Good idea L'Ankou. It'll be nice when Firaxis or someone in the community comes up with a program to take these individual mods and combine them into a larger mod. From experience, it's a PITA. :D

I've been trying to congregate some thoughts on a compilation project from various Civ makers out there. So far we have interest -- but we need to complete our various projects before we actually put them together.

As far as my Carthage Mod is concerned -- it is in a state where it is considered complete; however, I will be adding a few more things to it before I declare it a finished product. Such as a second leader (Dido?), additional customized dialog, and some real documentation for people who wish to use the module in scenarios or to combine my module with other modules.

This thread should be stickied. :)

I'd say Hamilcar... Dido is a little bit too mythical in my opinion...

Nov 16, 2005, 09:58 AM
As i said previously, i would be glad for the compilation...
the great thing would be to have every files modded like the one you've done for the text in carthage: an added file instead of modifying one, it would be so much simpler...

add Texas in first post

Perhaps, since there are so many of these mods, the administrators would consider adding a subforum?

Maybe in the effort to keep it simple you could do regional mini CivPaks? Group together new Civs in smallish (2-5) paks.

For my personal use I have the Celts, The Netherlands, Carthage, and the Turks grouped in a custom mod. It wasn't too hard once I got the hang of what files needed manipulation and what ones didn't. Hopefully someone will come up with a program or utility to add them together simpler.

I hope this reply is not too much off-topic. However what I like is to combine several mods (including this one ... since I'm dutch I like to play with them too) but I also want to incorporate other mods.

However I see in the discussions there are two 'types'... real mods and sort of 'overriding' files. So I have a few questions:
- Can only 1 mod be used at the same time? (i.e. can I select multiple mods to use?)
- Can I combine (with possibly having to merge code) several mods together into one new one?
- Can I combine mods with overriding files and play with it?
- Has someone experience with combining files?

Tactician Zhao

- Can only 1 mod be used at the same time? (i.e. can I select multiple mods to use?)

not without combing them, as far as I can tell.. 1 mod at a time if they are seperate

- Can I combine (with possibly having to merge code) several mods together into one new one?

yes, that is completely possible

- Can I combine mods with overriding files and play with it?

yes, I can also verify this, at least with the ones I have looked at

- Has someone experience with combining files?

I have combined several of mine

Michel Keijzers

Thanks for all the answers Tactician Zhao.

Since there are so many interesting mods it would be interesting to have a sort of merge tool. The most problematic is probably the event file ... some are using a derived class and some are using a changed original version. Howver some derived classes call some base class code and some not ... not sure what the difference is and if it affects combining problems.

However before I want to spend time on combining them, I would like to check if there is a simpler way ... it would be not nice if every time on of the mods changed the complete merge procedure needs to be redone ... unless it is automated in some way.

(I'm a software engineer and I know there are versioning tools able to merge code ... seems appropriate to use such software but in a simpler way).

people can tell me if i should put them in the main list but i prefer giving some chance to other people. Civarmy is really well present in the main list. On the other hand, the copys are separated, they can be seen easier!!! ;-)

.... or someone in the community comes up with a program to take these individual mods and combine them into a larger mod. From experience, it's a PITA. :D

First of all, I'm the author of the Scotland mod listed above. Thanks LAnkou for the effort in this thread.

Well, now that I've learned what needs to be hacked where in the xml files I'm ready to take on this project.

What I'm thinking of is this: Make a program that has All these civs as well as all the 'stock' civs in it. From a simple menu the user could check all some or none of the civs he/she* wanted in that particular situation. He would then click a button and the program would build the Custom Assets folder in a matter of seconds.

It would also have a function to create a new Civ from scratch by simply entering the info into a form. (Enter cvis name here, adjective here, etc.)
It would also have a unit builder to make/alter custom units.

it would NOT have a way to make new art, but you could import your own art into it.

It would be easiest for me, belive it or not, to make this thing in ACCESS. Problem is, I realize not many people have MS Access.

Choice #2 would be to do the whole damned thing in Excel. That's right Excel, BUT it would be a bit limited in some aspects...

Choice #3 would be to us Visual Basic 6.0 to make a stand alone .exe program. This is choice #3 because I'm a little rusty at stand alone VB.

any thoughts?

Hi! Great and useful work.
A suggestion: why don't you please include Armenians -
one of the most ancient nations of the world, which was the first to adopt Christianity as its official religion and still exist, as you might know.
Armenia has a remarkable, great culture, history, units, leaders and people, and is an open-air museum at the present.
By the way, many cities of other civilizations from CIV3 are indeed armenian cities.
Please contact me for cities, leaders, units, sounds, etc. I would be grateful. Thanks a lot!

don't hesitate to post your comments and links of your new civ, i will try to get this thread updated
if you desire a particular civ to be include first in Superciv, tell it in the Superciv Thread (link above)
if modo's could sticky this, it would be nice too

Enjoy!!

