*Update 26. january 2007*

Final WARLORDS-Version is online now, thi should be fully compatible with an language version of Civ4. (The old map version for 1.61 is also still aviable. This was my very first Civ4-Mod... kind of.) Its a pure 84 x 52 Europe map with preplaced starting positions.

Install: Download to Public Maps, start as Scenario

Version for 1.61

Alexander - Greek Empire
Caesar - Rome
Elisabeth - England
Frederik - Germany
Isabella - Spain
Catharina - Russia
Louis - France

NEW (01/2007): Final Version for WARLORDS "ArnesEuropa84x52_WLv2_5"

(red lines in screenshots = added rivers
blue lines in screenshot = new coastline
red circles in Screenshot = new ressources)

What is different compared to the older WL-Version?

Full compatible with any language version. There are a lot more rivers placed and more ressources esp. near some starting positions. Some more Terrain changes are done. The map is now more balanced again, told the testers. Elisabeth replaces Churchill again.

Alexander - Greece
Augustus - Rome
Elizabeth - England
Bismarck - Germany
Isabella - Spain
Stalin - Russia
Louis - France
Brennus - Celtic
Ragnar - Vikings
Hanibal - Carthage
Mehmet - Osman

Like every map, with preplaced SPs, threre is only one leader per civ, even if normaly threre would be two to coose from (Germany, for example, use Friedrich now in 1.61 version, but there is actually no chance getting Bismarck for leading Germany without modding him into the WBS file by yourself or using Warlords version of this map).

Great. I knew it was only a matter of time before a good map of Europe would be done for Napoleonic times. I was thinking or modding George Washington's Americans as the Austrians. I know someone is already working on a Turkish mod. Throw in Catherine, Fredrick, Napoleon, Isabella and Elizabeth and you got yourself a game!

Thank you for the laud. :)

There will be a new version within a few days, that version will be (hopefully) a little more balanced then this. It will include more food for Isabella, Caesar, Alexander and Russia. It will include some more rivers manily in Russia, but also in Greece, Italy and Minor Asia. Catharina will be replaced by Peter. :( This is, since Peter is not financial and there is actually only very low use of Catharinas financial threat becouse of the russian terrain types.

Oh, and (hopefully) there will be a Version with english leadernames too. Sadly there seems to be no way, making SPs fixed without naming leaders, so I have to do different versions, as soon as a more developed version is available.

Very nice map but could u please fix the time victory that ends the game way to early playing a epic game.

Arne
Nov 17, 2005, 10:12 AM
Drogear, I not sure, if I could fix that. I'm still looking for a easy method, making a map (= only WBS file) with fixed starting locations but without any further locked things.

Oh, version 2 is out now.

This is a great map Arne, vielen Dank. As for German names, I just changed the German names to English names in the WBS file and it worked fine for me.

Mind if I use your map for my Euro-mod? I plan on adding Sweden, Austria-Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Soviet Union, removing the ancient civs, etc...

Thanks again.

Arne: I dont know how to fix it but i know that lewhak fixed it on his huge europe map.

Drogear, thank you, looks like an good advice.

Sure, feel free to mod in or out whatever you like/not like. Only one thing: It would be nice, if you would name me as draughtsman(?) of the map. :)

As for German names, I just changed the German names to English names in the WBS file and it worked fine for me. Yes, it is easy modding: You just have to rename Civs and leaders in WBS file. But one HAS to do it, if he want playing with Englisch names and leaders. :(

I replaced version_2 with version_2a now. What is different? Well, version_2a has set no victory options, so I think "the time victory that ends the game way to early playing a epic game" is fixed now. (Thanks to Drogear for reporting it). Then there are some small terrain changings and goody huts now are preplaced on map.

Arne, I found that there's a line setting max turns in the text file. I set it to 0 in my map, but honestly I've yet to finish an epic game (they can be kinda long and I've had thanksgiving holidays to deal with) since I did that but I did get past the early ending that I previously experienced but don't know if it makes the game end normally on time victory. Nice map btw.

Honestly, as bad as it sounds, I think that's normal. I wrote a content management system and had it on my website for a long time. I think I got to a couple thousand downloads with 0 comments. None, good or bad.

I think you made an awesome map here. It looks very accurate with the terrain and coast.

I would like to put some extra Euro civs on the map (with some added civilizations others have made). That would be cool.

Arne

Thank you for the comments. :)

Arne, I found that there's a line setting max turns in the text file. Are you sure there is? I think in version_2a there is no longer such a line. The WBSfile version_2a should start with:

BeginGame
Era=NONE
Speed=NONE
Calendar=CALENDAR_DEFAULT
GameTurn=0
MaxCityElimination=0
TargetScore=0
StartYear=-4000
EndGame

Is there another section with MaxTurns= ?

@MeteorPunch: I think, there will be a version with one other Civ within some days, but this is more for balance reasons then for making more civs playable on that map.

