With a lot of discussion going on recently I decided to try a Civ4 AW game. So far I have enjoyed small maps more in Civ 4, due to the limitation of expansion...it just feels more playable.

I wanted an Industrial civ because the Pyramids are such a huge wonder for military campaigns. Switch to Police State early and never leave it.

Start this is the first start that came up and I went with it. I'm on a hill, so I'll be safe if it gets rough.

4000 First research is Hunting -> Archery.

3600 Archery discovered. Warrior built.

3400 Mysticism discovered. I was planning to take a risk go to Buddhism next to secure an early Religion, but surprisingly someone else founded it on this turn. I go for Hinduism instead.

3200 Archer is built. Start on a worker. 3 turns to Polytheism...

3080 Shocking! :D

2760 After Paris' borders expand I get greeted by Caesar and Kublai Khan. What a bad set of neighbors to start with! :crazyeye:

2760 Worker is built, start on barracks. Animal Husbandry discovered. Start on Mining, heading for Bronze working.

2480 Barracks finish, a couple archers next.

2440 The cow is connected.

2360 I have sent the archer ahead to protect the horses prior to connecting them (gotta build up those defense points).

2240 Bronze Working is discovered, but there is no Bronze nearby. It is 16 turns of research for Iron Working or 20 for Horseback Riding. I go for Horses as they are nearby and I think they will be better for some mobile defense.

2120 Dangit! Roman warrior pillaged my road...I totally forgot about that. Well from now on I have to kill potential pillagers.

2080 First battle of the game, a crushing defeat as my attacking archer loses to the warrior (3.0 vs 3.0 odds). how sad...

1960 Horses are connected.

1840 Rome wants peace. Also, the first Chariot is built.

1800 Finally start on a settler.

1760 My Chariot plunders the Roman farm. This is great, I should send Chariots out to plunder everone's land. Kill there production and growth while gaining gold at the same time!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_06.jpg

1760 second chariot pops a hut and gets a map.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_07.jpg

1600 Settler is built. I have plotted this location because I need that Bronze. I send a chariot to annoy the Inca.

1520 Orleans is founded.

1480 Horseback Riding (finally). Iron Working due in 13.

1320 Roman lands have been totally pillage of improvements. Inca is next.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_09.jpg

1160 Caesar brings out the big guns. Four archers headed my way.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_10.jpg

IT The AI does something beyond retarded. It loses an archer to my chariot, then kill my archer. Now they don't attack me with their 2 healthy archers, which they could've killed my chariot and my worker...now they are screwed.

1040 My archer at Orleans heroically defends against 2 archers. Rome asks for peace again.

1000 Iron Working discovered - no Iron in sight.

875 The day of Reckoning has come for Rome. I have 2 Horse archers, 3 chariots, and an archer to their 3 archers. I ended up losing 2 chariots, but the city is ours. (The horse archer is having a little stretch...he's sleepy  ).
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_12.jpg

750 I had to lower my science to 80%. I have 3 horse archers and 2 chariots vs Antium's 2 archers on a hill. The archer's defensive value is 7.3. I'll again use the chariots like catapults to soften the defenders and finish up with horse archers. I lost a chariot while the other withdrew, but Antium was easily captured.

350 Chariot finally reaches Egypt for a pillaging mission.

200 Tiwanaku is razed, but at the cost of 2 Horse Archers.

25 Complete the Oracle for a free tech.

25 Cuzco is surrounded and easily captured. The Inca have build Stonehenge for us which is great because Hinduism hasn't spread to one freakin' city. :( Now all my towns will get border expansion.

Inca have only one city now.

1AD-900AD

150 Ollantaytambo is razed.

170 Machu Picchu is captured. The Inca are gone.

300 Now that Machu Picchu is out of resistence, I have to lower my science from 80-60%.

400 This city gets demolished.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_20.jpg

600 Great Lighthouse...woot.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_21.jpg

640 The assault on Beshbalik.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_22.jpg

760 heck yes I would. :p Police state here we come.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_23.jpg

780 Last stand for the Mongols.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_24.jpg

800 Moses is born in Paris...he is old already though. He rushes the special Hindu building.

900 okay, I'm quitting here. It's just me vs. Hapsheput on Warlord and I have the upper hand easily. I have streams of catapults and Elephants ready to crush. Good little experiment, I guess.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/MP_AWW_25.jpg

The odd thing is that the AI's haven't done much to attack me. Warlord thing I think. They've just been sitting in their cities for the most part. I think the AI's like to feel safe and have many defenders in their cities before trying to attack.

I had a chariot that could run wild through the AI's lands, pillaging at will. He was finally killed by a swordsman when I got near their Iron (which was guarded by an archer). One more turn and I would have killed the archer (hopefully) and pillaged the Iron.

Oh yeah, I founded Hinduism at the start of the game and it didn't spread to 1 city!! What is up with this? Does being at war cause religion to not spread? It should've gone to all of them by 900 AD.

Don't you need Open Borders for religion to spread naturally? Or is it a trade route?

Anyway, with always war I don't suppose you'd get either.