Hello all, I am new to the forums....I love civ4 but am having problems installing the superciv mod..I have not tried any others yet..I downloaded ver 1.00 and 1.03..they were placed in the mod folder and extracted...When I start a new game it says that ver 1.03 is loading and everything appears ok but when I get the menus there is no modifications and only the original game...I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong...I apologize in advance for posting this question...just don't know where else to go...

Try placing it in the "My Documents\myGames\Civ4\CustomAssets" Folder. Then it should just run automatically.

PLease note the path I list above is not exact, but you get the idea: Find the Civ4 folder within your mygames folder under my documents...

LAnkou
Nov 29, 2005, 10:02 AM
well, the good way to get it working properly is:
0) save both rar files in the mod folder
1) extract V1.00 in the mod folder
2) extract V1.03 in the mod folder (accept all for replacement)
(normally, you don't need to choose a path)
then you should have a unique Superciv folder
in this folder, there is the assets folder

so the path to assets is:
C:/program files/firaxis games/civilization4/mods/superciv/assets

if you don't have this path, it won't work

I thought that perhaps Normandy might be a good idea for a new civ - I'm not up to creating any civs myslef since i am a newbie to the game.:)
The leader would be William Duke of Normandy(William the conqueror) :king: since he conquered England. He would be Expansive and Organised.

Also an idea could be a 1066-Battle for Britain scenario featuring:
NORMANS - William Duke of normandy
SAXONS - Harold Godwin
VIKINGS - Harald Hardraada

False. There were a few "peoples" that were the "first" to adopt Christianity (Illyrians are included in this as mentioned in the Bible). Perhaps Armenians are amongst this group , with the Jews , but you cannot claim they were "the first."

I would like to see an Armenian civ...

add Australia "main civs" and Derby County FC mod "other civs"
add civarmy next level mod (packs)

BTW:
it doesn't matter for me if there are some requests on this thread (why not? if it can help people...), but i prefer not having discussion like "this should be in a mod" or "this one should be in cause blablabla..." and having off topic discussions. If people want to discuss about the history of a civ, go to the history forum...

I would really appreaciate if people prevent themselves from discussing the point above...

Thank you all!! continue to make wonderfull civs!!!

If you'd forgive another noob (noob sounds stupid but I guess I have no choice about it), I downloaded a XML editor and it runs however, it has no choices from Civ IV, ie: if I were making a new civ and I was deciding their intial techs, there's no list of available ones for me to add subtract. As well as this every time I change something I get the message about JIT debugging. I know my descriptions patchy but if I've missed something obvious please help

Another question...

The game will only let me use one of the Mod Civs at a time. I can have, say, Portugal OR Brazil in the game, but not both. Is there any way I can have more than one at a time in? I want a game in which I can play against the Canadians, Caribs, Polynesians, Brazilians, etc all at once.

Edit: Nevermind, I downloaded Civarmy's mod with all his Civs in it.

A suggestion: Could a remake of the confederacy be in your next mod pack? The CSA one that's already been made is good, but I can only use it by itself and not with all the other cool stuff you make.

Would anyone be willing to do one on the Byzantine Empire. They were the Eastern half of the Roman empire and stood from 313-1453. They were part of the updated part of Civ 3.

Their rulers could include Theodora (she was the one in Civ III) and Alexius I (who called for the 1st Crusade). In the other game, their specialized force was a galley, but they were best known for Greek Fire. Thanks.

Great! now if we could just get the other things orginized (leaderheads, units, etc) into proper pages like this will save much time and frustration.

Personally I'd like to see a standard developed here for commenting xml code- and a xml file structure (for example: all your *_Startegy goes into a strategy xml, all your Unit_Pedia goes into a Unit_Pedia xml).

Easiest code I found so far is Amra's, thank you for taking the time to organize your files!:king:

Something else, why hasn't the powers that be here created an official CivFanatics Mod yet? just curious.

Ancient Leader: Suleiman the Great --religious; expansive

Capital: Istanbul (not Constantinople).

Has anyone made a Mexico Civ yet? I think it would be great to have Santa Anna for the leader of Mexico, especially since he and Sam Houston were rivals.

It would also be good to have a Cuba Civ, but not Castro as the leader. Maybe have Tomás Estrada Palma, the 1st President of Cuba who was backed by the 1st Roosevelt Admistration.

There is a Mexico civ contained within a mod..."Second Revolution"? Something close to that.

As for Cuba, that would be neat, but you'd really have to include Castro. Why wouldn't you?

Okay. This thread seems to be going off course a little. I've had a go at porting it to the wiki here (http://www.civ4wiki.com/wiki/index.php/Civ_Index), where it's organised by continent and alphabetically, but it's not anywhere near finished. If you could help out and post any new (or old) civs which aren't there already into the right section, with a link to the thread, that would be great. ;)
