at a very respectable rate for 0% sci and 100% culture.

Two of my 50K cities were captured from the AI (one very early - before 1000BC), the other a bit later but it got culture-bombed soon after capture. The other was my capital.

Wonders aren't essential! Two of my cities had 'em, but the third only had Versailles in it.

All at Noble, btw, and as Genghis Khan, in a game where I just decided to go cultural because I'd not done it before.

The 3 cities were at 650cpt+ at the end. I also had a 4th over 10K due to the 100% slider.
