Bretagne V1.05 (http://www.filegone.com/2j0w)
Vadus Nov 15, 2005, 05:59 PM ah, nice! I still need a leader for the bretons :)
Jecrell Nov 16, 2005, 01:05 PM It took me just a little bit of time to figure out that Bretagne was referring to the British (maybe even Great Britain?). Now, I have a fairly poor understanding on what exactly this refers to in particular since I have very little knowledge of the origins of England, so, forgive me if I don't entirely understand what "Bretagne" exactly refers to.
Okay nevermind... I Wikipedia-ed Bretagne. Sorry about that.
I'd just like to say that I absolutely love the idea of having a Knight of the Round Table as a UU -- except the only problem is that they were individuals and not actual armies. But the thing is -- there is no better word for Knight than Knight. So perhaps you might find it best to refer to the various chivilry orders -- such as Knight of Garter or some such. Although, if given a choice between that and Knight of the Round, I'd choose the latter. :)
Also you can take any <TEXT> </TEXT> tag and put it into your custom Text.xml file -- and the game will call it up fine. I'm surprised they didn't allow it with other XML files (such as Civs and leaderheads), but at least we can compile our text references into a single file for the sake of simplicity.

Actually bretagne is a French province nowadays.
Jecrell Nov 16, 2005, 01:12 PM Actually bretagne is a French province nowadays.
My bad really -- I just read the word Brittany and think "British." It sunk a little deeper into my logic when I read the Knight of the Round Table as the UU.
LAnkou Nov 16, 2005, 01:38 PM i was thinking about a finding a chivaliry order, even if the round table is fun, it's coming from a myth, that's why it doesn't have a proper civilopedia description yet. but i have trouble finding one very specific (maybe the order of the Hermine). I like the idea Knight getting bonus over other knight...
next version will see leaderheads, proper civilopedia, and maybe a chivalry order instead of the UU

Same thing crossed my mind too. Some files have quite a bit of text inside...
PS. Asterix and Obelix as UU (only one allowed)! ;)
Cheers,
Uluk
Tremo Nov 16, 2005, 02:00 PM PS. Asterix and Obelix as UU (only one allowed)! ;)

Missrevolver Dec 30, 2005, 12:26 AM Since people are speaking of French regions, a French region mod would be interesting. If anyone would be interested in this, I'd be glad to help in anway I could. But as for Bretagne, this civ looks great! Keep up the good work!

MRick Jan 04, 2006, 08:01 AM Nice !!!
I'm Briton Myself, so I will try this mod as soon as possible.
For Jecrell, and all those that don't know much about Brittany's history, I'll tell you that :
First some definitions :
Bretagne, is a French word for Brittany.
In English, it's habitants are called Britons, and in French we're called Bretons.
We are on an English speaking forum, so I will use the English words.
The (Old) Britons were the people who lived in Great Britain before the Anglo-Saxons. They were first conquered by Cesar the Roman.
In Legends, our ancestors had a Great King, the very famous Arthur who vainquished the Anglo-Saxons.
In real history, the Britons were defeated by the Anglo-Saxons, and pushed to the west of Great Britain. The Anglo-Saxons therefore created England, chasing away the Britons, it happened gradually during the 5th and 6th Century.
Wales and Cornwall became overpopulated, so many Britons migrated to the continent peninsula called Armorica by the romans.
The Welsh, and the Cornish did not kept the name of "Britons", but in fact those people have the same ancestors as the "modern" (Continental) Britons.
The "modern" Britons arise as an independent nation, during the 9th an 10th Century, especially under the rule of King Nominoë, and his son Erispoë (around 850AD).
Brittany standed independant as a great Duchy until 1532AD, short after the death of Anne de Bretagne, the last great duchess of Brittany. She was forced to mary two French Kings, Charles VIII and Louis XII, but managed to keep Brittany independant.
Since 1532AD, Brittany is part of France, but kept many of its own specificities :
Our language is endangered, but still alive.
We have a different culture as the rest of France.
And thanks to Anne de Bretagne we have free motorways ! ;)
Concerning the mod, I would have seen better Nominoë, in place of Du Guesclin, but anyway, thanks for the mod.
GeneralMatt Jan 04, 2006, 10:17 AM I had a problem, I DL the files I asked for, then they just dissapeared of the computer! Gone! Poof!
Would you consider Emailing them to me, or just Anne Preferably...
LAnkou Jan 05, 2006, 05:44 AM ok...i will try to manage something...
MRick Jan 06, 2006, 04:11 AM I cannot use it either...
The rar File seems to contain nothing !
When I unzip it I get no file...
I don't have WinRAR, I only have PowerArchiver... Maybe that's it.
LAnkou Jan 06, 2006, 12:51 PM i think you need winrar (it's a freeware, download it!!)
here is the changed .dds files for Anne:
http://www.filegone.com/4hci
copy isabella art folder in your mod (or in custom assets) and put the new files in this one...
GeneralMatt Jan 07, 2006, 01:25 PM Thank you very much.
MRick Jan 10, 2006, 06:24 AM OK it works with WinRar now...
I don't understand because PowerArchiver managed the other .RAR files very well until yours.
By the way, what's the change with Anne ?
I don't know if you've seen this picture before :
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/25/Statue_of_Anne_of_Britanny_near_castle_in_Nantes_F rance.jpg/400px-Statue_of_Anne_of_Britanny_near_castle_in_Nantes_F rance.jpg
That's a statue of her in my home city of Nantes. It is taken from this article :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_of_Brittany
This one is much more detailed, but in French :
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_de_Bretagne
LAnkou Jan 10, 2006, 08:58 AM what do you mean "what's the change with Anne"?
well, Anne is "now" an animated leaderhead (since V1.02 or 03, i think i can tell one of the best modded one) whereas she wasn't before...
LAnkou Jan 17, 2006, 10:11 AM Version 1.05 out
Compatibility with patch 1.52 plus third leader Nominoë and better text entries
Azatoth Apr 06, 2006, 10:55 AM This Brittany mod is a great idea. Good job :goodjob: I'm gonna try it in my next Civ game (that is to say soon ;))
Even if I've been living in Provence since a couple of years, my family comes from Britanny (St-Brieuc and Brest), and I grew up in a strong Briton culture (well like in any Briton family I guess )
May I make a suggestion for UU : why not playing the "Bonnets rouges", the people who revolted in 1675 against the French government after new taxes were implemented ?
This unit could replace pikemen, and have a bonus for city defenses (in reference to the time it took to Duke de Chaulnes to get them away from Rennes), or could be cheaper (this army was raised very easily as many peasants volunteered to take part in the revolt). And historically speaking, it's a nice homage to all these people whose fight was the first basis of what became the French Revolution.
By the way, the idea of a mod with all different french cultures would be really big fun :) I already saw Euskadi and Ch'ti in the list ...
If you need help in improving the Brittany mod or the french regions mod, maybe I can help (I'm training in unit modification and reskinning right now).
Yec'hed Mat !
cthom Apr 06, 2006, 01:13 PM if anyone think of a better UU name, i will be glad to hear your comments
how about 'heavy cavalry'?
i'll add the new leaderhead(s) too.
