View Full Version : Beaten by one inch
Taronas Nov 19, 2005, 05:24 AM I can't believe it!
After several starts finally a game on Noble, Huge Map that went well. Worked on my culture, research and income while some other Civs went ahead epanding on the globe. Slowly working my way up in the score list, managed to keep in range in the power aspect, fought only some small short fights to conquer some neighbour cities. Finally I'm the lead Civ. Modern Age starts already at 1810 - wow.
Then I get news that somebody is building a Space Station Part - ups, better hurry that research a little!
Now, 1998: I'm the most advanced civ, my score is about 900 better than the second. I am one turn from finishing the last Station Part. And guess what? Saladin, she second place civ, wins Space Race just this one turn before me!
Muuuuaaaaahhhhh
Lithgon Nov 19, 2005, 07:21 AM Now you know how the Russians felt when America beat them in the space race. :p
Taronas Nov 19, 2005, 07:30 AM Mh, I always thought, the Russians beat the Americans?
First Sattelite, First Cosmo-/Astronaut - ok, the Amis where first on Moon but who cares ;)

Yeah I agree... the americans won the race to the moonl but the spacerace was won by the russians :crazyeye:
But... no earth civ colonised another planet/moon yet...so no real-world spacerace victory yet :p
Royal Nov 19, 2005, 12:44 PM I had a bad experience like that too...
me (mongols-Kublai) and Germans (bismark) left at war. Its a large map, and we are both so close to domination that whoever loses the first city looses. Guess who lost
Man by one turn! Thats not cool :(
Endureth Nov 19, 2005, 12:49 PM It's debatable that anyone's actually ever been to the moon.

Yea, and they grow Aliens in boxes in Area 51 ;)
Ryozo Nov 19, 2005, 05:53 PM The truth is out there! :borg: *X-Files Music Begins*
Pbhead Nov 24, 2005, 07:37 PM Think of it this way... if we didn't go to the moon we wouldn't have tv dinners that we can eat while civIVing!(or was it velcro?)
Finite Monkey Dec 02, 2005, 12:34 PM I was beaten by an inch just last night myself, it hurts bad. Fun though. The nailbiter in the end is always a blast.

Wait you believe there's a moon, ha the simple minded foolishness, people believing in a MOON.
Xia Dec 21, 2005, 09:32 PM Like the time I was gonna win a cultural victory in one turn but Saladin won diplomatically :(

Except the Russians weren't the most advanced in the world.
Traitorfish Dec 22, 2005, 12:18 PM Except the Russians weren't the most advanced in the world.
In terms of rocketry and space travel, it's quite arguable that they were. In fact, the was only really more advanced in terms of everyday stuff like TVs and refrigerators.
potatokiosk Dec 22, 2005, 12:55 PM Would you rather live in a country that has cool rockets and other space technologies or in one where you can buy a decent refridgerator?
Plus, the Soviet Union had to run itself into collapse to get the technologies it had. The US is still here.
Although I suppose all that territory would have put them 900 points ahead if they were in a civ game.

you idiot, thats not why they collapsed, they fell apart because of Gorbachev's "Reforms," that was what destroyed the economy and political structure.
potatokiosk Dec 22, 2005, 04:52 PM It was already having problems. Gorbachev merely pushed it off the edge.

none the less, it wouldn't have collapsed if he hadn't pushed it that extra mile
