Hey Civ Fanatics,

First of all, greetings to everyone. I've been lurking on these forums for some time, and I've found some great reading in here. I thought I'd join up and contribute my own tale, as I take on Emperor difficulty for the first time.

My previous experience extends as far as Monarch difficulty. I'm not used to the relatively excessive micromanagement required at the higher difficulty levels, so this will take some adjustment. I'm going on what I've read (both at the War Academy and in these forums), and plain intuition ;) Who knows what triumphs/blunders await?

The game settings are as follows:

My Civ: Iroquois
Size: Standard
Land Mass: Continents w/70% water
Barbarians: None (since goodie huts are no longer of much use to me)
Climate, Temperature, Age: Random
AI Aggression: Maximum
Rules: Default, with the exception of cultural victory which is disabled
Opponents: 7 (I chose them myself, but didn't take note and cannot remember them all. Will edit later!)

Quick as a flash, a planet appeared in an otherwise boring void. A settler and a worker found themselves standing in the middle of an expansive landscape. The settler felt an overwhelming urge to settle, and the worker had a strange inclination to 'improve' the terrain. However, the settler felt that the coastline would make a nicer site for a city, and moved west accordingly. Satisfied, he got things rolling. Thus in 3950 BC, Salamanca was born!

(Intriguingly, seven other settler/worker pairs appeared around the virgin planet simultaneously to ours. One can only presume that they're all evil, against us, and can for some reason build at a remarkable rate. However, they find themselves in the shallow end of the gene pool when it comes to brain power. Can inexperienced human prowess overcome these productive yet slightly unclever opponents? Time will tell.)

Years rolled by. The planet hurtled through space in orbit of a sun, unbeknownst to all (almost all inhabitants felt that the world was flat. What with this appearing to be a 2-dimensional world, who could blame them?) It appeared that the intrepid Iroquois were alone on an island of their own. This suited them fine for the sake of building up uninterrupted, yet they had a nagging feeling that being unable to trade technologies might hurt them in a few hundred years. Demonstrating immense foresight, they committed a curragh to the waters, manned by the bravest men the Iroquois civilization had to offer. In another show of surprising wisdom, they decided that venturing too far from the coastline would mean the end of their otherwise advanced naval vessel.

Mysteriously, the same curragh managed to keep sailing for hundreds of years, scanning foreign coasts for signs of life. Ultimately, the generations of sailors who had travelled on this surprisingly sturdy vessel were rewarded, as a city came into sight in the distance. They were welcomed, but eyed with a sort of cold suspicion. Indeed, the leader of this society wore a menacing grimace! The most intelligent Iroquois among the explorers concluded that this fellow was 'Annoyed'.

No matter though. They brought word of such obscure wonders as 'Pottery' and 'Writing'. The Koreans scratched their heads, utterly mystified at the fact that they hadn't thought of sticking things in pots before. Eager to save some face, they offered up their own technological marvels - 'Warrior Code' and 'Bronze Working'. Apparently the Koreans had used this 'bronze' material to build fine bidets. More than one Iroquois thought to himself that such a material would be better suited to constructing spears, but he kept quiet for fear of offending the Korean leader. Relations with these people rested solely upon the shoulders of these brave Iroquois, and they soon left with their bounty, eager to return home and tell all about these fascinating people who for some reason spoke perfect Iroquoisese...