Is the epic game time bug fixed in the last version of this map? This is one of my favorite maps to play but its very annoying to end the game so early, hate the victory text that does not remove from the screen...

Played the map over the weekend as England. I liked the fact that the British Isles lacked some resources. France seems to be missing some variety of terrain.

All in all a good map and fun to play.

Playing this map right now - great work! (I modified it slightly, by adding Arabs in Africa, Mongols in Crimea and a bunch of bar cities in historical locations of "minor civ" big cities, such as Amsterdam, Dublin and Venice). :)

Just open the map file with the wordpad editor and delete the lines that refer to the number of turns and game speed (they are near the beginning of the file). :)

This is one of the first great maps for civ4 and the one that I still play! Its mad fun to for its speed and together with mod like sevos 2.3 it’s really great.

But its sad that Arne apparently doesn’t do more work on civ4 modding? What happend to you Arne?

Great map, Arne. I give it a try.

this is a very very old map, glad I dumped it up in the forums so more players can play this great map.

I remember Arne to be a very competent modder in civ3 (or waas is civ2, the times seems to fly away)

Thank you for the compliments; well, actually I'm working again on a ambitious project with a very small team of german modders. We are trying to transfer my old Civ3-SPQR-mod into a mod for Civ4, but the relase date is still far away.

Glad you like this map, some big mods here and in our german forum are based on it, for example the European Empires Mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=144971). Feel free to try it out, if you didn't for now.

Plaed e few games on the map. Like it alot but some areas that seems ideal for a cityplacement alredy resoruces upon it. Much better having the resoruce next to the city imo.

One example is the position that spain start at, right on a spice resource. Ok its easy to move the settler but its still bugging me... :) Same goes for ex the spot at the coast of spain, west of spain capital that forces me to settle on a wine to be able to benefit from the fish source.

One example is the position that spain start at, right on a spice resource. This shouldn't be the case any longer with that new viersion. :confused:

Oh, I see. The link here on page #1 referred to the old download (thatone is still available). It is fixed now. Sorry for inconveniences and a Big Thankyou, I didn't notice that until now. :blush:

Arne could you make your map compatible with Blake Better AI map.
Your map is wonderful but not taking advantage of Blake's improvement to the AI is a great miss for its enjoyment

Arne
Jan 05, 2007, 01:59 PM
Err... I'm not sure, what you mean, what is not compatible? This is only a map, without any changings beside the Leadernames and Starting positions. If you use Blakes CvGameCoreDLL.dll, it should normaly run fine. :blush:

This map would be even better if someone could add new civs, poland or any other civ seems needed to fill up space in between Germany and Russia.
Netherlands would be nice to taking some space from France or Germany.

Arne
Jan 25, 2007, 02:53 AM
Drogear you may be right, but I think this is no need to do since the map should be balanced in most aspects just like it is now.

However, for older versions of this map there are many scenarios and variations based on this map (Map with 11 Civs, EuropaEuropaMod, some more). AFAIK, this is not true for the last Warlord version. Well, if someone wanted to do... feel free to do so. May be - one day - I will do such thing myself.

There is a small update out now. The (final) version 2.5 of this map now is full compatible with any language versions. Please look at page #1 for info and download link.

I loved this map, but I have a guilty admission. I entered the WorldBuilder during play and dumped a bunch of barbarian horse archers in the Russian area at about the time they had three cities. This had the effect of stunting their growth for a long time as they had to win back Moscow from the barbs. It was just my way of balancing it.

Even if it isn't realistic, a good way to balance the map is to put more resources in the west.

Excellent map though. I had a blast. I even played as the Germans, and ended up having a massive Stalingrad-like battle with the Russians. I had better units and a stronger economy, but the Russians sent hundreds at me! I just barely held them off without losing a city. That may not sound like much, but I had dumped my entire air force in that city as well as all of my artillery as a forward base (with maybe 15 strong defenders, and 15 crappy defenders). I hadn't expected such a strong Russian push. If I had lost this city, I would have lost my entire (very powerful) bomber force, and much of my fighter force. I mean, I only had one damaged mech infantry, and maybe 4 really damaged artillery pieces left.

Thank you very much for making the map. You provided me with a good 13 hours of fun.:goodjob: Although you also indirectly contributed to me doing a really crappy job on my schoolwork. :lol:

Well, maybe... for improved prod/growth this may help for some players. But the testers were pretty happy with this version like it is. So I'm not sure if...

This might be fair. In hindsight, I spent a good deal of the game trying to capture back an important city that barbs took (due to my incredible carelessness). If I wasn't so stupid to late them take it in the first place, I probably could have expanded faster and checked a more powerful Russia.

EDIT: Also, I hope you don't think I am being too critical, because I didn't mean to be. Seriously, your two Europe maps are easily the best maps I have ever played, on any civ game.
